Morning Minute for April 10th

Today's fire alarm was brought to you by a guy on a ladder that got to close to a sensor. The timing could have been worse... With that being said we are now done with our fire drill for April. It was great to have Regina and Kojo back (Bee has been back a few days). I am sure they are both exhausted and are counting down the minutes until the weekend. Welcome back.  I will be out tomorrow until around 12:00 or 12:30 for a last minute district meeting.

Morning Minute for April 9th

Thursday night's Talent Show is cancelled. Students reported they had track and other commitments and were largely interested in performing for their peers. We will continue with rehearsals and the Friday afternoon assembly. Thank you Dani for sharing our student's work with Portland! Dani sent out an email earlier today to let us know that Shay, Mari, Willow and Elijah will be featured at the HeArt of Portland Showcase next week. We appreciate your work with our students.  I failed to mention the garden clean up this Saturday from 10-1 in our school garden. Join us for some fun.  As a reminder here is the info on pulling kids out of class:  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HZ5jm85z6LtYWwPNY6WH0QfIi-SvjdomxzddFhBo1qo/edit?usp=sharing

It would have been great to spend the day in the building, but I do appreciate Leadership on non student days. My Sundays have been off for a few weeks and my usual routine of waking up and working while the house is quiet isn't happening. I am finally sitting down to do some work this afternoon.  There will be a few student shifts, but they are minute. Please be vigilant about taking attendance. If a student does not appear on your attendance please send them to the office. We will not be handing out schedules tomorrow, but will have them available for 6th grade only due to wheel shifts.  Regina, Kojo and our MIP students return on Tuesday. We are excited to hea...

Morning Minute for April 5th

Last day for T Shirt orders is tomorrow. See Shannon if you have any questions. We discussed 3rd quarter grades at staff meeting on Tuesday. As a reminder letter grades should  be given. The exception would be Intervention classes (study skills/math/reading) where a Pass/No Pass is appropriate. For students receiving Fs/Ds specific comments should be entered as to the reason. "Student was given multiple opportunities to retake tests". Spencer and I are at Leadership tomorrow. Please text or email with any questions.

Morning Minute for April 4th

Last day of quarter three!   As was shared there was an earthquake in Taiwan that impacted our MIP students. I had minimal communication with Regina last night. I do know students, parent chaperones, Kojo and her are okay (Ms.Bee too). It was definitely an experience they will remember and was scary for a few students (other students shared this with me). All is well and we are looking forward to their return. They should be back in the building Tuesday.  I want to acknowledge Spencer and Regina as it is National VP/AP Appreciation Week. I am thankful for their support and the additions they have brought to Harrison Park. I continue to learn from each of them.  A reminder of Chromebook collection dates:  6th Grade- Mon, June 3 7th Grade- Tues, June 4 8th Grade- Wed, June 5 There are posters in the library that explain how to powerwash. Also remember to c heck Google Chat at least once per day (just like email) and m any tech training opportunities are PAID. Pl...

How could it be improved? Any other input. Your choice for next year’s SE Curriculum Staff members who use the staff room to make sure they are cleaning up after themselves. Please be sure to clean up microwave spills, throw away garbage etc. Custodians will be improving work around floors, counters, etc. We are going to be looking into a schedule for staff who use the space to help with some minor cleaning (i.e. refrigerator and microwave).  I will be at Sellwood for Instructional Rounds. I should be back around noon. The counselors will also be out until around 11:00. Finally, our LA team will be out  as well. They should have substitutes, but just a heads up.
