It is a quiet Sunday morning at my house. I am hoping to get some things done before heading out to our annual Superbowl/Baseball Family Reunion. I know many people had New Year plans and others were gearing up for the Superbowl. I hope your festivities are full of good food and laughter

I was able to watch our 8th graders perform at Woodstock for a large Lunar New Year celebration and fundraiser on Friday night. They were excited to see Kojo! One of the students said, "We are soaking in nostalgia." Kids, I tell ya.

This week we don't have assembly planned or anything that disrupts the schedule however, I do anticipate Wednesday will provide us with many displays of middle school romantic rituals. I have to sigh and chuckle. Most of what we will see is developmentally appropriate. Keep your eyes peeled for tears or heartbreak and some disappointment. Be prepared to provide some extra attention to those who need it.

  • I will be out until possibly noon tomorrow for staffing at the PESC and will be leaving again at 3:00 for a personal appointment. I will also be out Friday starting around noon through the end of the day for a scheduling session at the PESC. We will go over staffing information on Tuesday at our staff meeting. The next two weeks this will be a major focus of my time. Sorry in advance.
  • We had two fights this week. Prior to this I think we had three. Friday's fight was largely verbal and with a lot of physical posturing, but it was still a major disturbance. We clearly see a pattern in that both occurred on the way in from lunch/recess. Support staff is all online during lunch/recess and as a result are following the crowd in. We will be shifting at least one person to the main hallway near the double doors to catch anything amiss. With that being said, please be sure to be at your doors during this time Recess/Lunch are always epicenters of discontent.
  • Tuesday the 13th.  McDaniel presentations and kick off the start of  forecasting.  McDaniel counselors will be in each of the 8th grade classrooms starting at 12:30 (the beginning of 5th period) to approximately 1:30.
Also, 1st period on Friday the 16th, all 8th grade classes will be starting in the auditorium, or the cafeteria, for question/answer sessions with current McDaniel high school students.  We will let you know which room we will start in later in the week. Teachers will do attendance prior to heading to these sessions. Counselors will provide a highlighted list of students who will be participating. If you have questions please let Ruth or Michelle know.

  • From the Counselors: Tier 1 curriculum topics survey for teachers- We are planning for our advisory and push-in lessons for the rest of the year and would LOVE your feedback to help guide us in what we should prioritize. This is a very very short survey, so please help us out when you have a second. Thank you!

  •  Conni Brenner sent out an email on Candy Grams.  This bears repeating: Please do not hand out until Advisory time right before lunch on Wednesday.  It may be good to hand them out after the short circle activity in Advisory so kids can focus on circle time ;).
