Nightly News for October 4th
- Today Theresa sent out invitations to OPTIONAL, PAID PD for Dreambox, Lexia Core5 (elem), and Lexia PowerUp (MS). These will be repeated at a later date but, are strong supports for our students needing help in reading and math. All middle school students should be doing these during Flex and all elementary 1-5 students should be doing these during WIN unless in another group.
- Teachers, please be aware when scheduling guest speakers and other enrichment opportunities to avoid using WIN time as much as reasonably possible. This intervention time is very important to our students growth and we want to ensure it is being utilized as such.
- Thank you to those of you who shared your sub binder with us today. If you were not able to do this today, please be sure to talk to Emily, Kara, Theresa or me in the next week or. I saw some great ideas. I loved the list of student names spelled phonetically as well as pictures that showed subs where items are located. One person had a great list of their students who needed extra supports and who to call if they were struggling. They included things that don't work. Some general feedback as I was going through folders was to have a list of people you would contact for support. See below:
Having issues with technology? Call Kenneth @ XXXXX or talk to my teaching partner, Barbie in room 599.
Students need to take a break or refocus? Call Kara @ FFFFFFF
Finally, along the same lines if you are listing your schedule and included things such as Lexia/Dreambox etc. You may want to have a one pager that tells them how to log in, what they are etc. Some of our subs will come in with a lot of knowledge around these things and others will have no knowledge. If your plans simply say "Lexia Time" this may not set them up for success.
Believe me I have seen the post that says, "Teaching is the one job where taking a day off off requires more work than being there."
- K-5 classroom teachers please be sure to get my your feedback around SE Learning and needs there. We do want to begin to find some ways to support you.
