Nightly News for February 28th

I definitely have caught the crud. I am doing my best to get to bed early. With night events tonight and tomorrow night I may come in about an hour or so later so I can push through.   Garden has been cancelled for tomorrow.  Due to the assembly on Friday, middle school will not have clubs.  Below is the link to renew your Med Administration Training. If you sign in you should be able to see your account and renew online if it allows you to (depends on how much time has passed). If it says that you must attend a training, you can sign up by browsing events- there is a virtual training on 03/15 at 4:00 pm that has slots available. If you plan on going on any field trips this spring it is imperative you are trained. If any of your students has medications one person on the trip has to be able to administer meds.  https://healthed-trainings. apps.mesd.k12.or.us/ The Probationary Evaluation deadline was pushed out to March 10th. We are plugging away at things and sh...

Nightly News for February 23rd

I am sure you have all heard the news...no school again tomorrow. May you enjoy the weekend and get plenty of snow time in. I worked a bit this morning and then took a lunch break in my hot tub. These will be weather dependent. Here is the schedule.  3rd Grade Boys- 1:45 @ Atkinson 3rd Grade Girls- 10:10 @ Mt Tabor 4th Grade- 12:45 @ Atkinson 5th Grade- 10:10 @ Fernwood I am hoping to catch one of the 10:10 games, but have a conference on Saturday and won't be able to make the others. A huge shout out of appreciation to Danelle, Jessica, Herk, Kara who were instrumental in making this happen for our kids. I also want to thank everyone who came out to support the teams.

Nightly News for February 22nd

I hope you all made it home safely. As I type this we are still waiting patiently for our last bus to arrive. Thank you to Danelle, Tom and Mary for hanging around and helping to supervise students. Mary is still here! I am guessing we may be out tomorrow...we shall see.  I have a few people I was doing pre observations with tomorrow. I sent out invites to do a quick virtual  meeting. I realize it may not be a work day, but we are on a tight timeline and I would like to try and accomplish this if possible as not being here tomorrow will push things out even further. Thank you for your help with this! In the event there is a two hour late start tomorrow we will still hold the middle school activity day on Friday. If there is no school tomorrow this will be postponed until next Friday.

Nightly News for February 15th

I will be out at Leadership tomorrow. Kara will also be out tomorrow. Jerri Walker will be in for her. Jill has an appointment but will be in by 10:00.  For PAT Members- You should have received an email from me today in regards to next year's assignment. , Middle School your assignment is general. For example: Math/Science 1.0- At this time we can not tell you how many sections of what you will be teaching and what grade levels. This work will be determined once we build out the schedule.  All PFSP staff should have received a paper with their assignments on it today. If you did not please see Shannon. Unassignment paperwork went out as well. I emailed all PAT members information on their positions for next year today. Those who were unassigned (even a partial FTE), and PFSP, need to sign the form they were given and turn it in to Shannon as soon as you can .  A reminder that all extended hours/payroll items are due tomorrow by 12:00. We are working really hard on streng...

Nightly News for February 14th

Staffing will officially be submitted today. We will be communicating out positions for next year by the end of the day. We do have some unassignments so I ask you be mindful of colleagues. Most of these are not the result of cuts or  reductions in staffing, but rather the process of splitting the two buildings. The forms submitted to HR around choosing Clark or Harrison Park were binding. I do not feel this was clearly communicated, but they they were designed to determine where someone was placed before the staffing process took place. All but one of our assignments are the result of this. A hypothetical example: Layla currently serves as a 1.0 Theater teacher so she is owed a 1.0 Theater position. She filled out the form from HR around placement and said she wanted to go to Harrison Park next year. Harrison Park does not have a 1.0 Theater position and only has a .50 Theater position. However, Clark does have a 1.0 Theater position. In this scenario I can not offer the 1.0 posit...

I know she will catch up fast, but I would like to allow her a few days to get back into the swing of things. I want to take a moment to recognize Dan and Thersa for stepping up and taking on some things in her absence. I know others also stepped in along the way as well.  Jill and I will be sharing my office. Nightly News for February 8th

We are having the Q1/Q2 Honor Roll Ice Cream Social tomorrow Thursday the 9th in the Cafeteria during 6th period. Invites were handed out to those students today.  Students should report to 6th period and show you their invite to be excused to the cafeteria.  All students invited have been coded in attendance SEV-(School Event) for 6th period.     I failed to share Malia Pousini's schedule she is here Monday from 1:00-5:00, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11:30-3:30.    We have had situations in which middle school students have brought large sums of cash that has gone missing. If you see students with any cash or other expensive items at school please have conversation with the student. K-5 classroom teachers I would ask you alert parents. Middle school teachers please let Dan know.

Nightly News for February 7th

I am in the final stages of the draft of staffing. This means I am not at the point where I am making calls to HR and ensuring I have everything set to input into the SMT (Staffing Management Tool). I will continue to check in with impacted staff in the next few days.  Triangulation...we discussed in our 8th grade kid chat the ongoing saga of students out of class wandering halls. We are working to identify those who seem to be out in the halls the most. One way staff can help is that you do not provide students with water for Raman during class periods. This becomes a reason to be out of class. Students needing to heat up Raman, can do so at lunch only.  This was in Admin Connect today and I felt it was worth sharing. I know it was also sent out to teachers.  I know when I find myself feeling defeated and hopeless I have to find something proactive to get me back to center. This may be something to look into.  Self-Paced Mindfulness Courses for All Staff In alignmen...

Nightly News for February 2nd

Image
I love sharing good news. Tim Schulze and his wife welcomed their daughter this morning. Her name has not been determined. Congrats!    As I mentioned on Monday I felt pretty positive about our staffing. We are definitely not seeing the cuts that other buildings are. However,  I have heard many TOSAs were told in the last few days they will be unassigned from their positions. This may impact staffing in our building as because of seniority and bumping.  I have no solid information at this time, but feel obligated to share this information.  I loaned my laptop out to someone who didn't have a device yet early in the year.  Anyone out there have it? I can't remember for the life of me.  From PTA- All staff will have $15.00 to spend in the upcoming scholastic book fair.  PTA has put in teacher mailboxes Chinese New Year stickers to hand out to all students tomorrow. Please be sure to pick yours up.   Basketball Games this Week: 3rd Gra...

Nightly News for February 1st

THANK YOU to all of you who stepped up this morning to help with our secure the perimeter situation today. I appreciate everyone remaining calm and focused for our student's arrival. Unfortunately, this type of situation seems to be on the increase in our community. I am saddened by the impact on our students and families on a regular basis. It is a good reminder that we should always remain vigilant and aware of our surroundings. Please be sure to report anything unusual to admin, the office or Herk.  We are seeing a lot more "collisions" on the playground for grade level recesses. By this I mean classes are not going at their assigned times and we have a pile up of grades etc. Please be sure to revisit when your grade level's time is. If you arrive late we ask that you wrap up recess at the normal end time. Classes should only be out during their assigned time. If you are going out for any other earned recesses, etc. you should let admin and the office know and shou...
