Friday the 6th

I hope your weekend was all that you needed. I was able to have dinner with friends on Friday evening and spent all day Saturday rearranging the basement. My Sunday is off as I have been having a hard time logging into my email. Let's hope I can get this sent out!

  • We want to welcome a delegation from Taiwan, in partnership wtih PSU, on Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday our visitors will spend their time in Kojo and Bee's MIP classrooms. Wednesday, they have asked to visit other classes in the building. I sent a draft schedule out on Friday and will share it out with everyone tomorrow or Tuesday at the latest. We are happy to host this group and share our fantastic teachers and students with them.
  • I put this out last week, but didn't hear back from anyone. Tomorrow we will be bringing about 17 sleeping bags down to the lobby towards the end of the day. These are for students to use at Outdoor School. We have had several requests from students for sleeping bags. Since they have been stored near the construction zone since last spring and could use a wash. If you have the ability taking one home to wash would be appreciated.
  • A reminder that goals are due next Friday the 13th (this is a none student day whew). This will be discussed a bit in PLCs.   Additionally, remember that all online trainings need to be done by October 31st. There will be no staff meeting on this day to allow for the second staff meeting time, per the contract, for attention to these training. We also provided some time prior to the start of school.
  • On the subject of Friday the 13th, all PAT members at TSI/CSI schools are expected to attend district PD. There is a wide assortment of trainings being offered on this day. Extended pay has already been added to your contract, from what I understand. If you do now attend you need to fill out a short leave form.  Offerings are posted in Pepper. Correction: This information was shared with me by another TSI/CSI principal. I have asked for clarification around this and will continue to do so. The above very will may not be the case. What we do know is TSI/CSI PAT members should attend and you will be compensated. I will share more information as I get clarification.
  • A quick reminder that all classroom teachers have the ability to send out messages to families/parents via REMIND. This application translates into many languages so it is a great resource to update your scholar's families about things going on in your classroom.
  • Tuesday's staff meeting will be time for grade level teams to meet. A few items will be on the agenda for teams to discuss. These include: regular grade level team meeting time, lockers, and conferences. This meeting will take place at the regular staff time of 4:00 to ensure that everyone is able to access the meetings. 6th Grade will meet in Heather Cooper's room, 7th Grade in Mattthew Brandt Lazar's room , and 8th Grade in Mike Benson's room. I will put out room numbers in Monday's communication.  For elective, ESL, MIP, Intervention, Special Education staff members we ask that you attend the meeting where you seem to have the majority of students and/or you are feeling the biggest need to communicate with CORE teachers. I know some specialists may have district training, but it is my understanding those begin at 4:30 so this will allow you to participate for at least half an hour. PAT will meet at 4:45-5:00 and the last half hour is for staff to work on Sub Folders.
  • Wednesday we will be on a late start schedule. We will begin our PD @ 8:15 and finish up at 10:15. 8th grade Kid Chat will take place from 10:20-11:00. Please feel free to bring something to share for a potluck brunch. Food will be in the cafeteria and we will most likely use this space for our PD as well.
  • Across the district we are hearing reports of 6th graders being a bit wily. This is no different here at HP. We will be reviewing expectations around hallway, lunch and cafeteria behaviors on Tuesday during Advisory.
  • Hiring update: We still have two positions open. We will finish up inteviews for our Reading Intervention teacher this week. We do have a candidate for our .50 SPED position, but they are not able to begin working until after the 15th of October. Finally, we were able to find a math licensed temporary teacher to take over Claire Flangagan's classes while she is on Maternity Leave. Kenneth Smith will be joining us from Walla Walla Public Schools. He is moving here with his family and will begin after the 16th.
