Nightly News for April 4th

  • This morning, as you know, we experienced an  unplanned fire alarm. A sensor was activated when a staff member used an electric tea kettle. The steam was near the sensor and set off the alarm. We were able to determine the approximate location of where the alarm tripped, and at first thought it was a pull. Since it was not a pull we had to wait for the fire department to give us the all clear to return to the building. I want to thank staff who were quick to step in and support during this drill. It was definitely not great timing BUT it did force us to adjust and adapt just like we would need to in a real situation. Some feedback or areas for improvement: Adults if you are in the building with a class remember you should be leading the class in the event you have to evacuate. Another area we can improve on is ensuring that students are facing away from the building during this time.  Overall, we did a great job! Thank you.
  • For the most part lunches went smoothly today with our adjustments for Ramadan. We had several third grade, fifth grade and middle school students who chose to sit in alternative locations today. K-5 have been given space in the cafeteria. Middle schoolers will have the option of going into the library during their lunch time. There were not a lot of students choosing to pray at 1:30. We anticipate this may fluctuate this week, and then we will have a better idea. We will make adjustments as needed. Any student who prays will be given a pass with the time of their return on it.
  • For staff meeting tomorrow middle school will be meeting in Georgie Steeve's room (158) @ 3:30. All other staff will briefly meet in the library @ 3:30. Middle School will focus on AVID and some accreditation work K-5, and those serving K-5, will be focused on grading and parent communication.
  • There has been an uptick in movies being shown in classrooms. Please make sure going forward if you plan to show movies in class you have approval from administration. We ask that any movie shown ties to your content/curriculum. If you need ideas on how rewards you can give to classes please feel free to reach out. There is an urgency to ensuring we are doing everything we can to help our students catch up and every minute of instructional time counts.
