As December hits weekends tend to busy. I am just now sitting down to do the Weekly Forecast. I had my "Baseball Mom" Cookie exchange this morning and my traditional Sunday routine was upended. I am not sure why they keep inviting me because I am definitely not a baker! I hope your weekend allowed you time to relax and catch up.
- Midterms were supposed to be due at the end of this week, but will be rescheduled. I have not heard of the new date yet.
- We do have staff meeting this week. We will meet in the library at 4:00 sharp. We will discuss lockers, lanyards and Winter Carnival.
- From Conni: We sold over 700 Kindness Grams over the last week. Although there was an interruption due to the strike, it was a success. Just wait til' Valentine's Day!!! Leadership will finish "candying" them Monday. We will deliver them to you sometime Monday in a manilla envelope. Please note the following:
- All students will get one gram from the PTA. They will not have individual names on them. They are at the bottom of the envelope and are golden yellow. There should be enough for one per student. Please let me know if you are short, we have extras.
- There will also be a ziploc bag with ones to be given to students individually. Those have names on them and were purchased by students for students. If a student is no longer in your Advisory class, put it in my box and I will make sure it gets to the appropriate person.
- Lastly, please wait until you see a slide in the Advisory slide deck prompting you to pass them out so all students get them the same day. It should be either Tuesday or Wednesday depending on what is to be done in Advisory this week.
- I have several meetings/trainings out of the building this week. I will be at a SIT training all day Wednesday, Leadership @ Jackson Middle School all day Thursday and a Jade District community meeting for a few hours on Friday.
- Boxes arrive for those who are moving soon. We may put a meeting on the schedule later this week for those impacted by the move. On that note, I am advocating to have students start on January 3rd to allow us one day to unpack rooms and prepare for some large shifts the opening of our new "wing" will create. We will talk more about this Tuesday.
- We have limited locks for sale in the office. Students can come to purchase them before school or after school. Please avoid sending students during Advisory as there is limited coverage in the office at this time.
- ILT met on Thursday and we landed on conference dates. I shared these out last week, but people may have missed them. We will hold conferences on January 10th, 11th, 16th and 17th from 4:30-7:30. These will take place after a full day of teaching. Please plan accordingly.
- We hope to get Affinity Groups running this week. We currently are looking for a staff member to lead our Black Student Affinity Group and Arab Student Affinity Group. Regina will be leading our Asian Student Affinity Group, but hopes to co-lead. We also anticipate students may want to break themselves into smaller groups. This is something new to Harrison Park and may take some time to grow. If you are interested in leading a group a small stipend is being offered. Students will opt into groups. We ask 7th and 8th grade Advisory teachers to announce that the specific group is meeting that day. If students opt to go, please allow them to do so. We will work on a pass system once we gauge interest. Students who opt in should leave class at 1:16 and head to the cafeteria to grab their lunch. We will supervise and direct them from there.
