Weekly Forecast - Week for April 1st-5th

Ramadan Continues, DEAD WEEK NO PLCS or Grade Level Team Meetings This Week Monday the 1st April Fools...be prepared Tuesday the 2nd Climate Team Meeting @ 8:15 SPECIAL SCHEDULE (See Below, MAP Test Schedule - Extended WIN Time) Staff Meeting @ 4:00 Wednesday the 3rd Leah Out @ Instructional Rounds until 12:30 LA Team PD in Library (All Day) Thursday the 4th March Attendance Drawing Friday the 5th No School- Grading Day I hope you all had a lot of rest and recovery. I find the best breaks provide time for relaxing, catching up with friends and family, having fun and of course catching up on things on the home front. I was able to do all but the later....sigh. I spent the first part of break in Palm Springs with my parents and sister. I was home for a day and then drove up to Seattle for Opening Day. Go Red Sox! We got home Saturday afternoon and I had a full house of guests for Easter.  I am thankful for the break and ready to get back to work! I find the rest of the year flies by....

Morning Minute for March 22nd

It is here...well just one day away. I want to thank you for being present this week and ensuring we held things steady. You are appreciated. Say good luck and farewell to Regina and Kojo tomorrow as they head out with our 8th grade Immersion students to Taiwan for their Capstone Residency trip. They have a very busy schedule with many learning tasks ahead of them. We will miss you and wish you safe travels. They will return to the building on April 9th.  Tomorrow spend some time creating your list for your return...trust me it will still be there when you come back. Make some notes about where you left off and things you don't want to forget. Spend a little time organizing your room. At 3:55 you all need to lock your classroom door and head out for rest and recovery.  The building will be closed during the break. I believe your badges will not work. Custodial staff will be onsite during the day.  I will be turning my phone off at 5:30 tomorrow and will check my tex...

Morning Minute for March 21st

Two more days before rest and recovery mode begins. Please take some time to look at your task list and scratch a few things off. I plan on hunkering down tomorrow night for a few hours to hyper focus. You are almost there! There are t-Shirt Flyers in Advisory boxes. Please send these home tomorrow or Friday. The PPS Racial Equity and Social Justice (RESJ) team is excited to offer an in person RESJ training. This   training will specifically focus on racial equity themes and is for PAT educators. Please know that space is limited (40 participants per session) and at this time we are prioritizing classroom teachers. The training will be available on multiple days at the following dates and times:  April 17th 8:30-11:30 @ PEC- Mazama-  Option 1 April 24th 8:30-11:30 @ PEC-Mazama-  Option 2 May 7th 8:30-11:30 @ PEC- Mazama-   Option 3 May 14th 8:30-11:30 @ Rice Gym  6433 NE Tillamook St, Portland, OR 97213-  Option 4 May 21st 8:30-11:30 @...

Morning Minute for March 20th

The sun is making it hard to focus....at least it is for me. A reminder to keep looking at your "count down to Spring Break" task list and check a few things off tomorrow. The goal is to have the big ones that weigh you down crossed off so you can focus on rest and recovery. Spend a few minutes tomorrow going through your piles and organizing them a bit. Purge the excess! Take those errant books back to the library.  In case you missed it Heather Cooper was the winner of the drawing for Blazer tickets to tomorrow night's game. Thank you for finishing up your training! A reminder that we will have our Lock Down drill at 2:20 tomorrow. Some of you are in new spaces since the last time we had this drill. Take a moment to determine what works best for your current space prior to the drill.   Please review the following with you class when they come to 6th period.  Students: Move to a place that is out of sight. Maintain silence.  Teachers: Move to classroom. L...

Morning Minute for March 19th

An email went out to those who have not reported their completion of the SEED Training. Please prioritize this before Advisory tomorrow   SEED Survey Training (PA1037) .   OSAS Training (PA1033 AND PA1034) should also be completed ASAP.  All Advisory teachers AND Advisory Partners have to be trained.    Those who have completed their training will be entered to win two tickets to Wednesday nights Blazer game against the LA Clippers.  Staff meeting tomorrow @ 4:00 in the library. Shut your classroom door and spend some time grading or planning for the remainder of the week during your planning time. No PLCs are running tomorrow so take some of your PLC period to review Advisory for the remainder of the week and then hyper focus on grading...focused time now may help to alleviate a big stack at the end of the week!

I am enjoying a relaxing Sunday morning with the sliding glass door open and the sun streaming in. I hope you were able to get some vitamin D these past two days.  Rest and Recovery is on it's way. In order to prepare for your nine days of R&R we will make an effort to give some pointers. For Monday, make a list of all the things you feel may weigh on you over the break. Identify one thing from said list you can cross off tomorrow. My list has: What has to be done and what I would like to be done. I know this list will never be 100% complete, but it will help me focus this week.   The Safety Committee met on Friday. We have n...

Morning Minute for March 8th

It was a smooth day (that is because I said Thursdays are the highest referral day). Happy Friday. May the day be as sunny as today.... Naima, Spencer and Regina will be out tomorrow. Just a heads up.  Zach will also be out in the PM. Please be vigilant about following the 10/10 rule and ensuring students have a pass upon returning and or leaving class.  Tomorrow the library will be used for ELPA testing.  The district is looking to retire some apps. Here is a form to give feedback. The window for feedback closes soon so be sure to fill it out soon.  https://docs.google.com/forms/ d/e/ 1FAIpQLSfJjMWUBb0Qvip6DhpuZxOH Vfwb1Ej_a1HVnM9Pb8KCcRNfsA/ viewform Thank you to those of you who parked in the main lot, or north of the main part of the building. Morning Minute for March 6th

It was brought to my attention this morning that this week is also School Social Workers Week. Thank you to Lindsay Alex our very own social worker. Her work with students and families is appreciated.đź’• If you stayed after for the Spring Fling please be sure to put in for your extended hour. All extended hours should be turned in to Shannon as soon as possible to ensure she can get them entered. Turing hours in is up to you!  I won't be out tomorrow morning as planned. The instructional rounds were changed until next Tuesday.  We are running into some issues after school in the front parking lot. Parents are unable to find a place to park in front of the school so are arriving around 3:30 (or earlier) and blocking the front parking lot. We are noticing several street spots out in front of the building are being taken up by staff (some are blocking mailboxes).  I realize it is a long walk from the main staff parking lot to the gym, but we are asking staff to avoid parking ...

Morning Minute for March 5th

The Climate Team reviewed referral data this morning and there is an  uptick in excessive talking that seems to be leading to mild defiance. The trend is most apparent in 6th and 7th grade students identified as male.  We will talk more about this tomorrow at our staff meeting. This would be a great place to begin using Panther Pay in class to promote those exhibiting appropriate levels of talking.  Budget cuts are real and it seems one of the most impacted departments is IT. We are preparing as best as we can for these shifts...no one will replace the amazing Kenneth and Brenda. We wanted to give us much advance notice as possible about Chromebook turn in. We will be having 6th graders turn in on June 3rd, 7th graders on June 4th and 8th graders on June 5th. Be aware we will not have carts available for use after the 5th either. ILT will be centering building grading, due dates, etc on the 14th. As of right now we are asking that everyone use April 3rd as the last d...
