A huge shout out to all of those who helped make the middle school dance/activity event happen Friday after school. It was great to see all the smiles and students having fun with their teachers and each other. I enjoyed listening to staff karaoke and I promise next time I will make it through the entire song ( Note to self: we need a better monitor and louder speakers).
I would also like to thank the 3rd grade team for putting together an awards assembly to recognize their students and the growth they have made. Kids were excited and proud of their accomplishments.
Another thank you to Chukwu for helping to put together our Black History Month assembly. This event was largely led by students and gave them an opportunity to celebrate.
Basketball teams had their last games on Saturday. 4th grade was the only one with a loss and victories were had by the other teams. It has been fantastic to see how appreciative students and families were for this opportunity. Thank you Danelle, Herk, and Jessica for making this a reality. I know many staff made it to games as well. This means so much to the kids. We will plan a end of season celebration soon.
This week we honor our Classified employees. Our custodians, Nutrition Services, EAs, paras, office staff ensure that things run smoothly each and every day. They are grossly underpaid for the work they do and deserve so much more than they are given. I find them to be flexible and willing to do anything asked of them to help others. Please be sure to share your appreciation for them not only this week, but every day. Please feel free to send me some individual shout outs I can share throughout the week in the Nightly News.
Finally, it is also School Social Worker week. We are appreciative of Lindsay Alex and the work she does for our students and families. From connecting families to resources to lunch duty she does it all. Thank you Lindsay!
- The office furniture FINALLY arrived on Friday. I may sneak in later today to check it out. I know Naima, Kelly and Shannon will appreciate having actual desks instead of folding tables.
- In case you are not aware the first round of postings are up. Those who have been unassigned, or those interested in exploring options, please check with your PAT reps for additional information on this process. You can absolutely ask Jill, Emily and I as well. We will be setting up interviews for both Clark and Harrison Park to take place next week. We do have A LOT of hiring to do between the two buildings.
- ELPA testing is taking place. Please be patient as our ELD team may need kids at different times than normal. Also, know this is stressful for some kids, especially our upper elementary and middle school students. Students who are testing may need some extra encouragement. If you see a testing sign on a door help students to pass quietly. Also, you can only enter a testing space if you have completed the test administrator training OR given Theresa a non-test administrator form.
- Cami, Joel and Dani are collaborating to put together the first (to my knowledge) Harrison Park Musical. They have chosen Madagascar. Tryouts begin this Wednesday and students in grades four and up are encouraged to take part. These slides will be shared during Middle School Advisory. Teachers in 4th and 5th grade please feel free to share with your classes. I am assuming Joel will be sharing as well. This is super exciting! https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1YCvR97RrO9SfxEaanFeE1_vH7glDxTr_jUsY2-Jh4aU/edit#slide=id.p
- I will be leaving around 12:00-1:00 on Wednesday for the Multilingual and English Learner Conference in Eugene. I will be at the conference on Thursday and Friday. Jill and Emily will both be in the building. I will be available by email/text.
- We will be holding our Middle School Open House on Tuesday from 6:00-7:30. This event is largely focused around students/families joining us next year, but anyone is welcome to attend.
- Tuesday's staff meeting will begin at 3:30 w/ PAT time. We will be dividing into MS/K-5. MS will focus on ways to support newcomers and K-5 will be working on Tier I Climate. Both groups will have time to discuss Multicultural Night.
- All staff, with a few exceptions, need to be trained for OSAS. We need to have EVERYONE trained in the event an emergency arises or simply someone needs coverage for a minute or two so they can go to the restroom. We have provided and/or will be providing time to ensure you can accomplish this during your working hours. PFSP staff I will reach out to you to discuss this a bit more.
- Below are the Pepper courses that need to be completed:
Minimum Time Requirements for Pepper Courses (now available in Pepper):
PA1024 (Core - Everyone): 30 min
PA1026 (ELA/Math - Everyone): 16 min
PA1027 (Sci - 5th grade): 5 min
