Where did last week go? It seemed to fly by. I want to thank Regina and Brenda for their work over the past month. They have worked tirelessly applying for a very large Verizon Innovations Grant that would be a game changer for our STEAM and Technology programs. It has been a frustrating process and we are not at the finish line. In fact, we may not be able to complete the application....long story. A year ago we would have not had the capacity to focus on something of this nature. We are growing and moving forward because of all of our contributions to this team.
- Instructions for online/virtual conferences were sent out previously but will be sent out again tomorrow (Monday). In the event of any issues or problems please use Admin's cell phone numbers. I will be located in the front office from 4:30-7:15 in the event parents call or staff needs support.
- Naima will be available in the office from 8:00-4:30 tomorrow for issues or questions around grades. Please communicate with her once your grades are completed so she can check to make sure there are no issues. I am aware that the actual due date for grades is midnight on Tuesday, but we have worked with building PAT reps and offered support to ensure everyone can complete them by Tuesday morning so we can move forward with schedule changes. PLEASE let me know as soon as possible if this will not be the case.
- A note on the above. I just became aware of some Canvas issues a few people are having that may impact grading. In the event we have more snafus and we can not finalize grades on Tuesday morning this will delay our ability to change schedules. IF that occurs we will need to review our plans for the week and we may not be able to make schedule changes until Wednesday/Thursday. Clearly this will impact our ability to fully start Quarter 3. Fingers crossed.
- Regina, Spencer and I will be at Grant High School all day tomorrow for Leadership. We will be available by phone or email.
- Tuesday the 30th dance, choir and band students may be called out of classes for rehearsal. Joel and Bobbi will share lists with Naima and we will share out lists with staff tomorrow.
- Counselors, Admin and Thersa will be working vigilantly on Tuesday to make schedule changes. Our plan is to complete this task by staff meeting time so we can have schedules printed and ready for student distribution on Wednesday morning. We will talk more about the beginning of Second Semester on Tuesday at staff meeting, but all staff should be prepared to see shifts in their classes. On that note, we ask that you spend time reviewing your class expectations, break spaces, grading practices (syllabus review advised) on Wednesday. This will set students new to your class up for success and is a great reminder to all students as we enter the second half of the year.
- Thursday we will be running on an AM Assembly schedule. Students will attend the assembly with their 2nd period teacher. District representatives will also be in the building in the afternoon for HMH (Language Arts) and MSM (Math) walkthroughs.
- A parent who works closely with Jade District initiatives reached out to ask if Harrison Park would like to have a table at a community event on Sunday March 2nd. I have agreed to be at the table for the duration of the event (12-3). If anyone is interested in selling items students have created, etc. let me know.
- Wednesday the counselors, Dan, and me will be out at a SIT training all day. If anyone would like to support in handing out student schedules at 9:00 please let me know.
- Theresa will send out information on PLCs for this week.
- Tardy Detention will be in Georgie’s room for 7th and 8th graders. Students are to get their lunch and report to the detention room. They will eat lunch in the classroom and stay there until the bell rings to transition to 6th period. Dan will be managing that space and set expectations for the detention room. 6th grade lunch detention takes place in the cafeteria with Admin (Leah or Regina).
