Dead Week Begins


Fall weekends get busy. I had a morning commitment and didn't get the Weekly Forecast done before I needed to leave. This afternoon some family was in town and I sat down to do some work a bit before 5:00. Whew. Remember tomorrow is dress like a teacher day. We are planning to dress like a student. I do ask you are careful of being too specific (i.e. aren't matching a specific student and unintentionally causing harm).



  • As mentioned a few weeks ago, one of the few requirements we have as a VILS school is that teachers complete a technology survey twice a year. 

"The survey results provide essential information about current teacher use and perceptions of technology. The results of this survey can be used to identify professional development needs and inform coaching efforts."

It should not take more than 15 minutes to complete, and probably will take even less. Please complete the survey before the end of the day on Friday, October 27. We ask you your PLC flex day to complete. 


  • A reminder we will be viewing Screeangers through Advisory this week. Teachers please take attendance 4th period and then head to the auditorium with your class. We ask you sit with your class for the entire viewing. The student version of the movie is 46 minutes and some potential discussion may take place upon completion. 
  • Our staff meeting will be for all PAT and staff required to attend on Tuesdays. We will begin at 4:00 in Georgie's room 158. 

  • A reminder social media is very searchable/viewable. There have been several reports of students searching teachers/staff names and sharing, posting images, tweets, etc. The district has laid out policies around social media and staff, but this largely focuses on ensuring staff are not "friends" or associating with students on non-school/districts sites and platforms.  Personal posts are generally protected.  Please be aware students may potentially see your posts etc. even if you are not friends/associated with them. It is STRONGLY suggested you use stringent privacy settings and closely monitor your presence.  We were aware of accounts students have used to post comments on staff members last year and Coach Carpenter spent many hours reporting this to said accounts. 
  • We would love to have extra eyes and ears at our Activity Day this Thursday. Hours run 4:00-5:15 with a little clean up after. People able to support feel free to swap some time from Friday morning and come in by 9:00. 
  • We are working on ironing out details about locker usage. Our goal is to begin using lockers on the first day of the new term, November 6th. Many more details to come.

Nightly News for Wednesday the 9th

Tomorrow is what may be our last Apple Harvest. This event begins at 5:00 and runs until 7:00. Valerie, Elin and Ron have spent time organizing and we are hoping for a great turn out. All staff are welcome to come and support!  We are looking for a paper cutter. Daniela currently has one in the art room that is hardly functioning. It needs to be retired. I am reaching out in hopes of finding one in the building that is stuffed in a closet or drawer somewhere and could be given to our art room for daily use before  we purchase a new one. Please let her, or me know if you have one you are willing to part with.  Just an FYI I was in meetings pretty much all day. I am behind in responding to emails and will work on this tomorrow as I can and over the weekend.

Nightly News for November 1st

Please note that Shannon, or I,  cannot use the P-Card to make purchases on anyone's personal accounts. For example if you wanted to order something from Home Depot we could not have you send us your link and pay for it using the P-Card. All purchases have to be made on a Harrison Parks specific account OR the employee can pay for it and be reimbursed .   MS Arts Performance 3-5 Assembly 2:30-3:00 tomorrow. Be sure to review the expectations. As a reminder Emily is out tomorrow.

Morning Minute for September 22nd

  Thank you for everyone pitching in today. Three appointments checked off the list! I will be in all day Friday. I heard our 6th graders were a bit active yesterday. Thank you Zach for your excellent heads up.  We have our 6th Grade Mixer today (Friday) from 4:00-5:00. We are unable to offer extended pay, but I am sure if you stay to support you will have plenty of fodder for the weekend. I love Middle School socials. This event takes place from 4:00-5:00.  If you have a student needing translation of a text on their Chromebook try the Snap and Read Extension.  You can use Snap and Read. You can use this to read aloud to a student  1. Turn On Snap and Read - If you can't see it click puzzle piece and click the pin next to it. 2. Go to Options 3. On the left you can choose the read aloud language on the right choose the print change language 4. Highlight the print  5. For read aloud press the Speaker for print change press the Letter A button
