Nightly News for Sept 29, 2022

If you need supplies from Textbooks please email Theresa before you order. We have doubles of materials showing up.  The office had several situations today where they needed to locate students for pickup or various reasons and no one was in the classroom. If you are out of your classroom, other than your structured recess time, please make sure you let the office know of your location. We ask you to follow your recess time slot we have had some collisions of "appointments" of fifteen minutes. Tomorrow's Lockdown drill will be taking place at approximately 9:25. I had every intention of creating a video today to go over expectations, but it was a busy day and I chose to support classrooms instead. I MAY get to it this evening and will share a link out separately if this happens. In the event it does not I will make an announcement at 9:15 to remind students of expectations, etc.  The Safety Team had a great idea of creating some Harrison Park specific videos to use for d...

Nightly News for September 28th

Superintendent Guerrero was here for an hour this morning. We were able to get into several classrooms and tour the building. He chuckled at our nine middle school boys leaving the bathroom during passing time (whew) and was happy to interact with several students.  Dr.Franco sent out an email letting us know there were several issues around technology yesterday and many people were not able to get into the session. Please let me know if this was the case. Here are the materials from the K-5 meetings (where the majority of the issues occurred). K-5 Session Resources: Slide deck Scavenger Hunt Curriculum Website Links: Kindergarten 1st Grade 2nd Grade 3rd Grade 4th Grade 5th Grade Padlet Links: Kindergarten 1st Grade 2nd Grade 3rd Grade 4th Grade 5th Grade Feedback Form   We will be holding our Lockdown Drill on Friday at 9:20.  This drill should last about 20 minutes total. The end of the month got away from us and I realized yesterday this was one we need to get in befor...

Nightly News for Tuesday the 27th

I meant to post before I left tonight, but alas I was a bit distracted. By the time I got home I received an email  from the superintendent's office letting me know he will be visiting tomorrow around 10:15. Please carry on with learning as normal. My hope is to visit some classrooms, but I will take his lead. My apologies for the late post, but I chose to take a few hours off to focus on my family and celebration of my nephew's birthday. When a 13 year-old requests a family party you embrace it! Thank you for your flexibility on the bus drill today. In years past they have used the south parking lot for our drills. This year they determined they could not maneuver through and lined up in front of the building instead. We were short one bus, but were still able to get everyone done quickly. I appreciate student behavior. You guys did a great job getting students out and back into the building. We saw some stellar classes. Hats off to you. If you did not turn in your attendance ...

Nightly News for Monday the 26th

A reminder that tomorrow is our bus drill. They will arrive between 9:45-10:05. We do have a total of seven buses coming. We will begin with middle school classes.  This drill will require teachers to be listening carefully for their phones and for the announcements. We anticipate this will impact 4th/5th and 2nd/3rd Specials to some extent.  Drill Instructions - A class list was put in your boxes today. Please keep this list and highlight students who were absent. We will ask you to bring it with you to the bus and turn it in at that time.    When it is your classes turn to board buses please take students through either the doors nearest the small playground, or the cafeteria doors (headed into the parking lot). Once you arrive at the doors please wait for someone to give you directions. Our goal is to have all students with their teacher on the same bus, but some classes may be split up.  Please have your students remain in line and assist them in boar...

I started some check ins this week and will continue to schedule them as much as possible. With 86+ adults in the building on any given day there is never enough time. Sigh. We will hold our Bus Safety Drill on Tuesday. Please note buses will arrive between 9:45-10:05. We do not have an exact time they will be ready for us. This drill will require teachers to be listening carefully for their phones and for the announcements. We do not know how many buses will be here to support our drills. For that reason we will be flexible...

Nightly News for September 21st

Shannon and I will be out of the building tomorrow morning and should be back by noon. Naima will be preparing for subs.  Kenneth asked me to share: Hi HP, I am currently rolling out Chromebooks for Kellogg. I will be out of the building until next Tuesday 9/27. Please email me issues and I will follow up on those next week. I am reading those and if there is something I can do remotely I will! The building will be open on Friday. If you plan on coming in please be out no later that 5:30.

Nightly News for Tuesday September 20th

We have two major due dates for Title this week. Shannon will be out tomorrow morning to complete our 2021-22 year end budget and is out in the afternoon for an appointment. She won't be in tomorrow. Naima will manage substitutes tomorrow and Thursday. On that note Shannon and I will be completing our 2022-23 Title proposed budget on Thursday morning and will be offsite to complete this task.  Safety Alert/Tip- While there are some great things about the new office there are some drawbacks. Today, a staff member was hit by the swinging gate in the front office. Please be mindful when walking through to do so slowly. I would advise if you are accessing your mailboxes you go through the staff entrance on the north side of the office instead of going through the main office door and through the gate. This front area is fairly small and we will try to keep it as clear as possible for students/parents.

Nightly News for Monday September 19th

The back area where we have been storing furniture etc. will be utilized by our community partners this year. We will finally begin to attack this area and begin putting it to use again. Please avoid dumping furniture and other items in this area from this point on.   McDaniel is looking for a member (or members) of HP staff to attend home football games and keep an eye on our HP students. I want our kids to be able to participate in their community events and would like to partner with them. Let me know if you are interested in attending. They will offer extended pay and if we have other staff members interested I may do so as well. Talk to me if you have any questions. This would require supervision and "wrangling" a bit.  Starting next Monday we will be swapping the Kinder/1st and 1/2 DLI classroom's lunches/recesses. Basically they will just do the opposite of what they are doing now. We will communicate this out in more detail to those it impacts, but I wanted to let...

We did not know how many people to expect as this was our first real in person event since the pandemic began. We were pleased with the turnout. I had a parent coffee on Friday and received some feedback around the announcements, the schedule etc. If you have input please send it my way. Over the weekend I brought my pet goats in to help with some clean up in the Science courtyard. I will be seeing how they do and keeping a close on on how this might disrupt any classrooms lining the courtyard. To be honest, I am not sure how much they will help with the clean up, but if my "jungle" at home is any indicati...

Nightly News for September 15th

Thank you so much to everyone who showed up. A HUGE thank you to Shannon for getting tables set up for our community partners, getting food lined up and all the details. Also Kenneth who donned the bulldog costume. I can not imagine how hot it must have been.  There should still be some sandwiches in the staff room fridge. Take a look. Please leave the cases of water and unopened chips in the staff room. We will be saving these for future events! Due to low attendance at our Title, ESL and TAG nights we decided to do these presentations last night. These will be uploaded to our web page and sent out in our weekly newsletter as well. Since we did presentations this meant I was not able to get to rooms or circulate in the halls. I look forward to checking in with people tomorrow. Please make sure you let me know if anything came up that you would like to discuss.  I did pop into a few classrooms before hand and they looked inviting!  Tomorrow is Friday.

Nightly News for September 14th

Well that was a day! Lots going on today. I am just now taking some time to sit down and do the Nightly News.  Wear your HP shirt if possible tomorrow (laundry is a real thing...is mine clean from Friday?) I will be at Leadership tomorrow and will return to the building by 4:30 for Open House preparation. Emily will remain in the building.   I have several drafted emails etc. to send out and will get to those in the morning. All PAT members should plan on being plugged in for various support from 6:00-6:25 tomorrow evening. More details will follow. PFSP, we would love to have you join us tomorrow night. Please remember this is not in your contract and will be for extended pay.

Nightly News for September 12th

We will be holding our first staff meeting  tomorrow from 3:35-5:00. K-5 teachers please be sure to grab your Wit & Wisdom supplies before hand (see below).  Snacks start tomorrow. Please send a student to pick up after 10:30. K-2 you may send two students. The kitchen has a supply of napkins, gloves, etc. Please forward requests to Nga @ nnguyen1@pps.net.  From Kenneth:  T eachers! Hear me, Hear me now. You have the power to give your students temporary passwords so they can log in. Once they log in they will be prompted to set their own passwords themselves. Dr. Brenda Carpenter is working slides for next weeks Tech Tuesday with info in it as well (middle school).  Here is a link to instructions in case anyone needs this now. Enjoy the power of resetting students' passwords! This will allow you to address these needs as opposed to waiting for another staff member to get to it as they can.  https://support.pps.net/ support/solutions/articles/ 80000761...
