- OSAS Testing begins this week. Please be aware some of your services may be interrupted. Those providing services (ESL, Reading, etc.) will communicate with teachers they work with directly.
- Field trips are now allowed. Please be aware administration approval needs to be given. Please ask Emily or me if you are thinking about planning a field trip so we can ensure this is something we can proceed with. Also, please be sure to complete the checklist for this purpose. Shannon can assist with this. Keep in mind someone attending needs to be medication trained. Review students in your room and ensure there are not other health conditions, etc that need to be taken into account. Buses have to be scheduled after 9:00 in the morning and must return by 1:00 (maybe 1:30...I am forgetting exact time). Chaperones also must be lined up and approved prior to the trip. ANY parent attending has to be have a background check/volunteer approval and must be vaccinated.
- Theresa sent this out to K-5 teachers on Friday, but I will repeat it.
Report card comments will be done the same as quarter 2 comments.
Here is the Report Card Folder for translations this year. Add it to your drive by clicking on the name of the folder. Then add a shortcut to Drive. (See attached) Please note the quarter 1 and 2 folders are now view-only.
If a comment does not need to be translated enter it directly into Synergy.
If a comment needs to be translated share it in the folder of the language you need. The easiest way to do this is to (see attached for pics)
1. Open the language folder you need.
2. Then click 'New' and 'Google Doc'.
This creates a document that is automatically shared with everyone who needs it. Make sure the title of the document is Your name followed by other info you need, for example, "Turner - 3rd Fred." When the translator is done, they will add the word DONE to the beginning of the title, for example, "DONE Turner - 3rd Fred."
If your team is using a common comment, please create another doc with the comment frame in each language.
Important Dates:
4/8 - Record Keeping Day - Comments needing translation should be completed 1st. This makes it so our translation team has as much time as possible to complete all comments.
4/11 - ESL and Elective teachers' grades need to be complete in Synergy.
4/11 - Last day to add translated comments.
4/12 - Reading, Sped, and ESL - Give a printed copy of comments to classroom teachers, as needed.
4/13 - Classroom Teachers - Give printed copies of report cards and comments to the office for record-keeping.
4/15 - Report Cards sent home by the classroom teacher. Dates for report card stuff- For those teaching Middle School please note that a session of the Middle School Redesign Workshop will take place on Wednesday, April 14th from 4:30-7:30 @ the BESC. Dinner will be served and extended hours (3 hours total) will be paid. This work began on Tuesday during staff development time. I feel this work can become the foundation of our middle school transition. I urge anyone interested to join in. This work translates much better in person.
- Jut a reminder that we still have protocols in place for classroom visitors. We put this information out to families in our weekly newsletter. For ANY visitor who will be in the building longer than 15 minutes proof of vaccination is needed. Volunteers are welcome in classrooms, but need to be cleared/approved. Visitors longer than 15 minutes should also be scheduled and the office staff/administration should be made aware. For example: "Just wanted to let you know Parent A is coming in today to volunteer around 1:00 and will be here for the remainder of the afternoon." We ask that you ask them if they are background checked and vaccinated. We will follow up in the office when they arrive. We appreciate your cooperation around this as it helps to avoid awkward and sometimes contentious conversations when visitors are not vaccinated or cleared.
- Along the same lines if you are aware of a parent coming in with treats for a Birthday please let the office know what the plan is. Are they just dropping off? Are they cleared (vaccinated and volunteer checked) and bringing them to your room? We have had some situations where families came in with treats and expected to take them into the classroom to celebrate only to be turned away. Again, this can be upsetting to them. I will state this is something I would like to avoid altogether and we can discuss this more for next year. We have told families due to COVID treats will be sent home at the end of the day, but as we know some parents may not be aware, or care.
- If you have not completed testing training please make sure this is done ASAP. Time has been given for this task. It is imperative all staff is trained as our protocol is to have two adults in every testing session for security purposes.

Prayers
We will use the Symptom Room as the Prayer Room. In the event we need more space Emily's office will be overflow. This will be supervised by a staff member who will sit outside the door. Prayers take place at 1:30. Any middle school student participating will report immediately after lunch/recess and will be given a pass to return to class immediately after. This should take no longer than 15 minutes total.
In the event there is an issue and students are not using the time appropriately we will follow these steps:
1. Provide the student with a warning
2. Contact the parent and let them know
3. Parents will be contacted and asked to come support the student during this time or they can make the decision to revoke this time.
Please note we will not make a general announcement about this and anticipate our Muslim students will make this decision for themselves.
