I hope the unexpected four day weekend treated you well and you were all able to stay safe. I wasted a lot of time reading and relaxing, but enjoyed spending time with my family. Unfortunately, I started to feel icky on Saturday night and woke up this morning exhausted. I am hoping I can fight it off with another day of rest. We have some rescheduled events this week and a few things that may need to be rescheduled so flexibility may be needed this week. We will be checking in tomorrow to adjust dates if need be and will share out ASAP.
- We know from the past few Mondays (last week's Tuesday) that students, especially our Tier II/III students, are coming in dysregulated after the weekend. I am sure tomorrow (today if you are reading this on Monday morning) will be no different. Many of our kids were cooped up over the last four days and will have a lot of pent up energy and emotions. Best laid plans will be to go into tomorrow morning gently with a solid morning circle and plenty of time given to reviewing classroom expectations. Keep in mind that for some of our students snow days are not filled with fun and frolic as many of them lack the appropriate clothing, safe outdoor spaces and supervision for this to occur. I know in year's past one teacher acknowledged in a way similar to this: "Wow it is so nice to see you. I missed you and worried about you. I know some of you got to play out in the snow, but some of you might not have been able to. I know I didn't have good shoes to go out in the snow and so I stayed inside a lot and it was hard." I guess what I am getting at is we as adults can help our students ease into the week with our words and being aware of possible anxieties and angst can assuage some of their feelings.
- I am not sure how much snow will remain at HP tomorrow (there is still quite a bit at my house), but in the event there is a lot we will determine what recess looks like. The forecast does call for a lot of rain this week so I anticipate some indoor recesses.
- I will be sending out invites to staff for a recess/cafeteria expectation presentation. This is for K-5 classes. We ask that teachers bring students to the cafeteria and have them sit together as a class. Those people on duty, as well as administrators, will review expectations for the cafeteria and recess. We met last week to discuss the areas we need to address most. We will be asking some students to remain behind in order to discuss specific behaviors of concern with students who seem to be struggling the most.
- K-5 ELD teachers will be working with ELL's on ELPA prep and therefore will not be supporting Wit and Wisdom for the next two weeks. They will begin testing the two weeks prior to Spring Break.
