- Zach Vestal, our ISS, will be delivering sub binders this week. He has been checking in with people to determine who needs them etc. If you do not have a sub binder he will hook you up. On that note, shout out to Georgie Steeves and Heather Cooper who had some solid sub plans this week (a little birdie shared this with me).
- Unfortunately, we will not be able to provide options for our staff meeting this week and will meet after school. Several of our staff members have specific online meetings to attend as well (these take place after school). We will go over information about Advisory check ins (first one to take place this Friday), AVID note taking strategies, and grade level team info. The last 15 minutes will be for PAT. We will meet in the library and begin at 4:00 sharp.
- In our inaugural year we are working through training and usage of our WEB students. We will build better systems, communications, etc. as we learn and grow. A heads up that some of our WEB student leaders may be called out of class on occasion to conference with students they are mentoring. This should not happen often, but we wanted to make sure you are aware. If this is the case they will have the proper pass, or an adult will come to get them.
- We are holding a 6th Grade Mixer this Friday the 22nd from 4:00-5:00. Most of these activities will take place in the cafeteria, library area of the building. This is optional for our 6th grade students. WEB students will be supporting as well. Any staff who would like to stay and support are welcome. We are not able to provide extended support for this event, but can flex time on Friday morning (i.e you come in by 9:00 on Friday). If you would like to host/run an activity let Dan Carpenter know.
- Map Testing will take place on September 25-28. The schedule is listed on the "Testing" tab here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1LV5E9P-fxg8rTCD8F9vM6mpgY-J9ti_uxLiKtIXTj7Y/edit?usp=sharing . Please be mindful of this as you plan for the week.
- This adjusted schedule affects everyone! Classes, lunches, duties, so on will all be different for 4 days.
- We will test in 4th period classes. Testing Reading first and then Math.
- To log into NWEA MAP you need to use the PPS site - https://pps-admin.mapnwea.org/admin/ (bookmark it)
- NWEA MAP looks different this year. Log in at least 1 time prior to testing.
- If you have never tested before Pepper course PA1031 is an intro to NWEA MAP
- Friday 9/22 at 8:20 Theresa will host an optional meeting on how to create and operate test sessions in room 136.
- If you don't have a class 4th period you may be asked to help with testing in another class.
- If you would like a 2nd adult in your room during testing email Theresa as soon as possible so we can organize.
- Conni may add slides to Advisory on test taking but, math and lang. arts teachers may also want to discuss with classes.
- There will be no Advisory on testing days.
- Members of the Office of Teaching and Learning will be visiting Harrison Park this Friday. We may visit classrooms etc. They plan on stopping by around 1:00.
- SUN begins next Monday but we wanted to communicate out early. I will share with people directly if your classroom is being used for after school programming. As our community partners and SUN programs begin serving students we will have more activity in the building after school. Our current protocol is kids need to leave campus when the buses leave unless they are waiting to be picked up. As a reminder if you have a student staying after school for any reason we would like you to let the office know. This helps us locate students in the event a frantic parent calls looking for their scholar. Scholars remaining after school need to be under the supervision of an adult. If they are not with an adult you should ask them to leave or alert the office/administrator to help facilitate this. The office closes at 4:30. Herk leaves at 4:30 as well. Regina, Spencer and I will be taking turns remaining in the building until all after school programming ends @ 5:30. Starting next week we will post on the office door who the administrator on duty is
- Friday 9/29 - Orange Shirt Day - National Day of Truth and Reckoning (Holiday in Canada and recognized in many parts of US) actual day 9/30
- We will not have advisory in the week going up to 9/29 so here's a bit of information to share with students if you can.
- Leadership will put up signage about participating in Nat'l Day of Truth and Reckoning - also known as Orange Shirt Day.
- In Advisory on 9/29 we'll have a short video about it
- This is a day that we consider indigenous communities - recognizing and honoring the survivors and those lost, along with their families and communities in the residential school systems.
