Whew. This bout of sickness was unexpected. I started feeling icky on Thursday evening and was down for the count until last night. This morning I feel better, but am still moving slow. I hope we can all be well and make it through the marathon of the last few weeks of school.
Thank you to Danelle and Tara for supporting our kids on Saturday at the Girls on the Run event. I know Danelle has put in several days after school with our team.
- Our final Teacher Appreciation event will be a scavenger hunt. There will be five prizes, one for each day, and clues will be given out each morning (or in the Nightly News). You will be looking for a pink flamingo....the first day's clue will be out tomorrow morning.
- I have ordered more boxes and they may have even arrived on Friday. I will check the status of their arrival tomorrow. Below is a link to moving/packing Q&A. Please note it includes link to labels in the event you need more. We will also make an effort to print more.

As a reminder, packing you are being paid extended hours for should be done outside the contract day. As you pack be sure it is not impeding the learning environment and your area is still safe for students. The building will be open from 9:00-8:00 on Saturday the 3rd. You are welcome to come in that day for purposes of packing. We are asking that you track your hours and turn them in all at once as opposed to turning in one or two hours at a time. Shannon will have a HUGE task ahead to complete all extended hour requests etc. and in order to streamline things this will make things easier.
- Valerie Peacock has been tasked with boxing up our K-5 collection to be moved to Clark. Additionally, she has to contend with curriculum, textbooks, etc. Please be sure you are keeping your eyes out for errant materials that need to be dealt with. We also ask that if you have outdated curriculum that you recycle it and not drop it off in the library for her to take care of. The district has asked we recycle ALL curriculum, textbooks, etc that they are no longer supporting (think Reading Street, History Alive, Bridges). There is a blue recycling bin near the garbage cans for this purpose. These materials should be boxed up prior to going into said container. If at all possible please do not use the district provided moving boxes as they hope to reuse those. I know this may not be possible. You may also box up said materials and label "recycling" and place them outside your classroom door. If you want to keep any of these materials you will need to pack them and hold them in your rooms as you move. Please ask Theresa any questions you may have in regards to curriculum materials.
- Tara is finishing up room assignments at Clark (she may have already done this and reported out). For those of you remaining at Harrison Park some shifting is still occurring. The contractors have been in and are nailing down their plan for the summer. There were some changes in what was shared with me earlier in the spring. They will begin work on our second gym and therefore the current technology storage area (think Kenneth and Brenda's Locker Room) will need to be moved pronto. This punctuates the need for Chromebook turn in as this will be a massive undertaking. Additionally, they are going to tackle the new student services "wing" (admin, counseling, health room) this summer. Some of my original plans for where people will be impacted. I am supposed to have more information this week and will share out with those people impacted. I have asked for more specific details on what "packing up" means for those of you remaining in your current spaces. There will be abatement this summer and you may be asked to pack up more than normal. Again, I will keep you updated.
- We will be pulling kids to complete SBAC testing as needed. Theresa is the point of this work. Thank you for taking this on Theresa. We want to ensure that tests do not expire (we have had some expire alread) and students are still provided with optimum testing environments. Make up testing will take place Monday 10:50-12:55 and Tuesday 1:35-2:45. We will add more days/times as we determine how things are going.
- I will continue to add dates nightly for the remainder of the year. We will be putting out information on potential closure activities for our K-4 students as we prepare for the move. One exciting addition to the calendar is a K-4 Bon Voyage Dance Party that will take place on Friday June 9th. This event is open to K-4 students and their parents (if they opt to attend). Staff is absolutely welcome to attend.
- A district team has largely taken on the task of signing up students who qualify for Summer Acceleration. Our numbers are low for those attending. I attribute this to a few things. First, asking our families to attend an unknown location (Kellogg and Atkinson) can be daunting. Secondly, most of the outreach has been done via email. We will be meeting tomorrow to look at those who qualify and determining if we can assist in getting more students enrolled. I know some parents have reached out to teachers, counselors, the office, etc to see if their child can be enrolled. There is a set criteria and we are not able to serve students who do not meet this.
