Nightly News for 10/19/22

  • I put this out in the Weekly Forecast, but did not remember to post it in last night's news. I was out this afternoon to do Learning Walks at Vernon K-8. I will be out tomorrow for Leadership, but will return Friday.
  • Remember tomorrow is our Earthquake Drill. This drill will take place at 2:00. Please review these instructions with your students tomorrow prior to the drill. Middle School teachers if you can do this in Advisory that would be fantastic.

During an earthquake, students and staff will:

    • Drop, Cover, and Hold on until the shaking stops. (This will be done over the VOIP/Phone system)
    • Once the shaking has stopped, teachers will check for injured students in their classroom.
    • Staff will evacuate everyone to the athletic field, playground, or other secured open area on campus. Evacuation is necessary following an earthquake because of possible damage to buildings and aftershocks.
    • Each teacher has a designated area on the field for their students, and all students are accounted for. (These are the same locations as for fire drills)
    • Wait until all clear to return to the building.

  • K-5 Teachers - Next week Theresa is meeting with teachers 1:1, rather than in grade teams for PLCs, to discuss interventions. Please use the form below to let me know when you'd like to meet. I'll send an invite. If I don't get a reply by Monday I'll send you an invite for a meeting time. These will be scheduled for 30 minutes.

  • We are looking for 4 coaches/assent coaches to coach 1 girls team and 1 boys team. We will focus on 5th-grade students and open them up if we have more spots for 4th graders.

The league requires at least 1 practice a week for 55 mins. Hopefully, we can start practices in November, but we definitely will start in Dec if that is not possible. In addition, coaches have 1 mandatory Saturday training to attend.

Seven games will be played on Saturdays, January 14-February 25, 2023

If you or anyone you know is interested please let Coach Carp or Danelle know so we can give you more information.
  • Conni Brenner is looking for some additional opportunities for our Leadership students. "If you have any needs during 6th period 2:30-3:05ish, I have some Leadership kiddos who could help i.e. grading papers, reading one on one or two to students, doing flash cards with students, etc.  If you have kiddos who could use the extra help, we could set something up on a daily or weekly basis .  Let me know if you have any questions or definitely could use a kiddo or two." If you have needs please reach out to cbrenner@pps.net.
