Nightly News for June 13th- Final for the 2021-22 School Year!

As a reminder there are specific boxes to be used for packing up Lucy Caulkins curriculum. Please do not use these for any other purposes. These boxes should be placed outside your door (they are marked). Please do not mix them with other garbage/trash. If you have garbage/trash please make sure it is labeled as such. Finally, do not place items you are giving away outside of your room as they will also be placed in the trash/recycling.  Please avoid dumping things in the workroom. This is a communal space and no on is in charge of keeping it picked up. The office staff is out of the building on Friday due to construction and will not have time to take care of this.  The building will be open until 8:00 in the evenings through Thursday this week. Everyone should be out by this time. We are unsure of custodial schedules as they are short staffed, but believe they should be open until this time. The building will close at 6:00 on Friday so everyone needs to be out by then....

Weekly Forecast for June 13th-14th

Monday the 13th Workday 7:45-3:30 Tuesday the 14th Workday 7:45-3:30 ILCT Meeting 9:00-12:00 Staff Bon Voyage/Retirement Celebration 3:45-6:00 Thank you to EVERYONE who made yesterday safe and memorable for our students. The middle school team went all out to help send off students on a positive note. I saw so many smiles and happy kids. We also saw tears and anxious behaviors. Our kids are going to miss you! The building is open for the remainder of this week. Please note all employees should be out by 6:00 as the custodial hours shift for summer hours.  Access to the building is closed this Friday. Technically, access is supposed to end Wednesday, but I think that is a bit unreasonable. It is my understanding badges will be turned off and anyone working summer programming will need to put in a ticket with IT to have their badge turned on. This does not apply to HP since we do not have any summer programming this year. If for any reason you need access to your space during the sum...

Nightly News for June 9th

I sent an invite out to all staff today for our Bon Voyage/Retirement Celebration. We had a few irons in the fire and with weather being questionable, etc.  we finally settled on something a bit more interactive indoors. We will celebrate from 3:45-6:00 at Pips and Bounce, https://www.pipsandbounce.com/. It is located at: 833 SE Belmont St., 97214. Appetizers and play will be provided. Drinks will be no host. We will be celebrating our departing staff (those who are on to new adventures) and four retirees, David Molloy, Jerri Walker, Brian Swan and Carole Whitmore.  I hear there is a celebration directly after school tomorrow at the Sapphire Hotel, 5008 SE Hawthorne Blvd, Portland, OR 97215 PLEASE BE VIGILANT ABOUT SHUTTING DOORS. I shut three today that were propped open. We can not prop doors open for any reason. We had many parents in the building, who were signed in etc., but with events going on we have to be aware of guests etc. This is an easy way to increase secur...

Nightly News for June 8

It was a busy day. I saw lots of pizza delivered and celebrations were occurring around the building. Thank you for making the end of the year special for our kids.  We are certainly seeing some anxious kids. Summer is on the horizon and we know for some of our students this means a time of uncertainty. We all need to continue to breath and look for the positives.  Tomorrow is Field Day! We have deployed our ESL and Reading teachers and others out to help support throughout the day. Here is the schedule and more information:  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1mrlPzcglN7QEFqSm_-sIvi35Nr9KPDYF/edit?rtpof=true A reminder, especially tomorrow and Friday, to call the office if your class is going anywhere that is not in the regular schedule. Clearly, they are aware of Field Day and events that were booked (8th Grade Promotion, Metcalf Kinder Celeberation, Jenness/Yin Celebration), but any other events, etc need to be called in. We saw a steady stream of parents dropping thin...

Nightly News for June 7th

If you have e-waste , bring it to the SUN area. You will see a couple of pallets piled with old computers. Do not bring it to the tech room. This was shared in Teacher Connect. Please note that we have already began working to help support this initiative next year during the 15 minute grade level recess. Coach Schoene and Marchello are being given time to plan over the summer and put together resources for classroom teachers to use during their 15 Structured Movement Break next year. More info to follow in August. As part of our commitment to student health and wellness and our responsibility to follow through on our requirement to meet the state minutes for Physical Education, K-5 homeroom teachers will be providing students with at least 15 minutes weekly of structured movement during the 2022-23 school year. These additional minutes will be structured in such a way as to comply with OAR 581-022-2263 , PE Minutes Requirement. Currently, students in grades K-5 receive 90 minu...

Nightly News for June 6th

Apparently the dumpster was sent back today due to a concern about how much parking it would take. It will not be arriving until next Monday. That being said please hold on to your big purges until it's arrival. The one exception is our four retirees.  We had a staff meeting on our PD schedule that we put together prior to the start of the school year. It has come to our attention it is does not have an asterisk next to it on the district calendar and therefore this is not an official staff meeting day. Our plan for tomorrow was to go over any end of the year schedules and questions in regards to packing up rooms and leaving for the summer as well as recognizing staff who are leaving Harrison Park. We will make this meeting optional and will try to find another way to recognize staff. For those who have questions or want to go over the end of the year checklist/schedules we will meet at 3:30-approximately 3:45 in the Library.

Nightly News for June 1st

WOOOT we are all done with testing for the year. We reached 95% participation rate and are happy to move forward with a little more information to help us move students forward. Thank you to everyone who helped support this effort. A special thanks to Theresa! Staff please do not put giveaway items on the table in the workroom. This area is "no person land" and at some point will need to cleaned up by someone. We would like to avoid a major project at the end of the year when we will all be stretched for time. If you have items you would like people to take you are welcome to send a blurb to me and I will add it to the Nightly News. Heck we can even run a garage sale segment through the end of the year.  Thank you to those of you who have been communicating your end of year plans with me. I know it is a busy time of year. I look forward to the last two days of celebrating a tough year with the BEST staff and students. Please keep me up to date on what is going on I would love...
