Morning Minute for September 7th (Okay it is more like 5 Minutes This Time)
- If your classroom is being distracted by the noise level due to construction please let Leah know. The contractors do their best to have loud work completed by 9:00 when students arrive, but in the event it is a distraction we need to communicate this.
- Lunches/recess are going well. We will continue to fine tune release and coverage throughout this week. One thing we would like to ask is that those teaching 6th graders during their 5th period class try to keep students in class as much as possible. This is a 45 minute class right after lunch. Students should not be hungry, used the restroom and filled water bottles etc. prior to coming to class. Clearly, there are cases where a student will need to leave class, but we want to cut down on 6th graders being out at this time as much as possible. In an effort to be proactive, training them now that they won't be allowed out during 5th period, except in rare cases, will alleviate issues later on as the 6th graders turn into "true middle schoolers" We can for-see bathroom meetups etc. in our future. Along the same lines, 7th/8th grade 5th period teachers should avoid sending students out during their class during 12:47-1:18. If we are following the 10/10 rule this means students could be leaving class from 12:41-12:47. Again, we know emergencies will arise, but normalizing patience and the fact that they will have access to bathrooms, food, etc. when they head to lunch will help us out immensely in the future.
- For clarity we wanted to share a few things around coverage in the event staff needs to leave early, arrive late, etc. We realize that you may need to get to an appointment right after school and need to leave at 3:30 to do so. On the other end you may need to arrive 15 minutes late and need coverage. In some cases putting in for a half day sub isn't really needed (but be aware it is the district protocol). If this is the case please let an administrator know and find a peer who can cover for you. Please let the administrator know who will be covering your class and report your time to Shannon. If coverage is needed for more than one period (i.e. it begins halfway through 6th and goes into 8th) you absolutely will need to put in for a half day sub. In the event our SSI Zach Vestal is not being used he will most likely be able cover your class and the peer you asked will be released. Please note we can not have Zach be our go to for this type of thing as he will be covering classes throughout the year and we can never plan for his use. We know appointments, etc. come up and are unavoidable and our hope is we can work together on these types of situations. If issues around coverage arise or other problems begin to crop up we will have to default to putting in for a substitute in all situations.
- To clarify on staff meeting. Hours on Tuesdays for PAT members staff are technically from 8:15-5:30. We are running our AM PD from 8:00-9:08. Our afternoon one will run from 4:00-5:08 (to keep both times at one hour and eight minutes). We can not run our morning session until 9:15 because of student arrival and didn't want to have people come in at 7:45....yikes. That being said PAT is technically on the clock until 5:30 on Tuesdays. In the event we can't run two sessions we could meet until 5:30 on Tuesdays. If you have any questions around this please talk to Leah or Georgie.
- On that note a reminder that next Tuesday is our Back to School/Open House. We are working on the details now. Please respond to the email Spencer sent out so we can firm up what our plans are. Conni is working on a slide to share with families. We will absolutely send out more details in the next few days. I am going to ask staff to wear their HP shirts that evening.
- Advisory Partners. Sorry for not communicating this out earlier. Spencer had it ready to go, but I failed to share out. We will share out information to partner pairs shortly.
- We mentioned this back in our PD week, but wanted to remind staff our hope is everyone is out of the building by 6:00. If you are staying beyond that please locate a custodian and let them know you are in the building and the approximate time of your departure. If you find the parking lot has been chained please take a moment to get out of your car and check to see if it is indeed locked. Custodians often chain the lots to keep people from parking in them after hours, but do not lock the chains. In most cases all you need to do is put the chain down, drive through and then replace it.
- In case you missed it our school health assistant, Kelly is located in an office in the library. If you are sending a student to her please write a pass for the student needing assistance only. In most cases students do not need a friend/escort. If there is a major injury that requires an escort you may want to call ahead to alert Kelly and she will come to you. Basically, students should be able to manage this visit solo.
- I will be out from approximately 10:40-12:30 tomorrow.
