- Harrison Park is one of a handful of schools who will have WiFi updates. This new system will be turned on tomorrow, Monday the 14th. This information was sent out last week, but I am including it here. This may impact usage tomorrow.
WHAT IS HAPPENING AND WHY
Our existing PPS-Wifi network configuration is out of date with the advancement of IT networking technology. Replacing it with the new PPS-Wireless configuration will improve network speeds, provide increased security and prevent unauthorized devices accessing PPS networks. More details HERE.
WHAT IS THE IMPACT TO YOU
OTIS will pilot the new PPS-Wireless network at BESC, Harrison Park & Ockley Green starting on March 14, 2022. You will see this new network configuration available but your device will not be able to connect to it until (1) all activation tests are complete and (2) your PPS device has been updated by OTIS as follows to enable you to connect to PPS-Wireless:
PPS Chromebooks and Windows devices - system updates will be rolled out automatically to grant access to the new wireless network.
PPS Apple MAC/iOS devices -
If your MAC/OS device is PPS-owned and less than 3 years old, you should have no significant issues.
Older versions of MAC devices may need OTIS support to detect the new network.
If you have a currently unmanaged PPS Apple device you will not be able to connect to the new PPS-Wireless network until you contact the IT Service Desk at https://support.pps.net or support@pps.net for further instructions on device management licensing and enrollment.
- Thank you to those teachers who participated in the TNTP visit. Our visitors were impressed with the climate in classrooms and had many positives about their visit.
- Every day next week, beginning on Monday, we will be pulling students from classes during 6th period to take their pictures for the yearbook. The theme of these pictures is "One Big HP Family," and we will be taking pictures of HP sibling groups who have elementary and middle school students. Our hope is to be minimally disruptive to your classes, and the pictures should not take long. The leadership students will be responsible for rounding up sibling groups.
- Tomorrow we will hold our second Lock Down Drill @ approximately 10:00. As a reminder: A lockdown is activated when there is a threat inside the school building. Students should immediately move away from the threat. Get to a safe classroom, or get away from the school if possible. Stay quiet and out of sight. Teachers should immediately bring students into the classroom and lock the door, cover the windows and maintain silence. Teachers should not open the door for anyone except school administration or first responders who will have keys to access the room. Please review expectations with your students tomorrow morning prior to the drill.
- As a reminder over spring breaks access in schools will be limited to your contracted hours. If you need to access your classroom or work areas during the break arrangements approval must be made in advance. In order to avoid security breaches and support our custodial and maintenance staff who will be working exhaustively over break completing tasks such as waxing floors, deep cleaning and addressing outstanding work orders. By limiting access to the building we are supporting their ability to get this much needed work accomplished. Thank you for your understanding (district messaging). As you know it is my personal feeling breaks should be just that....breaks. However, I do know some people may want to use a few hours to get caught up or do some planning to help them feel more at ease. If you do need to access the building during the break please let me know a general time frame and I will share out with the custodial staff to ensure this will not impede their work.
- Please make sure you have completed all the training for OSAS testing. Additional time has been given for this purpose.
- This week I will be hosting a pickle party for the class with the best behavior at recess. This includes lunch recess and classrooms recesses. In order to determine the winner I will look at referrals/incidents that occur at recesses, checking in with teachers and duty staff, and making every effort to check in myself. I will be going over specifics with students via the broadcast system. The winners will receive a pickle and extra 15 minute recess on Friday. This is a K-5 competition only.
