I hope you all had a chance to get out and enjoy the weather on Saturday. It is amazing what a little vitamin D can do! Thank you for sending Jill off Friday. A special thank you to Karen for getting the cake and goodies.
- Tara's official first day is tomorrow! I know she is excited to get in and get to work. Tomorrow we will spend the day getting the lay of the land, schedules and catching up on the work that has been done up to now. Our plan is to have Tara "online" supporting K-4 (some 5th) two days a week and she will use the other two days for focused planning. On the days she is in focused planning I will be supporting K-4 students and staff. I will use her staff/student support days for my focused planning. We will flex and collaborate the last day. Clearly, we will communicate daily. One consistency will be that whoever is supporting staff/students will be using our office. The other person will be work elsewhere in the building. We will publish the schedule in the Nightly News. Welcome Tara!
- On Tuesday night we will be holding Kindergarten Connect and opening up Clark for families to visit. Staff is welcome to visit as well. Please note you are welcome to walk around campus and look into rooms etc. but classrooms will not be open etc. As I have mentioned there are a lot of feelings around the loss of Creative Science and I am being as mindful as possible. Tara will solidify room assignments soon. It is my understanding there are pictures of specific classrooms.
- We begin OSAS testing in earnest this week. Please be sure to remind students about the expectations in the hallways this week and express the need to be especially quiet when testing signs are up. Students should not be entering rooms where testing signs up and/or when students are taking the OSAS. Please be aware of this with Buddy rooms.
- On that note, I know there are different feelings around standardized testing. It is a state/district expectation and it does provide us with information on our student's progress and our progress. As a TSI school we will be under more scrutiny and we must make every effort to show growth. While the OSAS is not the only measure of our work it is one of them. Please encourage students to do their best and take their time. Be aware of the testing environment and ensure it is as supportive as possible for students to concentrate. Lets do this!
- When sending students out of class please be sure to send a pass. It is helpful to have information when a student arrives regarding why they have been sent out of class. Having a few some pre-made passes that I could add a couple of words to so that I didn't have to interrupt my instruction too much. Also, when sending a student to another adult in the building please be sure they are available. There have been a few situations when students were sent to adults without passes and the person they were being sent to wasn't available or the student could not identify where they were supposed to be going.
