Super Bowl Sunday. I know for many it is a holiday. I am enjoying the sun from my chair, but need to get up and start making my famous Dickey Dogs...a Super Bowl staple.
Emily will be back in the building starting tomorrow. I know she will catch up fast, but I would like to allow her a few days to get back into the swing of things. I want to take a moment to recognize Dan and Thersa for stepping up and taking on some things in her absence. I know others also stepped in along the way as well.
Jill and I will be sharing my office. I am going to be shifting into full blown evaluation and transition gear after staffing is completed on Wednesday. Both of us will be utilizing a small area behind my office that is currently used to store supplies etc. I am guessing my office will be used when we are meeting with staff and students and the other space will be used when we are working on tasks. I am excited to have a roommate!

  • Up for grabs Blazer tickets to Tuesday's game against the Washington Wizards. Two seats in the 300 level. If you are interested send me a text or email and I will enter it in a drawing. I will have Shannon choose the winner tomorrow at high noon. All entries must be in by 11:45.
  • Some teachers have requested more desks recently. There are now a couple of single desks and a double desk in 171 you are welcome to take. If you have any desks you don't need in your classroom please mark them to move to 171 so they can find a classroom that does need them
  • Valentine's Day snuck up on me this year. We did not have a discussion around expectations etc. We will follow what we have done in the past. You are welcome to celebrate friendship in your classrooms with a treat, exchanging of cards, etc. If you share out a class list it should not have students first and last names on it for privacy reasons. I fully realize this should have been shared out much earlier. I know a large percentage of students do not bring cards for exchange etc. If you do chose to do a small celebration please limit it to the end of the day and keep it to about half an hour. This is the type of thing that can really disrupt the flow of the day and escalate behaviors. One activity is the paper plate activity:
1. Give each student a paper plate
2. Have them write their name at the center of the plate
3. Have them pass the plate around and each student writes a positive comment about said student

This would be difficult for our K/1 students and would require some vocabulary front loading. I would suggest having kids brainstorm kind words and having those posted on the overhead. If you are interested in doing this with your classes and need paper plates please email or text me so I can get them to you by Tuesday morning.

  • From Conni: Leadership will be bringing around your envelopes with your class grams during 6th period on Monday.  Elementary-please hand out as your schedule allows on Tuesday.   Middle school- there is a prompt on the Tuesday slides to do so during Advisory-that is how they are organized.

A note-I did find a couple that had negative, unkind messages on them.  I threw them out and will not refund money.  Please take a sec and look through in case I missed any.  That would be very hurtful to anyone receiving that and I would like to avoid that.
  • Tuesday's staff meetings are set aside for Cadres. Please let Theresa or I know if you are unsure of which one to attend.
  • Friday is an unpaid day. The building will be open normal hours for staff who chose to come in. There are many professional development opportunities to partake of and you will receive extended pay.
