Nightly News for April 28th

We are placing an order for tech supplies VERY soon. Please fill out this brief survey ASAP - https://forms.gle/uXFA637LESdmH5c4A    Reminders about Team Responses - 1. This isn't a lock down but, also not business as usual. This is used when there is something happening in a part of the school that we don't want kids involved in. 2. When a team response is called IF YOU HAVE STUDENTS - take attendance and account for missing students. Try not to call the office but, if needed it is okay. You may not get an answer right away. You can call other rooms to verify a student is there. Then keep students in your classroom until further notice. They are not going out for water/bathroom during this. If it's an emergency call the office for an okay or escort if needed. 3. If you DON'T have students - report to the office or lobby area and wait. Directions will be given. It may be that we don't need you and you'll be dismissed. On that note today's Team R...

Nightly News for April 27th

As a heads up we will begin collecting all student facing devices the May 31st through June 8th. We will discuss specific grade level timelines in the next week or two. All devices, including VILS, will be collected for the summer.  We are placing orders for some tech supplies. We need all teachers to fill this out as soon as possible.    https://forms.gle/ uXFA637LESdmH5c4A Middle school teachers a reminder that progress reports are due on May 6th (next Friday).  We have some credit at the print shop and would like to use it up before the end of the year. We encourage you to think about things you may need for the remainder of this year and maybe you are super prepared and able to get some things squared away for next year. If you need support with this Theresa is willing to help.  We decided not to exit the building today. We have several student situations going on and limited staff to keep eyes on everyone. Theresa, the knower of all things safety, poi...

Weekly Forecast for April 26th

Tomorrow @ 1:45 we will be holding our Earthquake Drill. Here is a link for more resources if you are interested. I found it to be a bit convoluted, but it is what the district shared.    https://www.shakeout.org/COVID-19/index.html  .  Please go over the following with students prior to the drill: Duck-Cover-Hold for an Earthquake Students-Get under a hard surface such as your desk. Stay away from windows and falling objects (bookcases, shelves, etc).  Teachers- Get under hard surface and stay away from windows and falling objects. Assess the damage. The fire alarm will go off and that is your all clear to leave the building. Grab attendance, emergency forms, bucket etc. and exit the building. This is when the shaking has stopped.  Exit building out your normal fire drill exits. We will do a sweep of the building and clear people to come back in.  I hope Job Alikes were beneficial. K-5 team we look forward to your hearing your ideas and ways we can im...

Nightly News for April 25th

As a reminder if you are planning a field trip please make sure you have checked with Kelly to see if any of your students need medications while you are on the on the trip. If they do you have to be trained prior to going. Along the same lines at least one staff member be first aid and CPR trained. Most people have expired cards right now. Additionally, if you plan on asking other staff to attend with you please ask Leah, or Emily, before putting their name down on the form. I would love to send extra staff members, but with sub shortages, etc. can not guarantee this can happen. The best plan is to ensure you have enough coverage without these staff members, and if they are able to go you have extra. Finally, if you are taking parent volunteers they have to be background checked prior to attending. You can ask Monica, Naima or Shannon to check on this for you, but it is your responsibility to ensure they are cleared to go.  Did anyone order NBA Math Hoop Games? They are sitting in...

I am taking in every game I can as this ride is almost over. I am sure on the drive home more will come to mind, but I am thinking it can wait until tomorrow's Nightly News.  There were some last minute shifts in job a likes and we are rearranging plans for Tuesday's staff meeting. Nightly News for April 20th

Just wanted to let everyone know that I am getting the morning "sub shortage" alert once again. We have had several days this week where we have had to provide coverage because non one picked up the job. I appreciate the work of the Michelle and Cheryl yesterday and JoAnna, Natalia, June and Tami today for jumping in without complaint. I am trying to make an effort to impact our interventions, ESL, schedules as much as possible. It is like trying to choose whether you want your toe nail pulled out or poison ivy. Neither choice is ideal. If you are aware of an upcoming absence please get it put in the system ASAP. If you are on the fence about whether or not you can come in, it would be better to put in the absence as soon as possible and then a final decision if it doesn't get picked up. As a reminder the front parking lot is for office staff and employees who may have to leave and come back throughout the day. We also want to ensure we have a few spots available for fam...

Nightly News for April 19th

Tomorrow is exclusion day. Students who do not have their mandatory vaccinations will be excluded. Letters went home with students at the end of today. Monica will health exclude them for tomorrow. If a student shows up tomorrow and is health excluded please send to the office immediately. I would follow up with a call just to ensure staff is aware  Tomorrow is 4/20. Please note this day often has some student hi jinx (mainly middle school) and lots of marijuana talk. Just keep your ears and eyes open.  Speaking of hi jinx it has come to our attention that middle school students are using school based GoogleMeets outside of school hours. I could only hope they were using this time to study together and collaborate on assignments, however this is not the case. A few situations have come out of these chat sessions and a few involve students from other schools as well. Please be sure any GoogleMeets you own have been ended upon completion. This is one of those grey areas......

Nightly News for Monday the 18th

Tomorrow is the last day students who do not have their immunizations can attend school. Wednesday the 20th, they will be excluded. Tomorrow we will ensure that 1st period teachers and homeroom teachers are aware of the students they serve who are excluded. Monica will be putting in HEX in Synergy for the 20th. We will not be able to print lists and distribute as this is a privacy issue. Teachers, be on the look out for this. I will have more instructions in tomorrow's Nightly.  Tomorrow afternoon our 5th-8th grade students will have the opportunity to listen to and work with some of the performers from Hamilton. Thank you Cami for bringing this to Harrison Park! This assembly will run from 1:30-3:00. Students need to go to their 5th period class, take attendance and then get to the auditorium in a orderly fashion with their 5th period teacher. Students will not be allowed to enter without their teacher. Students should leave their binders and personal belongings in their 5th...

Weekly Forecast April 18 - 22

Monday the 18th SIT @ 3:30 Tuesday the 19th Staff Meeting @ 3:30 Wednesday the 20th ILCT @ 3:30 Thursday the 21st Friday the 22nd Lunch Service- Kempster, Wickstrom, Kunz, Schulze (Last Week) We have had a positive case of COVID at Harrison Park. I will be sending out notification to our communities later this evening. This person was in the building and potentially contagious on Wednesday and Thursday.  As a reminder OSAS testing is taking place. This may impact support schedules, etc. We have asked those who will have schedule adjustments let you know directly to help avoid confusion. We appreciate everyone's support with this.  The ceiling of the women's staff restroom has been repaired. I did not get an update on Friday around the boiler, but did have it shut off at 1:00 to help with unbearable temps in the afternoons. Temperatures look to be higher this week and if this continues we will plan on turning the boilers off mid day. Speaking of the weather it looks like we ma...

Nightly News for April 14th

Thank you to everyone who stepped in to day to assist while Emily and I were out of the building. We appreciate you all! We have a middle school assembly tomorrow @ 2:25.  This is a musical group brought to us by YEP (Youth Empowerment Project).  I am in daily contact with facilities around the boiler issues. I am supposed to get an update tomorrow morning. We can provide an alternative location for classrooms that are unable to remain at a reasonable temperature.  We are working with facilities to repair the ceiling in the women's staff restroom. I will update you as soon as I have more information.

Nightly News April 13th, 2022

As a reminder Emily and I will be out tomorrow at Leadership. In the event of an emergency Emily may return. Maria Chinakos will be here for Tami, and Tami will be filling in for admin. We are available by email/texts.  If you are having any issues due to the heat in your room please email Shannon, me and Tino. This would include condensation on the windows, steam, water damage, etc.  In an effort to account for Middle School students during lunch and recess we are asking that all spaces hosting kids, other than the hall/cafeteria and playground, sign in students and mark if they are with you for lunch, recess, or both.  This is also a way that the office can locate students more quickly. Here is the sign in. If you need help with this check in with Theresa. Please do not leave green trays at the hallway dumping station. There isn't anyone who picks them up, as middle school is still using paper.  The end of the pay period is Friday the 15th.  Please turn in an...

Nightly News for April 12th

I hope you all enjoyed the surprise snow day. I did not send out a Nightly News last night as there was nothing of note to share.  We will work on rescheduling 8th grade pictures as soon as possible.  We had a team response today. Everything is okay and the student did not end up having to go in the ambulance. Thank you to all staff who stepped in and kept the lobby cleared.  You may be aware, but we had some leaking last night due to the snow. From what I understand this is not a roof issue, but was caused by snow and drains. The drains have been cleared, but unfortunately, we did have some ceiling tile damage and water in the women's staff bathroom. We also had a leak in the library book room. Thank you to Valerie and Eva for salvaging the books you could. We will be working on next steps.  There are parts of the building that are either extremely hot or frigid.  District HVAC has been in daily (including over the weekend) to try and determine what is go...

Nightly News for April 6th

As you are filling out report cards now it would be a perfect time to take a look at the kid chat document and update interventions, information etc.  YEP will be tomorrow at 1030 and 1125.  If there are students who should not go because this is the  last day of the quarter and need to complete work please have a private conversation with them ahead of time. I let the K-5 teachers know yesterday in our staff meeting, but wanted to communicate out that we Friday is a work day. Administration can not ask you to meet, and we will actually be at an offsite meeting for most of the day. That being said, since it is your work time you may opt to work in the building or from home. Our only expectation is you complete grades on time and other tasks required to support students. As a reminder this is the last work day prior to the end of the year so make it count....I need to clean my office at some point and hope to do this Friday.  The PTA will be here on Friday doin...

Nightly News for April 5th

Remember to pick up your snacks Theresa has began to distribute some small candies/food items for students to have during testing. As your class gets closer to their testing time she will make sure these are available. Please not this will be for ALL sessions of testing and will need to be distributed to students accordingly.  Earlier today, the counseling team sent out an optional art project, but please pause this project for now. We are waiting for some guidance on PPS policy around art projects for religious holidays. Instead, feel free to show the other slides to your class and watch the video.  Thanks for your support for our students.  My office was HOT today. We know there were issues with the heating system. We had people out and hopefully it will be fixed for tomorrow. When in doubt wear layers. I had a sweater on and couldn't take it off because I realized after I got dressed this morning my shirt had a hole in it.

Nightly News for April 4th

This morning, as you know, we experienced an  unplanned fire alarm. A sensor was activated when a staff member used an electric tea kettle. The steam was near the sensor and set off the alarm. We were able to determine the approximate location of where the alarm tripped, and at first thought it was a pull. Since it was not a pull we had to wait for the fire department to give us the all clear to return to the building. I want to thank staff who were quick to step in and support during this drill. It was definitely not great timing BUT it did force us to adjust and adapt just like we would need to in a real situation. Some feedback or areas for improvement: Adults if you are in the building with a class remember you should be leading the class in the event you have to evacuate. Another area we can improve on is ensuring that students are facing away from the building during this time.  Overall, we did a great job! Thank you.  For the most part lunches went smoothly today w...
