Nightly News for October 31st

I have been struggling to have focused time to complete evaluations and Title 1 compliance work. I worked offsite today with the intention of coming in around 1:30, but was on a very productive roll and opted to continue my work. Thank you team for holding things down in my absence. The good news is I a now up to date on evaluations. Title 1 work has started and I will hopefully continue to make a dent in it this evening. I will be in tomorrow! Ahhh the day after Halloween. Always a fun one at school. I will send out a Remind message tonight to ask parents to not send students with candy to school. I will also remind them about our non-sharing policy. Fortunately, or unfortunately, the rain may deter a lot of those huge candy hauls. Pack your patience in your lunch because I am sure you will need it.  Just a reminder that students should take their coats and outside garb with them to recess. We will make every effort to get them outside. I know today was nasty, but we will lo...

This month always flies by and the much anticipated and needed Thanksgiving break is suddenly here. This past week seemed to be a little calmer (in my opinion). I know many of you are trying to focus on the positives and it does make a difference. I also see interventions working for several students. We are making growth, inch by inch.  Theresa is out all week. Emily, Mike Benson and Elin Wickstrom will be out on Wednesday and Thursday as they are attending a Middle School Conference.  W...

Nightly News for October 27th

For all staff on recess duty please remember we have fanny packs with safety items for recess. Kelly has these available for pickup in the health room. If you are attending a field trip you are encouraged to take one along. Please check one out in the health room.  We have face shields for anyone interested in picking one up  in the health room. This can be attached to your lanyard and used in the event you have to perform CPR.  The Safety Team met this morning and we decided to make our fire drill for the month of November an unannounced one. Just wanted to give everyone an early heads up. Also, we will be doing our quarterly safety walk through next Friday. If you have any facility safety issues you would like us to take a look at please email me or Shannon so we can add it to our list.  If parents or students ask about costumes we are not putting out any formal messaging in regards to this. My opinion is if we say don't wear them we will have parents/kids in an up...

Nightly News for October 26th

THANK you to those who showed up today for the first aid and CPR training. We had at least 13 people there. It is good to know we have so many trained staff available in the event of a medical emergency. Some of you may have met Okechuwu Nwerem today, our new Restorative Justice Coordinator. He officially starts on Monday, but came by for a bit this afternoon to tour the building and look at his space. His office will be located in room 185D (the "kiln room").

Nightly News for October 25th

In the last week or so we have had several situations come up around the use of racial language. This is in our K-5 grades as well as middle school. We will be addressing this with some visits to classrooms, lessons, etc. At this time we have not been able to solidify an Equity Team. This is the kind of work this group can support. If anyone is interested in helping with this imperative work please let me know. The winners of the hottest room competition are: Marie Dunn, Morgan Novick and the fantastic EA Moira Koskey. I jest at the "competition" around this. Please know I will be sending these photos on to the district office. I will be sure to get the prizes out as soon as possible. This Friday, all K-5 science kits need to be ready for pick up. Please review this communication for pick up details. This year, K-5 educators are returning to the practice of using the Quarter 1 report card, rather than the conference form we have used for several years. Please read this m...

Monday the 24th Tuesday the 25th Staff Meeting in Cadres Wednesday the 26th ILCT @ 3:30 First Aid (For those who signed up) @ 3:34 Thursday the 27th Safety Team Meeting @ 8:00 Friday the 28th Lunch Service- Jarvis, Huff , Kempster/Jarvis The weather has definitely changed and we are headed into that time of year where we need to determine if it is an inside or outside day. Our goal will be to get students outside as much as possible. We saw this week when students are not able to get outside and move it makes for a long day. Please encourage students to bring their coats with them to lunch. We will make decisions on indoor/outdoor recess in real time. We may have some groups that absolutely can not go outside, and others who will endure some light mists and sprinkles  Staff meeting is not building centered this week. Please ensure you know which cadre group you are joining.  Thank you to everyone who turned your goals in. We will be reaching out to anyone who has not yet submi...

Kenneth & Brenda need to do a quick device check-in with all staff. Please take 60 seconds to complete this Google Form regarding your district-assigned Chromebook or Pixelbook. THANKS! Nightly News for 10/19/22

I put this out in the Weekly Forecast, but did not remember to post it in last night's news. I was out this afternoon to do Learning Walks at Vernon K-8. I will be out tomorrow for Leadership, but will return Friday.  Remember tomorrow is our Earthquake Drill. This drill will take place at 2:00. Please review these instructions with your students tomorrow prior to the drill. Middle School teachers if you can do this in Advisory that would be fantastic.  During an earthquake, students and staff will: Drop, Cover, and Hold  on until the shaking stops. (This will be done over the VOIP/Phone system) Once the shaking has stopped, teachers will check for injured students in their classroom. Staff will evacuate everyone to the athletic field, playground, or other secured open area on campus. Evacuation is necessary following an earthquake because of possible damage to buildings and aftershocks. Each teacher has a designated area on the field for their students, and all st...

I know you are all working very hard for our students Please take a few minutes to find the positive. Drop a positive note, email, or text to your co-workers. We have to support each other when things are the hardest.  I know the air quality indoor recess caught me off guard. It was one of those things I did not think about when I got here this morning at 7:30. It looks as if we may be in the same situation tomorrow.  I will update people as soon as we know.  Here is an updated link to our indoor recess schedule. Teachers who have kids in their classrooms at recess please touch base with the person in your room for recess to provide them with what kids can and can not do during this time.  https://docs.google.com/document/d/18TP_kBTQnxg4fegstvmcKfAaIG2CRDYRBOlL8pAfcqc/edit?usp=sharing I want to apologize for a mistake I made. We had a rainy day recess schedule that went out a few weeks ago when we had potential rain. I ran it by some people, and alas we failed to cat...

Then they go to the  ACADEMICS  tab on our webpage.   Then they choose the  Talented and Gifted  link.  They are taken directly to the page with the link to the form.

We will have a few PFSP staff out tomorrow for a training in the morning. They will be out until at least 12:30. Shannon will be out tomorrow and possibly Monday. Take some time tomorrow to swing by the back area outside of Theresa's office and pick up items that have been unearthed by volunteers from Saint Mary's today. Nightly News for October 11th

I want to address some things that came up today and let you know I understand when you call out for support and it is not available. We are tracking who is responding to calls in the office to ensure we are providing the best support possible. Please understand at times the office and support staff have to determine where resources are dispatched. Today starting around 2:50 we had five situations that required immediate response. Every possible person was online trying to triage situations. I know several people stepped in and supported with end of day release, traffic, etc. so these situations could be prioritized. Unfortunately, we don't dictate when these situations occur...I really wish we could space them out. Thank you to those who stepped up to support and thank you to those of you who had to take care of things on your own.  Starting tomorrow, after staff arrival, we will be shutting the blue doors that go out to the playground until they are fixed. Unfortunately, t...

Nightly News for October 5th

Tomorrow is Jersey Day.... Remember we will be holding a fire drill around 2:50ish tomorrow afternoon. Please be sure to review our exit points and ensure you are aware of where your orange bucket and emergency placard (the red and green notification deal....sorry forgetting the proper name) are. We will work to get people back into the building ASAP and follow our normal release schedule.  Homeroom teachers, please send the Covid spit test tomorrow at 10 am to the lobby. Please be sure to double, and triple check doors when you are leaving the building to go outside. We have a few that are sticky and as a result do not latch correctly. Case in point is the doors leading out to the small playground. We have had it looked at and it is finicky especially when it is warmer outside.  K-5 classroom teachers several of you had parents sign up for conferences and Open House and are continuing to work on scheduling. Please be sure to update the online conference form at your earl...

Nightly News for October 4th

Today Theresa sent out invitations to OPTIONAL, PAID PD for Dreambox, Lexia Core5 (elem), and Lexia PowerUp (MS). These will be repeated at a later date but, are strong supports for our students needing help in reading and math. All middle school students should be doing these during Flex and all elementary 1-5 students should be doing these during WIN unless in another group.  Teachers, please be aware when scheduling guest speakers and other enrichment opportunities to avoid using WIN time as much as reasonably possible. This intervention time is very important to our students growth and we want to ensure it is being utilized as such.  Thank you to those of you who shared your sub binder with us today. If you were not able to do this today, please be sure to talk to Emily, Kara, Theresa or me in the next week or.  I saw some great ideas. I loved the list of student names spelled phonetically as well as pictures that showed subs where items are located. One person ...

Nightly News for October 3rd

Please be sure to bring your sub folders/plans to our staff meeting tomorrow, along with your devices. PAT will have the first 15 minutes. We will be in the library. We have scheduled a fire drill for this Thursday at 2:50ish. We know this is at the end of the day. Our hope is to get it done quickly so kids can get back into the building and get ready to dismiss....and it won't interrupt learning earlier in the day.  Here is a link to our TAG Plan. It was put together back in 2019. Some updating has taken place. We will be doing some more work around TAG in the coming month or so.  https://docs.google.com/document/d/12IDtIknmFpiDHeuMfcPSS5gAzJ-vR1ERvTQ2LBAfaAM/edit?usp=sharing

I was listening to a podcast yesterday on the concept of time and a study showed when people went into the weekend and treated it like a vacation they were much more satisfied and rested on Mondays. Too bad my weekends generally consist of catching up on stuff around the house!   Thank you for doing an outstanding job with students Friday in our Lockdown Drill. We had a few spots for improvement, but overall it was the well done...
