Nightly News for October 31st

I have been struggling to have focused time to complete evaluations and Title 1 compliance work. I worked offsite today with the intention of coming in around 1:30, but was on a very productive roll and opted to continue my work. Thank you team for holding things down in my absence. The good news is I a now up to date on evaluations. Title 1 work has started and I will hopefully continue to make a dent in it this evening. I will be in tomorrow! Ahhh the day after Halloween. Always a fun one at school. I will send out a Remind message tonight to ask parents to not send students with candy to school. I will also remind them about our non-sharing policy. Fortunately, or unfortunately, the rain may deter a lot of those huge candy hauls. Pack your patience in your lunch because I am sure you will need it.  Just a reminder that students should take their coats and outside garb with them to recess. We will make every effort to get them outside. I know today was nasty, but we will lo...

This month always flies by and the much anticipated and needed Thanksgiving break is suddenly here. This past week seemed to be a little calmer (in my opinion). I know many of you are trying to focus on the positives and it does make a difference. I also see interventions working for several students. We are making growth, inch by inch.  Theresa is out all week. Emily, Mike Benson and Elin Wickstrom will be out on Wednesday and Thursday as they are attending a Middle School Conference.  W...

Nightly News for October 27th

For all staff on recess duty please remember we have fanny packs with safety items for recess. Kelly has these available for pickup in the health room. If you are attending a field trip you are encouraged to take one along. Please check one out in the health room.  We have face shields for anyone interested in picking one up  in the health room. This can be attached to your lanyard and used in the event you have to perform CPR.  The Safety Team met this morning and we decided to make our fire drill for the month of November an unannounced one. Just wanted to give everyone an early heads up. Also, we will be doing our quarterly safety walk through next Friday. If you have any facility safety issues you would like us to take a look at please email me or Shannon so we can add it to our list.  If parents or students ask about costumes we are not putting out any formal messaging in regards to this. My opinion is if we say don't wear them we will have parents/kids in an up...

Nightly News for October 26th

THANK you to those who showed up today for the first aid and CPR training. We had at least 13 people there. It is good to know we have so many trained staff available in the event of a medical emergency. Some of you may have met Okechuwu Nwerem today, our new Restorative Justice Coordinator. He officially starts on Monday, but came by for a bit this afternoon to tour the building and look at his space. His office will be located in room 185D (the "kiln room").

Nightly News for October 25th

In the last week or so we have had several situations come up around the use of racial language. This is in our K-5 grades as well as middle school. We will be addressing this with some visits to classrooms, lessons, etc. At this time we have not been able to solidify an Equity Team. This is the kind of work this group can support. If anyone is interested in helping with this imperative work please let me know. The winners of the hottest room competition are: Marie Dunn, Morgan Novick and the fantastic EA Moira Koskey. I jest at the "competition" around this. Please know I will be sending these photos on to the district office. I will be sure to get the prizes out as soon as possible. This Friday, all K-5 science kits need to be ready for pick up. Please review this communication for pick up details. This year, K-5 educators are returning to the practice of using the Quarter 1 report card, rather than the conference form we have used for several years. Please read this m...
