Summer Forecast #3

I had ever intention of getting this out earlier this afternoon, but attended a memorial service for one of my husband's middle school teachers and it went on much longer than anticipated.  My husband was a wiley middle schooler who really needed mentorship. His PE teachers  Ron Hudson and Mike Reed took him under their wing and truly made a difference for him. When he graduated from college they attended a party we held and ultimately were the final push he needed to pursue his teaching certification. It was bittersweet to attend the memorial today for Coach Hudson. It was also a reminder of the real difference we can make in our student's lives.  I am looking forward to seeing some of you on Tuesday and all of you on Wednesday. Below are some details of what to expect this coming week.  There is a frenzied rush to get the building ready for student's next Tuesday. As went out in a previous email we understand several of you want to get into your rooms to ASAP to ge...

Summer Forecast #2

We were told after your departure that TSI (Targeted Support Intervention) schools will be given funding for an Professional Development on August 20th. This can not be mandatory per the PAT contract, but staff are encouraged to attend if possible. Staff will be paid extended hours if they attend. We will be holding this PD at McDaniel High School. Lunch will be provided. Our goal for this training is to give grade level teams time to collaborate for half of the day. The rest of the agenda will be planned in the next few weeks. I sent out Google Calendar invite. Please respond yes if you can attend so we can use it for a head count for lunch. If you have any questions please reach out.   Construction Update- I have been in several times this summer and it feels like things are moving slowly on the construction front. There were several unforeseen issues that required additional permits etc. For example, the work on the front parking lot started on the Wednesday after you all l...

Summer Forecast #1

It is hard to believe that you all left for vacation 24 days ago. I hope you are embracing the sun (okay it has been tooooo hot for me) and are enjoying your well deserved time off. I absolutely do not expect you to read this Forecast, but in an effort to meet the needs of those people who like updates I am sending it out. If you are one of those seeing this in August before we return that is fine! I went into the building this week. Progress has been made in the Special Education wing and the back three classrooms. LOTS of demolition has happened. The power is out today as they are pulling wires. I am trying to be optimistic. There were A LOT of people working so that is good news, but there is a long way to go. On the topic of facilities, I was told that the furniture is on backorder. This means those of you who had old furniture will not get new furniture until December. Some pieces may be coming in, but as of right now old furniture will be used for a portion of the year.  We h...

Morning Minute for June 18th

We are thinking of doing a staff Canvas Page that would house all the our information/links. The question is would you use it? Please feel free to send any feedback to Regina who will be the point person on this. I did not send out the official district notification on the building being closed, but I am sure you are already aware it won't be accessible this summer. If today was any indication it will be loud and unbearable.  I plan on sending three updates over the summer. Again, you are under no expectation to read them until your return. For those of you wanting to get into the building early, this is where I will share information.  As we will be working out of the building over the summer, we will be updating our calendars to show days we will be actually on vacation, versus days we will be working offsite. You are welcome to contact us by phone or email if you need to.  Enjoy your summer. Relax. Rest. Rejuvenate. Recover. We are thankful for your work this yea...

We had a large group of kids who just didn't want to leave. When I pulled out a little after 5:00 they were still hanging around the neighborhood. We must have done something right this year! Thank you Amanda for sharing this picture.  The front parking lot will be closed Monday for the duration of the summer. Staff will need to park in the main parking lot near the cafeteria.  Monday and Tuesday are workdays. Please use this time to submit grades, pack and wrap up any loose ends. Please note that you need to sign out with Spencer, Regina or me prior to leaving for the summer. As you are being paid for both days the expectation is for staff to be here. If you are able to wrap up early please put in the appropriate time with Shannon.  Grades are due on the 18th. Please be sure to double check ...

Morning Minute for June 13th

Some staff have shared they may be ready to check out as early as Friday afternoon. I know a few people had medical procedures scheduled etc. As a reminder Monday and Tuesday are contractual days. If you are checking out early you will need to put in the appropriate short leave form. No need to put in for a sub.  There was a late request for students to support at Clark's Field Day tomorrow. I had a list of 7th graders who attended Harrison Park for most of their K-5 experience and asked several of them if they would like to support. Those attending will leave class at 11:45, eat lunch and then head over to Clark. They will return by 3:00 for the assembly.  We will mark them out if they actually attend tomorrow. These students may attend:  Athena Branch, Michael Knight, Alex Leedle, Nogc Tran, Itiel Orozco, Aireauna Taylor, Jackson Whipple, Aisha Awow.  We are on a PM Assembly schedule tomorrow. Once we have the rows for 8th graders to sit in we will get a map o...
