Morning Minute for May 31st

The printer from the library is now located in the staff room. This is temporary, but with the library closing we wanted to make sure it was still accessible to some extent. It is my understanding it will copy, but you can not send printing to it.   We have a fire drill at 10:10 tomorrow.  The end of year check out lists will be printed and put into boxes by the end of day tomorrow.  A reminder that 8th graders are participating in visioning work tomorrow. They will be makred out for 7th period in Synergy and will leave 6th period after attendance is taken.

Morning Minute for May 30th

It was exiting to see our Legacy WEB students handing off the torch today to our new "crop" of leaders. These kids have come SO far from where they were last spring when the first play date/training occurred. Thank you Dan, Amanda, Michelle and Ruth for making this happen today.  I will be off site in the morning for some work and an appointment. I should be back by 12:30. Spencer will be out at an AP meeting around 12:30 for the remainder of the day.  Teams please be making sure you are checking things off for the last day of school activities.  If you need specific items please be sure to get these requests in no later than Tuesday the 4th . There are several budget deadlines in the next two weeks and this time of year there is a very heavy workload for everyone, especially Shannon. With only four days after students leave she needs to be laser focused.  I am also tired of kicking her out of the office at 5:45 every night.  Please be sure to provide fee...

Morning Minute for May 29th

It was the Tuesday after Memorial Day and I could certainly feel the energy! I failed to put this in the Morning Minute, but Regina was out in the AM with our Jieshou students. She returned and Spencer left to support the AVID Field Trip. I had an appointment and left at 2:40. There were several other people out that typically support with students as well. Please be sure check the staff absence list daily to ensure you are aware of outages. I know there were a few situations this afternoon that may not have been addressed as a result of people being unavailable. On that note, it is important to continue to hold students accountable for behavior and document with referrals if warranted. I am guessing this week and next will be a little more robust with behaviors of concern.  Dan sent out a list of students to be excused tomorrow for WEB training this morning. Please be aware.  Library packing went quickly. When I left it was almost complete. Please remember we the library is c...

Weekly Forecast for May 27th-31st

Monday the 27th No School Memorial Day Tuesday the 28th Jieshou Visit 7th/8th AVID Bowling Trip 1:00-End of Day Wednesday the 29th WEB Leader Playdate (Current 7th Graders)- PM Thursday the 30th Friday the 31st Fire Drill @ 10:10  I hope you all had a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend. We stayed close to home and continued to chip away at getting things "summer ready". We are now in the homestretch with just three weeks left of the school year. WE CAN DO IT! This week looks light in terms of happenings, but next week...whew.  The Library is officially closed for the remainder of the year. Movers will be in starting tomorrow and Valerie and Naz will be directing. They have been BUSY prepping this. Chukwu and Dr. Dodson will continue to work out of the library this week, but will be moving to temp spaces next week. Chukwu will be using Spencer's office for the remainder of the year. Spencer will be working out of my office (or anywhere else he can find).  PLCs  - This wee...

Morning Minute for May 24th

What a busy day!  From securing donations, organizing schedules and learning opportunities this is a huge undertaking! I appreciate Regina, Kojo, Ms.Bee, Theresa, Dani, Bobbi and Joel for making today's assembly happen. Also, thank you to our Advisory teachers for pushing our students. I cringed when the bell rang and expected kids to jump up...they were enthralled with the performances and were fantastic. We have come a long way! A reminder that Joel is taking our band over to Clark tomorrow. Lists have been shared and students will be marked out. Testing from here on out will be small groups. There will be no testing tomorrow UNLESS they are one of our students who tends to be absent frequently.

Morning Minute for May 23rd

I will take a look to see if I can find an easier to ready schedule, but here is the schedule for tomorrow. We have prepared the auditorium with assigned seats. Please be sure to sit in your assigned area. Seats have been counted out based on the number of students in your class. Please refer questions to Regina.  Advisory Teachers - Look for paper attendance in your mailbox. Return it to the office on your way to the assembly.  Testing - Look for emails from Theresa regarding testing. Thursday will be the last day of major testing. From there we will have some makeup testing as needed. We did have a Team Response today. A student re injured themselves at recess playing basketball. Our team did a great job remaining calm and making decisions in real time. We did not use the VIOP system for this response as the location was easy to isolate. I am very impressed with the work of Kelly, Zach, Dan, Spencer, Herk and Coach Schoene. Well done! The student will be okay.

Morning Minute for May 22nd

Testing tomorrow - Library Period 1 - Send all students with Magenta A next to them Period 2 -  Send all students with Orange B next to them Period 6 -  Send all students with C next to them. Many morning students will have passes for the afternoon as well.  We are seeing A LOT of activity in the halls 3-5 minutes before the bell rings at the end of the day. Please be sure to keep students in class until the bell rings. This is a great time for nefarious activity to occur.    Shannon and I will be offsite tomorrow morning to take care of Title Budget and work. I plan on arriving back before lunches.

Morning Minute for May 21st

Testing shifts. Please note that all 6th graders, who need to finish testing,  will report to the library  during 1st period. They must check in with their 1st period teacher prior to heading to the library.  7th grade, and a few 8th graders will report  2nd period  for testing until they reach their limit or until lunch. Theresa and Naima will work on marking them out for all impacted periods. Please note that after lunch  8th grade and a few other returners will report. Please be on the lookout for updates. We know this impacts instruction, but we want to get things wrapped up as soon as possible. PLEASE send students with Chromebooks if they have them.  We have staff meeting tomorrow in the library at 4:00.  Tomorrow night is SUN OMSI night from 5:30-7:30. We can offer an hour of extended pay to anyone who stays to support.

It was mentioned it was difficult to find information once it was sent out and email is easier to search. I will ask for additional feedback after a bit to see if this works better for people.  On another communication note please b...

Morning Minute for May 17th

The kids were a bit off today. I anticipate tomorrow will either be calm because they are tired and ready for the weekend or nuts because they are tired of testing and have a lot of pent up energy. I will hope for the first. It was by no means terrible, but you could feel the teen angst.  A reminder we will begin collapsing testing rooms. Be sure to check the tabs on testing information. You may need to check this daily to keep yourself abreast of what is going on.   Because it makes so much sense towards the end of the year...we are getting new copiers next week. Our school is one of several that will be receiving new machines. This is supposed to happen on Monday. Just an FYI. Naima will be the point person for copier needs/repairs, etc. please refer issues etc. to her.  See this form to help guide your nominations for HPMS Recognition.  In looking over some feedback I saw someone said we needed more whiteboards. I am not sure if they meant big ones on the wal...

Morning Minute for Thursday May 16th

As a reminder the library will be closed for the remainder of the school year starting May 28th.  I failed to put the band field trip to Clark. It is Friday the 24th in the morning.  We anticipate being tight for supervision tomorrow during lunches. Spencer is at an AP training and Regina is out. Herk is also out the next two days for a district obligation. We will have a substitute for him. Just an FYI. I have cleared my schedule so will be available to support. Dan is also here to support.

Morning Minute for Wednesday May 15th

Classroom spending is now closed. This was communicated out a week or two ago. This would be for items from allotted classroom supplies/materials. Items to support end of year activities are not included, but should be vetted prior to purchase.  Last week Spencer and I met with a representative from University of Oregon's Ballmer Institute (located on the Concordia Campus). There are several district middle schools who are currently working with the institute and practicum students are being "deployed". This may be in our future, not next year,  but for now it was to gain information. One thing that came out of this meeting was an opportunity for professional development.  If you are interested in adding some credits this is a great opporutniy. I am thinking about applying and am have strongly encouraged my husband to do the same (so he can move over to the last column!). Here is the information: The   University of Oregon's Ballmer Institute   offers a th...

Morning Minute for Tuesday 14th

Hopefully testing went well for you today. I checked in with a few people and heard it was smooth....let's hope it remains the same way tomorrow.   Apologies for the confusion today around loaner Chromebooks. Brenda and Kenneth were moved out of their office unbeknownst to us until this morning. She had to scramble to prep for testing support and some mix ups happened. We got is squared away. HOPEFULLY, this mix-up helps to punctuate the need for kids to come with Chromebooks charged and/or working. Brenda and Kenneth did their best to be proactive prior to this with Chromebook checks etc.  Please be sure that doors leading outside are not propped open. We had one propped open today. This is a safety concern on many levels. I will be sharing with Inline as well.  I failed to get this into the Weekly Forecast: If you have 8th graders for periods 5, 6, or 7, please read: About 20 8th graders will be going on a career exploration event with INLINE and Petrerri Arch...

I tried, but didn't have any luck. I am late getting this out as my only wish today was to have my family help with some yard projects. We got an early start and accomplished a lot, but I am just now sitting down to HP work.  Regina will be out this week.  We are OSAS testing this week. Our hope is students take testing seriously and do their best. There has been a lot of training provided, information sent out and preparation done to ensure we have optimum testing conditions and smooth sailing. Questions, concerns, etc. were hopefu...

Morning Minute for May 8th

As you may know we have had HVAC people in this week to take a look at the system. They identified some issues and took care of them. They have also noted the control panels are being put into leave settings. When this happens the system will not restart everyday and run correctly. One of the workers has  changed all the settings back to where they need to be. When the system is fully up and running you can only control the room by 4 degrees. I tried to send out a video a while back, but wasn't able to get it to load. I have asked them to send a detailed go by so we all know how to fully run the system. I will try to share out more ASAP, but for now please do not turn the thermostat to the leave setting.   Chukwu will be supporting a YEP field trip tomorrow. I will be out at Leadership.  Thank you Kelly for the drink bar!!!!! What a treat.  Drink orders for teachers need to be turned in by 12:00 tomorrow. Please place them in Conni's box as Leadership stud...

Morning Minute for May 8th

A reminder that lunch will be ready to roll tomorrow @ 12:40 in the staff room. We will be serving burritos and tacos.  A shift in the schedule. We will serve desserts on Friday and Italian sodas on Thursday.  Please note orders for Italian sodas need to be turned in by Thursday at noon. These can be put in Leah's box. If we do not have an order form one will not be delivered. These were handed out at staff meeting yesterday.

We will be allotting time for the Successful Schools Survey at our staff meeting tomorrow. Please bring your device for this purpose. We hope you enjoy several goodies this week to celebrate you...

Morning Minute for May 3rd

Whew! Multicultural Night was a success. We typically try to do this event in March when the duldrums hit and not a lot is going on, but it wasn't in the cards this year. I want to thank Dan for carrying on and planning the event. He definitely made it happen.   We had a lot of people here! Former students (and families), Clark kids, and community members all showed up to support the event. I did not get to watch a lot of the performances, but can since it was livestreamed and is available to watch at any time. Thank you to Brenda for setting this new fangled technology up. Additional thanks to staff members who came to help supervise and support . Kojo, Bee, Bobbi, Joel, Lisandra, Malia (and anyone else I am missing) who helped rally students together for performances. Naima and Natalia for their help getting families here with food. Thank you to Shannon who put many miles on her car picking items up and dealing with the $$$.  6th Grade Academic Kid Chat tomorrow @ 8:20 ...

Morning Minute for May 2nd

Whew! I was out of the building until 1:30 and then had to leave for our tax appointment at 3:40 (first time we have ever had to file an extension). My family has been struggling with some pretty awful flu/colds the last week and a half so I have been doing my best to soup them up and try to take care of them in the evening. I just sat down and realized I hadn't even started the Morning Minute. I have also been trying to limit my screen time (except for work) as some of our students asked me to join their Screen Time Challenge. So far I am getting blown away!  Tomorrow is Multicultural Night. The point person for this event is Dan Carpenter. If you have questions please send them his way. I have some knowledge, but he has put everything together (thanks in advance). The event begins at 5:00 and runs until 7:30. Staff who stay to support will receive an hour and a half extended pay. You are welcome to come from help set up and leave at 5:30, come at 5:00 and support until 6:30...
