Thank you all for a solid first week. We had a few hiccups here and there,  but overall I think everyone deserves a pat on the back. Nice work team!

I hope you were all able to decompress and relax this weekend. I used to be highly annoyed by the fact that we started school before Labor Day, but as I was telling Kojo I have actually come to appreciate the fact we have an exhausting busy week and then we get a three day weekend to revive ourselves. This next week we are on a normal schedule and can settle in.

I enjoyed a celebratory back to school dinner with my main squeeze on Friday, a visit with my brother's family who were camping at Maryhill on Saturday, organizing/grocery shopping on Sunday. We had baseball families over for a BBQ on Sunday and today I am going to work on some things and relax. My dogs are showing me how.

  • This is a link to a short Google Form to provide us with feedback for the last two weeks. It will not collect email addresses. We want to make sure we use this to help us plan moving forward Feedback. Thank you in advance.
  • We are going to make a shift in lunch/recess for all grades tomorrow. We saw  our entire 6th grade can easily fit into the cafeteria and feel it will cut down on the number needed for duty and allow those who want more time to eat options. Bottom line 6th grade Advisory teachers send all kids to lunch first. 7th and 8th teachers students can make a decision. Information will be added to Advisory slides. Please be aware we may make some small changes throughout the week. We will keep you posted if this is the case.
  • Tomorrow (Tuesday) there is not a staff meeting, however PAT members are asked to use from 4:00-5:15 for mandatory online trainings in Pepper.  You are welcome to do these trainings onsite or at home. If you need support on signing up for these please let Regina, Spencer or I know.
  • We anticipate some students who have not shown up yet to come in tomorrow. We also typically see new students register after Labor Day. We will begin looking at class sizes and do some balancing as we can. Please know that there are some schedules that are pretty set (i.e. a student who in MIP, ESL, etc.). Again, we will do our best.
  • On that note please be sure you are vigilant about taking attendance and being very thorough. We had some students who were here last week marked absent for several periods. This is especially important as we begin to determine who may not be coming to us. Naima will begin making reminder calls to teachers this week for those who do not have attendance completed.
  • Reminder (Advisory Teachers): When first day packet forms come back from students please collect those in the large envelope provided and check off students on the class list that returned them.  You can then turn in the envelope to the office on Sept 11th. We will be reaching out to families that didn't turn in forms after Sept 11th.  We have had some forms coming in already, but it will make it easier to track them if you hold on to them until the 11th and turn them in as a "batch".

  • From Conni: The September Advisory slide deck  is in the HP Shared Drive now.  This is the one we will begin using tomorrow, September 5th.  It is in the AVID folder under Advisory.  Please note the following:
-There are two separate slide decks.  One for 6th grade and one for 7/8th grades.  There are two folders that are marked accordingly in the Advisory folder .  We will have separate ones to allow some different work for 6th graders getting used to middle school.  They will be combined later in the school year.

-Please also know the decks are always a work in progress and so it is important for you to refresh each morning as things may be added last minute in regards to announcements, etc.

-There are, at times, a handout or two you may need for some activities or some materials for SEL lessons.  We will do our best to get them to you in an ample amount of time but please always check your box each morning.

-Advisory is scheduled at the end of class and that only matters on WIN days and for 6th grade when WEB is coming to help.  So if you would like to flex it to the beginning of your class period to suit your style or what works best for the class you are most welcome to do that, per Leah, except for the days mentioned above.

We always welcome suggestions or comments to make Advisory better.

  • I have a personal appointment and will be leaving around 3:15 tomorrow. As a heads up I may potentially be out on Friday the entire day as my daughter is returning Thursday night and is having her wisdom teeth removed on Friday. Of course she doesn't do anything easily and her removal is pretty extensive. I will know more on Thursday about the time frame.
