Nightly News for March 23rd

Image
A big Bravo to Coach Carpenter and Ms. Moore who headed up Multicultural Night this year. They had many student helpers (see one of my pictures to prove it). I also want to thank the staff who signed up for this night event. I know this is a long week and we are all chomping at the bit to get to our break...thank you.  Tomorrow's K-5 assembly will run from 1:45-2:15. Middle school is 11:23-12:08. They will attend with their 3rd period teacher. If your class is opting not to attend the assembly please let me know. I will send out a specific time for classrooms to head to the auditorium  and which door you should enter by tomorrow. Again, if you are NOT planning on attending let me know by 9:30 tomorrow morning so we can adjust this as needed. For those attending please be review the following expectations with your class prior to coming to the assembly. I am putting this in more detail here, but you can also review the   Matrix ) Enter quietly with hands to ourselves ...

Nightly News for March 22nd

Several staff members reported the doors propped open to the outside over the last few days. Please remember we absolutely cannot have doors propped open for any reason. The only way this would be acceptable is if an adult is actively stationed at the door. This is a huge safety issue that puts everyone in danger. Today for example, we had someone walk through campus during lunches that appeared to be under the influence and was not listening to adults trying to get them off campus. Fortunately, this was quickly reported and he was followed by several staff members who were in communication by radio. Had doors been open he could have easily slipped into the building. PLEASE DO NOT PROP DOORS even for a minute. If you see a door propped open please shut it. Any doors not functioning correctly should be reported. Kara is holding CHAMPS support/discussion and collaboration time tomorrow @ 8:00 in her room. Anyone is welcome to join.   ELPA testing is winding down and teachers wi...

Nightly News for March 21st

Thank you for making our lock down drill quick and effective. There are a few classrooms we will visit tomorrow (hopefully) to revisit expectations. Additionally, we saw a few problem areas that will need to be addressed, but overall things went smoothly. A few reminders for the good of the order.  All adults need to participate. If you are not directly responsible for students at the time of a drill (or in the case of a real event) you should have lights out, the door locked and remain quiet in an inconspicuous place.  Classrooms should remain hidden within the room and not on the carpet in a circle until after the second visit when someone comes to unlock the door.  After any drill we should be turning in an attendance sheet. In the event of a real emergency, one will be needed to determine who was not actually in the building that day. Today we asked for attendance sheets to be sent to the office after the drill. This was a good opportunity to remind everyone of the ne...

BIG KUDOS to Donna Morden for applying for a Blazer grant. Her application was picked from many and she was able to pick up her check last night at the Blazer game. This is the second time she has applied and been chosen. I LOVE THIS.  A reminder that tomorrow we will be doing a Lock Down Drill. Please be sure to go over expectations with your Homeroom classes in the morning. K-5 this would be a good topic for your Morning Circles.  It's that time of year again to look for running buddies for the girls participating in Girls on the Run. If you are interested in supporting this program and getting some runs in please let Danelle know. https://www.pinwheel.us/ register/index/ gotrgosp23runningbuddy?sid= 6537eeaf86ee431abbcaf3a5139b63 35&fh=0 Next month our 3-8 classes will start OSAS testing. This is a secure process. You may need to enter a room where testing is happening or come in contact with printed test materials. Before doing either of these you will need to...

Nightly News for March 16th

I apologize for getting this out so late. It was a long day at Leadership and I started trying to wrap up hiring and then took an hour or so off to spend some time with my family. I am just now sitting down again. The weekend is in sight!   Saint Patrick's Day is tomorrow. Please keep yours ears and eyes on kids who may potentially be pinching. I know this can led to bigger things. When in doubt a green dot on your hand works wonders! Garden Clean Up is taking place tomorrow from 10-12. I am hoping to enjoy some time outside. This weather is making me smile!

Nightly News for March 15th

I left the building at 7:30 and forgot to send this out before I left. I just sat down and remembered. It has been a week! I will be out at Leadership tomorrow. We have four interviews scheduled virtually for tomorrow. Whew. Thank you for your patience this week.  We have had several support staff out this week. I know it absolutely makes me appreciate their work even more. Please know the office is doing their best to dispatch support but with interviews going on, people out, and several Tier 2/3 students needing support everyone is stretched thin.  Please refer to the attachment in the original email on ants. This has been brought up by PAT. Tino wanted us to share this out. Again, if you have an ant issue please email Tino and CC Shannon.

Nightly News for March 14th

Day two of interviews is over. One, technically 1.5 more to go. Again, thank you for your patience. I heard K-5 was tough today.  I had some family needs to attend to come up late this afternoon and will likely be out until midday tomorrow. I will know more in the morning.  We are seeing an uptick in middle schoolers out and about in places they should not be, and in some cases with questionable permission (think triangulation). As we head into spring this is something we need to get a handle on quickly. We will be going over hall passes for lunch with middle school students tomorrow. If you work with middle school students, or have a need to see them at lunch time please review these slides:  MiddleSchoolPasses Saturday our Garden team will be holding a clean up. My apologies for not getting this into the Weekly Forecast. This will run from 10-12 in our school garden. Join if you can!

Nightly News for March 13th

Payroll has to be turned in on Wednesday the 15th. Please be sure to turn in ALL things pertaining to absences, extended hours, etc to Shannon by the end of the day tomorrow.  Thank you for your patience as we interviewed today. As I mentioned in the Weekly Forecast, we have various people in interviews based on the position. There are 34 interviews total with most of them scheduled for today through Wednesday.  A contractor site walk through will be taking place tomorrow afternoon starting at 4:00. Presence shouldn't be too impactful to staff. However, they will likely be walking through a few of the existing classrooms to provide a representative sample for upgrades.  Kara is holding CHAMPS meetings on Tuesday and Thursdays from 8:00-8:30 AM. Both days will be the same meeting, so you do not need to attend both. This is to provide support, PD, and feedback.  From Kim Jarvis our TAG Coordinator: Do we have any students that we should be looking a...

Weekly Forecast for March 13th-17th

ELPA Testing All Week Monday the 13th Musical Parent Meeting @ 6:00 Tuesday the 14th MS Multicultural Night Planning Meeting @ 8:00  Staff Meeting- Cadres Wednesday the 15th Garden Lessons Thursday the 16th Leah out @ Leadership Friday the 17th Middle School Clubs Lunch Service - Jarvis, Flanagan, Kempster I am looking forward to being back in the building Monday. It had been awhile since I have been at a conference during the  year (may actually be a first). I know we have a great team that made this possible. Unfortunately, the conference wasn't spectacular, but I did glean a few nuggets. This next two weeks will surely be fast and furious and today's time change will punctuate the grogginess for the next few days. Hold on, Spring Break is on the horizon.  This week internal interviews are taking place. Between Harrison Park and Clark there are 17 positions we are interviewing for. Some positions had no applicants, others had 9+. That being said Monday through Wednesday...

Nightly News for March 9th

K, 1st, 3rd Eye Hearing Screening in the conference room tomorrow. Name tags and schedules were put in mailboxes yesterday. Please put them on your students before going down to the screening.    Please see the attached flyer (in the original email) for a free PD event around taking care of ourselves as stewards of students with high rates of trauma. This event is after school hours and is online.  Starting next week Kara will be providing a review of CHAMPS strategies on Tuesday and Thursday mornings 8:00-8:30 in her office.  It is the same information both days so teachers can pick which day works better for them.   Reminder to elementary teachers we have seen some improvement with students having passes.  Please be sure that students do have a pass when leaving your class.  If they do not have a pass and we see them in the hall or show up to a destination without a pass, we will send them back.  Thank you!! Plann...

Nightly News for March 8th

Great work on the fire drill. We got out and back in quickly and students were doing a great job listening to directions outside. Jill commented that it was one of the smoothest she has ever seen. NICE work.  Thank you Kim Jarvis for asking about funds for Multicultural Night. In year's past we have provided Homeroom/CORE  teachers with funds for projects. We will provide each grade level with $125 for projects. Grade level teams can decide to pool the money or to split it up evenly between teachers. DLI classes will count as one (not two separate classes for AM/PM). You are welcome to purchase items on your own for this purpose. Please remember if you do so we will only reimburse up to the specified amount and receipts have to be turned in. You can also send links to Shannon to purchase. She will not place any orders for this event after March 17th. Anything purchased needs to be consumable materials used for projects (i.e. poster board, paint).  The organizers of 82nd A...

If you have an issue with ants in your classroom please email Tino and CC Shannon.  A reminder that I am leaving around noon tomorrow and will be out for the rest of the week. I will be available by text or email (except when I am driving) We are going to make a consorted effort to check hall passes this week. Please ensure you are writing/sending students with hall passes at all times.  We will hold a fire drill tomorrow at 9:15. Please be sure to look at your exit maps for your alternative routes in the event your regular exit is blocked.  Educator Reminder of Internal Round - On Monday, March 6, eligible educators received an email reminding them of the internal round which included instructions for applying. Nightly News for Monday the 6th

Classified/PFSP staff there will be sandwiches, chips and some other treats in the staff room starting at 11:00 tomorrow. Thank you for your work! Jill,  Emily and Leah A reminder that students should be allowed to call parents if the request is made. It is strongly suggested this call is facilitated by an adult if possible. For example, a student who has had their feelings hurt generally only tell parents their side of the story, and leave out information that holds them culpable. I know as classroom teachers you may not have the capacity to do this during the course of your day. If there is a need for support please send the student to the office with a note saying they would like to call home with adult support . If you happen to have any details around it a call ahead would be great. This helps us support you.  Tomorrow's staff meeting begins @ 3:30 with PAT announcements. We will be splitting into two groups shortly after.  Jill will be in at 10:00 Remember tryouts b...
