Nightly News for Wednesday, May 31

I hope the day wasn't too nutty. I hate being out of the building especially at this time of year. Tara and I are back tomorrow. Emily will be out at the training tomorrow.  Boxes arrived. Please be sure to prioritize packing district owned materials first (that you will not need). Below are some moving tips.  The building will be open for packing at 10:30 on Saturday . I know some of you are early risers and would like to arrive earlier, but alas I will be here potentially until after 9:00 that evening and will need some extra time at home in the morning.  Flyers were placed in your boxes this afternoon for the yearbook. Please send these home with students tomorrow.  * Chromebook Collection Plan Reminder Monday June 5 - Grades 6-8 - Carts will be reissued to ELA, ELD, and Math Wed June 7 & Thurs June 8 - Grades 3-5 - Classes will be scheduled for collection Thursday June 8 - Grades K-2 - Bring carts to the tech room before school One of our fantastic parents...

Tuesday the 30th

Theresa is out for the remainder of the week at a training/in-service for Coaches and Admin. She has a substitute.  Testing will continue. She sent out an email to those teachers who are directly impacted. Please be sure to read the details of this.  Tara and I will both be out tomorrow for the above training. We will both be back on Thursday. Emily will be admin in charge tomorrow. Please be aware that response to situations may be limited. Lean on your classroom management plans and be sure to share anything that needs to be addressed by admin in an email, text, etc. We will do our best to get to it as soon as we can, but priority will be given to safety issues tomorrow. Emily will be out at the training Thursday. We will all be back Friday (we did not arrange this timing...I promise). I am trying to FINALIZE move/packing information with the OSM (Office of School Modernization). I believe all those staying at HP now have their actual locations. Some rooms have shifted. I ha...

The next few weeks will be extraordinarily busy around my home as we are prepping for my daughter's graduation party and trying to focus on her and this event. We have come a long way in the last five years and I am thankful to be near the finish. Add school events and the impending shifts and it will be hectic. As I say, this too shall pass. ...

Nightly News for 25th

Last night at 1:30 we have footage of someone entering the building through the kitchen doors. We have confirmation that they did not have a key, but used some kind of tool to enter. They were able to get into two spaces that we know of and a few things were missing, etc. We do not know whether or not these rooms were locked. Please be vigilant about checking to make sure doors are locked and latched (we have some that are sticky) and windows are shut and locked as well. Please let me know if you have anything amiss.  Katie Newton found the flamingo today. The last clue will be given out tomorrow. Today's location was on top of the lockers near the gym...specifically A-1. We will begin reaching out to families of students who were identified by the district as qualifying for Summer Acceleration (Summer School). The district identified students using various data points. The district then contacted parents of qualifying students via email. As we know, many of our parents do not util...

Nightly News for May 24th

The Madagascar performers are in need of  clothing racks and hangers for costumes  for the duration of the show. If anyone has one "hanging" around please let Joel or Cami know.  June has been working hard to find the flamingo. She located it today. June will have lunch delivered to her on Friday. The clue was: This common area has been the site for many nefarious doings over the course of the year as coverage in this area during transitions is limited (this is the area outside of the back SUN area and open space. We train kids not to touch this, but ya know that doesn't mean they listen (fire extinguisher box that was openish) .  ODE released this information around COVID. Just ensuring you are aware. The updates include: Symptom-based exclusion for those with COVID-19.  A five-day period of isolation for those infected with COVID-19 is no longer recommended. Individuals should stay home until fever free for 24 hours and symptoms are improving, avoid ...

Nightly News for May 23rd

Emily will be out all day tomorrow. Ruth and I will be at a meeting until about 11:40 and Tara and Ana will be out at the same meeting in the afternoon.  I am making daily updates to the key date calendar below. Speaking of which we have added two performances for students to see Madagascar on June 2nd.   5th-8th Grade will attend 10:30-11:40 (no Flex that day) and K-4 will attend at 1:30. The performance should wrap up around 2:45.  Clark K-5 Staff- Here is the link to view the Clark Map: https://docs.google.com/ presentation/d/ 1OEt9FGy7fU0kP5fjwTw8KPVNB7auQ eaDdJ0NX_4VeWQ/edit?usp= sharing I am working on some things regarding office spaces and will need to get a few things finalized. The bottom line is there is not enough office space so we are going to have to be creative. Also it is likely that some staff members will have to continue sharing space or will need to share office space at Clark. I have not assigned teachers to classrooms -only grade levels....

Nightly News for May 22nd

Congrats to Laura Jenness the first winner of the Scavenger Hunt. The clue was:  A relic of the past this tiny vestibule may get put to use again soon. Location was the little door that opens into what currently is the Safety Patrol room. At one point is was a ticket booth room.  Tomorrow's clue will come out at some point. I will use the intercom to announce once we have a winner. I will be sending out invites to staff for 8th Grade Promotion that takes place on 13th. Staff should be present from 5:30-7:30. Please note those invited did not attend our second night event of the year, Multicultural Night. In the event this is a mistake please let me know. Per the PAT contract teachers are expected to attend two night events (three are acceptable, but administrators are  encouraged to try to limit it to three). Our first night was Open House and we asked everyone to attend.  Staff  had the option to choose between either Multicultural Night or 8th Grade Promotion....

Nightly News for May 18th

I apologize for how late this is getting out tonight. I got home and fell asleep and am just now waking up. I actually am not feeling great and hope I am not coming down with something. Tara and I will both be back from Leadership tomorrow. I am excited about some of the learning from today.  Reminder - The makeup OSAS test session will be from 9:15-11:20 tomorrow. Students may come at any time in that window.  Please sure to send them with a pass.

Nightly News for Mary 17th

Last night I shared dates of several events that will be coming up. We are making our best effort to communicate as much as possible because we know the end of the year gets hectic. If your class/program is planning an event in the next few weeks I am going to ask that you send a Google calendar invite to me, Tara, Emily and Shannon. This will allow us to support and keep things straight. Additionally, the office often gets calls for information on events and we want to be able to field those calls.  Correction- AVID Awards & Family Night is June 6th, not the 8th.  Tara and I will be at Leadership tomorrow. Emily will be here.    All K-5 Science Kits are DUE BACK THIS FRIDAY, 5/19 Please have materials clean, back in the bin, and ready for pickup in your school’s designated area by the end of the day on  Friday, May 19 .  Kits will be picked up by the bulk truck anytime between 6:30 AM on May 22 and the end of the day on May 26. Even though it is nearin...

Nightly News for May 16th

For those of you who attended today's staff meeting please be sure to sign the thank you card for the PTA located on the counter in the office. It was a unique and fun way to spend some time together. They definitely appreciate your work.  We are getting communications from the district accounting department in regards to classroom accounts and other accounts at Harrison Park. The purpose of classroom accounts is to collect money for specific events/needs and to use them for said reasons. Technically, the money should be spent down to a zero balance yearly and not carried over from year to year. Shannon has emailed all K-5 teachers who have balances. Some charges, such as buses, will be late in coming in, but the hope is we don't carry over balances from year to year. Please ask questions and have a plan to spend your balances.  From the district K-5 Math Team:  Last Tuesday, May 9th, K-5 teachers attended cadres focused on mathematics. We covered the topic of Produc...

Nightly News for Monday the 15th

I hope you all survived the heat today. I know it makes for a long day. Hydrate and do your best to stay cool. Please check out the staff room this next week. It is being stocked by our families to celebrate and honor your work.  Plan on wearing comfortable clothing that you can move around in for tomorrow's staff meeting. We will meet briefly in the library and head down to the gyms.  Some staff expressed wanting to keep Chromebooks/carts in K-5 until the end of the year. Please note the Tech team has A LOT of work to do between the last day of school and Friday the 16th. They also may be looking at a move out of their current location. We can offer K-5 staff the option to keep their carts/Chromebooks until the afternoon of June 8th. We can not extend turn in past this date. Please note that Field Day is the 9th. Our hope is by giving everyone advance notice they can plan activities that do not require the use of technology.

I have been asked to ensure  you are all aware of it's location in the building. If you have concerns over the heat inside...

Nightly News for May 11th

Today we had some facilities/security people in the building taking a look at a few things. Tomorrow the new contracting company will be in the building looking around etc. They should not be in the way, but may pop into spaces for a few minutes. I will do my best to let people know about these types of visits, but don't always know myself.   The building will be open on Saturday from 10:00-2:00 for those of you who would like access to the building. Additionally, Max and community members will be doing some work in the garden on the irrigation system.   The end of this payroll period is May 15th.  Please turn in any hours you may still need to report for this pay period 4/16/23-5/15/23. This includes IEP hours, Extended hours (that you haven't already reported) or any time missed that wasn't put in the sub system.  Emily, Tara and I will be coming around at some point tomorrow afternoon with a treat.

Nightly News for May 9th

I hope all is well. This has been a fantastic PD and I am so excited to get back and share what we are learning.  Tomorrow the 8th graders will be having their field trip to McDaniel.  Our bus pick up time has been changed and we will now be loading the buses at 12:30. Please have students go to their 4th period class, take attendance and then walk with them to the cafeteria. The 2nd and 3rd graders will be eating lunch at the same time and we will need support in getting the 8th graders to their assigned eating areas (designated tables and hallway).  At 12:30 we will take attendance and load the buses, with the hopes of returning close to 6th period.  If students do not have a signed permission slip, they will stay behind and attend their regular classes and lunch time. 6th and 7th Grade All 6th and 7th grade students will go to lunch 1st tomorrow and then go to recess. Please go over this with them and make sure they know.  Headphones We do have some head...

Nightly News for May 8th

I am finally back in my room and checking emails. I hope the day went well. This is a great training and we are learning lots to bring back! Calming Corner materials from the PTA Healthy Minds Grant have been delivered!  Here is a brief slideshow  to help students know the expectations and the tools available to them. Feel free to make a copy and tailor it to your classroom, but generally students should pick an activity to regulate, stay for 5 minutes, then return to class. Please teach students that these materials are for the whole class so they need to remain in the corner for everyone to use, and students should not comment on others who use the calming corner.  These materials can come with us to Clark, so please keep track of the items as much as possible (especially the big ticket items like the water feature, yoga peanut, and weighted blankets). The items can be packed up as you pack up your classroom.  Please email Ana with any questions. Thanks! Cadr...
