Nightly News for February 14th

  • Staffing will officially be submitted today. We will be communicating out positions for next year by the end of the day. We do have some unassignments so I ask you be mindful of colleagues. Most of these are not the result of cuts or  reductions in staffing, but rather the process of splitting the two buildings. The forms submitted to HR around choosing Clark or Harrison Park were binding. I do not feel this was clearly communicated, but they they were designed to determine where someone was placed before the staffing process took place. All but one of our assignments are the result of this.
A hypothetical example: Layla currently serves as a 1.0 Theater teacher so she is owed a 1.0 Theater position. She filled out the form from HR around placement and said she wanted to go to Harrison Park next year. Harrison Park does not have a 1.0 Theater position and only has a .50 Theater position. However, Clark does have a 1.0 Theater position. In this scenario I can not offer the 1.0 position to Layla and have to unassign her .50. Since she is owed a 1.0 position and one is available at Clark she is welcome to interview for that position in the first round. I will talk to those impacted by this directly in person, but hope this helps people understand this process. Please know it has made things very difficult. If I was able to simple shift people from one building or the other we would only be looking at one true unassignment. As I said a few weeks ago, I take staffing very seriously because I know the impacts on your lives and your loved ones. It is stressful. I have lived through this process and it is hard.
  • THANK you to June for bringing in the treats and coffee. She was especially bummed there was not a snow day, but saw the silver lining in bringing treats in for staff. Much appreciated.
  • Staff a reminder that per the contract, staff will be paid extended hours for IEP meetings only if they are beyond the workday or during their planning time (Article 5.D 10 S.) . The exception is when a substitute is provided. In this situation no extended hours are offered.
  • Jill will be leaving tomorrow a little before 2:00
