Nightly News for March 31st

Be aware tomorrow is April Fools Day...and a Friday. Please take a moment to check out your overhead screen. We recently had one fall off the wall and I just want everyone to take a look at theirs to ensure it looks secure. If there is an issue please send an email to Shannon and Tino.  We are able to welcome parent volunteers into our classrooms. They need to be checked through the volunteer system and vaccinated to be in classrooms.  Julia Brim-Edwards was here for almost two hours. She was excited to see kids working in several of the classrooms she visited. We hope to have her return soon.  I have still not caught up on emails.....I am trying!

Weekly Forecast for March 30th

Interviews are complete! Thank you for your patience this week as this pulled us offline quite a bit.  Tomorrow school board member, Julia Brim-Edwards will be visiting around 9:30. I am not sure how long she plans on staying. We will be visiting classrooms and taking a look at whatever else she would to see.  THANK YOU to Donna Morden and Cheryl DeGroot who organized an expectation review for our 3rd graders in cafeteria today. I was able to join them for this review and appreciate their solutions based approach.  I have MANY emails to sort through from this week. I will try to carve out some time tomorrow for this. I am sorry if you are waiting for a reply. I am going to throw the towel in for the night!

ONE MORE DAY. WE CAN DO IT! Please be sure to take a deep breath, your patience pill, and get ready for what may be a turbulent day. I hope you all have the Spring Break of your choosing...rest, adventure, catching up...whatever your heart desires.  If you are needing to come to the building during the break please text me in advance. Morning News for March 10th

Masks: As indoor masking technically becomes optional next week please have a conversation with your homeroom class this week to set up the conditions in which: no matter what a child or family chooses to do, we create and maintain a caring community that does not ridicule those who wear or choose not to wear masks.  Helping children with sentence stems they can use if they feel uncomfortable such as I want to play with you but my family wants masking. Would you mind putting on your mask for a few minutes so we can (insert activity)? I need to stay around people who are masked so I’m going over (name the place). The child wanting masking will likely need to be the one who moves somewhere else, since masking is technically optional This topic may bring up political views and we must remain unbiased. Staff members also have this option. In the event conversations begin to lean towards controversy or politics please reiterate that everyone has a right to their opinion and while ...

Emily and I have Leadership (virtually) tomorrow beginning at 2:00. Depending on the pulse of the building I may leave a bit before and get home as I have solid meetings from 2:00-9:00 and would like to hunker down there.   We have received COVID test kits to send home with students as a resource over Spring Break.  These will be distributed next Friday. I am currently listening to the COVID Update meeting. I was able to look over our concerns and solutions from yesterday and will be sending a longer email out in regards to this tomorrow. Continue to send questions my way.  I hope some of you were able to enjoy some pizza from Atlas in support of our PTA. Nightly News 3/3- Tomorrow is Dress Like Your Favorite Character Day

My apologies for the late entry. I had a district meeting until 7:30 (I am still here) and just realized I had not set it out yet! Happy Friday. If you completed the OSAS training and put your signed test assurance in Theresa's mailbox, watch your email for your login information. This will come from Cambium. If you don't get that email, you can also go to osasportal.org and use the "forgot password" function a few days after turning in the test assurance form.  I heard tomorrow there may be a lot of strange characters in the building and a bunch of crazy crayons. If you are partaking of the festivities please meet in the lobby at 8:35. Thank you to staff who made this week a bit more exciting.

Nightly News for Wednesday the 2nd

Tomorrow is crazy sock day. Start digging in your sock drawers Thank you to those or you who were able to support the 8th grade fundraiser yesterday. I had leftovers for lunch today! Nice work on the fire drill today. We blocked one exit to help us practice and even had it during a lunch/recess to make it that much "extra". Things went well. Thank you to Sarah for thinking ahead and being proactive. Well done team! Emily and I were in a training this afternoon. I am going to work on catching up on several emails tonight, but I think that is it for now.

Tuesday the 1st

Thank you for participating in our FIT Assessment today. We appreciate those of you who were asked to participate.    Please support our 8th graders if you can. You can order ahead at: https://thaifreshpdx.com/ I have spotted this today:  Click on the link for School Safety Lessons (K-5): Slide 20 of this resource is a new template for teaching the routine for the updated outdoor mask option beginning March 1. The notes for slide 20 include prompts for conversations with students regarding this new option. This resource can also be found on the MTSS Climate-Tier 1 webpage. Again, I will be taking a look at how recesses go to determine our next steps. Thursday Grow Portland and our PTA will be holding a mini garden clean up. The weather is looking meh. They will begin @ 3:30. Even helping to support for half an hour would be appreciated.  Fire drill tomorrow at 12:20. This will be during 4th/5th recess and lunch. We will be blocking an exit to help us practice...
