I hope you are having a weekend filled with things that make you happy. I know many of you participated in PD on Friday. I hope it was worthwhile and useful. I spent the day in several virtual meetings and trying to catch up on emails...I still have a long way to go there. Emily, Jill and I have many evaluations to wrap up prior to the March 1st deadline and our hope is to focus on this as much as possible over the next week and half. I know you all are aware of the limited time available to complete all the things we have to accomplish and your patience is appreciated.

  • Tuesday students return from a four day weekend. Please be sure to spend ample time revisiting classroom expectations. While it saddens me to say this, we should expect dysregulation with students coming in on Tuesday. We have noticed the trend of Monday's being especially difficult for many students. Think ahead to find a way to welcome students in and support a positive climate.
  • On Wednesday all staff who serve on K-5 recess and lunch duties will be meeting to discuss current concerns and areas that we need to reteach. We will share out with everyone after we meet. The plan will be to hold short reteaching sessions starting next week in both the cafeteria and on the playground. We will also be holding sessions for hallway/bathroom behaviors. More info to follow.
  • Multicultural Night is fast approaching. This event has not taken place for several years and our hope is to return to hold one last Harrison Park Multicultural Event as we part ways. This event takes place on March 23rd from 6:00-7:30. It is one of the options for staff to choose as their night event (Promotion and Open House being the other two). In the past grades/classes have showcased a project celebrating one's personal culture and displayed it during the event. Families have sponsored tables with artifacts, food, etc in the cafeteria and students have performed in the auditorium. The following day, Friday, we have held several assemblies for students to watch performances. It is a great way to keep kids engaged and focused prior to Spring Break. This will be added to PLC agendas this week and we will be holding optional meetings for those of you interested in helping to plan this event.
  • Room 136 will be closing in the next few weeks. In order to provide confidentiality I will not go into specifics, but will update staff on things a bit. Three students have exited the self contained program and will remain at Harrison Park. Several students departed last week for their new schools. We have two students whose last day will be Tuesday. This leaves us with four remaining students. Three have all been placed in other programs and one we are still waiting for information on. Start dates for these students is dependent on transportation. Stephanie Jones, who has been a huge addition to this team, will remain with us until everyone is placed. Mikailia Morgan, our remaining para, will remain with us for the time being. I want to thank Audra, Chukwu, Lindsay, and Ruth for stepping up and helping to support students with SE learning and morning circles over the past two months. Your work has made a difference. As of right now HP has a SE classroom slated for next year. A decision has not been officially made in terms of whether or not that will actually be the case.
  • We do have a posting for a full time Reading EA. This is the position that Laleia Freeman vacated when she moved into a para position within the building. If you know of anyone looking for a position let me know. This position will be at Clark next year.
