Morning Minute for Wednesday the 30th
Whew! Thank you to everyone who helped make today successful. We had a few wrinkles to iron out along the way, but overall the day went smoothly. Board Members Eddie Wang and Julia Brim Edwards, Regional Superintendent Margaret Calvert and Senior Director Chris Fraiser, as well as a few other district staff , very pleased to see our student leaders in action. They also commented on your enthusiasm, flexibility and composure in the construction chaos. A special thank you to Coach Carpenter for his work and vision with WEB. I also want to thank Natalie and Lalelia for stepping in and supporting wherever help was needed. Your work is appreciated!
- If you can wear red and/or navy tomorrow. Thursday is red day and heck Friday you can wear your favorite color. Thank you for wearing your shirts today. We will plan on wearing them once a week...day to be determined.
- Please be sure to access all the slides/info for tomorrow FirstDaysSlides or FirstWeekPeriodByPeriodSchedule (we have different preferences on how people want things accessed. PLEASE let Spencer or Regina know ASAP if you do not have a working tech cart/projector in your space to show for slides tomorrow.
- Please feel free to email any safety issues that come to mind to me. I am going to be handing off some of the day to day facilities issues to Regina. On that note, we will be sharing out a responsibilities list of admin and other support staff in the next week or so. I deliberately waited to do this
- Hall passes were put in other boxes today. Supplies needed for tomorrow's activities were also put in boxes today. Please check your boxes in the morning to ensure you have what you need (Identity Chart, blank paper, envelopes). Please note items needed for students for first day activities were only put in the boxes of teachers who will be doing the activities.
- We sent out a Messenger to families letting them know students only needed to bring a water bottle and something to write with. We know kids will bring more, but just letting you all know that went out.
- We will be handing out paper copies of schedules to students in the morning. I will be sending out an invite to staff who may be available to help with this endeavor. In the event a student has a schedule issue and is not on your class list please send them to the lobby. Be positive around this: "Oh no we made a mistake. We want to make sure we get that fixed. There are plenty of people here to help. Can you go to the lobby and check in?" We will have staff on hand to support. We ask that you take attendance for all classes so we can begin to get an idea of possible no shows etc.
- A few people asked about what to do in the unplanned time for the next few days. We hope you use this time to get to know your students. We are cognizant that this time can be a bit "funky". Please feel free to use it to go over your classroom expectations, your syllabus/note to parents, a course overview or anything else you feel is helpful. Our hope is we return Tuesday ready to leap into learning.
- There are some cold drinks in the staff lounge fridge. Hydrate and take care of yourselves.
