I wanted to take a moment to recognize our PFSP and classified staff members this week, and every week for that matter. They are so appreciated. I am thankful for all the support they give.
This past week when we had the fire drill during lunch, Nga took this on without batting an eye. Her flexibility and teamwork keeps our kids fed on time every single day. The kitchen staff has faced A TON of supply issues, shortages in staff, and other trials over the past year. They continue to show up with smiles, ready to serve. This is only one example of the work I see daily.
Please be sure to find some small way to share your gratitude this week!
- I am struggling with some access to my district emails etc. so am a bit behind this weekend, but am sure things will fall into place. I will reach out to people directly if this impacts them.
- Sarita Flores will be working with us again tomorrow. She may be responding to support calls etc.
- I am sure you saw the information that went out from the district on Friday in regards to masking. We will be working this next week to come up with some mini lessons to share with your classes.
- The Menstrual Dignity Act (HB 3294, 2021) created the requirement for school districts to provide free menstrual products for all menstruating students in public schools in Oregon, including elementary, middle, and high school students. The district recently installed cases for this purpose in several restrooms and will complete this work in the near future. We will begin educating students in 5th-8th grade on this and will work to address potential vandalism and misuse of said items with all students. More to come.
- The unfortunate reality is we do have students who at times become dis regulated and as a result strike out physically. In the event a staff member is struck/kicked/or any other kind of physical contact by a student is made I hope that I am made aware of it. In most situations I am, but I am hearing there are a few situations I was not aware of. I make an effort to check in with staff around this as I know it is emotional and impacts everyone in different ways. If there are events of this nature and you feel I may not be aware please feel free to reach out to me. Additionally, I encourage other staff to send me a text or email if you are aware of a situation and feel I may not know.
- I am working with an architecture firm and district folk around design for the upcoming transition to a middle school. For staff who have been around for longer than I can you share with me the history and story behind the face tiles near the front entrance? I want to make informed decisions before we even discuss removal etc.
- Here is a link to the TNTP schedule for this Friday (https://docs.google.com/document/d/14wywhCjGc_If2nNgAeuU2Mewr2hvEQtB/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=117829890836834948640&rtpof=true&sd=true) . For those teachers who will be part of the observations I have scheduled an optional meeting on Wednesday morning to go over logistics or answer any questions that I can. The requests for lesson information/ etc. has not been shared with me so please forward it to me once you receive it so I can support with additional planning time, etc. if warranted.
- I sent out an email Friday in regards to the Successful Schools Survey. Friday was the deadline, but Emily shared with me Friday afternoon the window has been extended. I do not have the extension date this morning, but want to stress the importance of completing this task. We make every effort to provide staff with time during our Tuesday meetings for district tasks such as surveys, online trainings, etc. so they do not take away from your personal planning time. Since this is a priority we do ask this time is used for said tasks.
- This Tuesday's staff meeting will begin in person. We will meet in the library. Our calendar lists it as time for MTSS work. We will have more details out around this tomorrow. Please plan on being in the building and available until 5:00.
- I wanted to take a moment to appreciate those of you who participated in the door decorating competition. I know this was a great way for kids to connect and grow. I am so excited for next year's in person assembly!
- Thank you to Valerie and Sarah for their work for Read Across America Week.
