Morning Minute for August 25th
Whew. It was good to have you all back in the building today. I was able to make all but one of my scheduled check ins. As a reminder I will come to you for check ins! We did have some fun with a power outage around 3:40. Apparently it was not construction related, but a neighborhood outage. It came back on around 5:30.
- Tomorrow is half a work day and half a PD day. We will begin our staff PD @ 12:45 in the cafeteria. The building will be warm tomorrow so please be sure to drink plenty of water. Depending on how quickly we cover things we will provide you with more additional planning time. We will be covering more climate items, going over the first week's schedule and finally some required safety training.
- Lost items. As people came in today we became very aware of items that went missing over the summer. All items that were to remain at Harrison Park were moved into the gyms, or the cafeteria. That being said, movers came in last week and moved items to their marked locations. I was in the building to facilitate some of this and did let them know where to move the items/boxes of staff members who were switched to another location with the firewall shifts. We are seeing that errors were made. Today, people found things in their rooms that did not belong to them and were clearly marked. We will have a system in place for tracking lost and found items by mid-morning. I know this is highly frustrating. Please try to be patient. I am sure most things will be located.
- Along the same vein, some furniture was taken out of the building even if it was marked. For example older teachers desks. This was because people will be getting new desks. They had the movers here and wanted them to remove old furniture when they had the trucks and muscle. I am guessing this is one of the reasons they advised personal items be taken home for the summer.

- Reminder - check your mailboxes every day - Shannon put information regarding supplies and your emergency information into boxes today. Emergency forms are due Sept 1st.
- Name Badges - On the counter by mailboxes is a pile of name badges to use with students. Please make sure you have one before our scholars arrive next Tuesday.
- When should I wear my staff t-shirt? We are going to ask you to wear red or navy on Tuesday the 29th and your staff shirt on Wednesday the 30th. We also will ask you to wear red or navy on Thursday the 31st for our drone photo...of course you are welcome to wear your staff t-shirt every day, but that may be a bit funky.
- The building will be open until 7:00 tomorrow night for any of you who are wanting to stay. I would advise you to go home, but I know for some of you it feels better to knock things out and then head home so you can relax over the weekend. If you do stay be sure to shut up your windows and leave by 7:00. The custodians will do their rounds...you do not want to be in the building when the alarms are set. I am unsure of the contractor's schedule for tomorrow but imagine with the heat index they will finish up earlier than normal.
- I will be leaving the building by 5:15 tomorrow in order to prepare for my one and only Vintage Faire...it is going to be HOT. If you are still in the building feel free to kick me out. It is a longstanding 11 or 12 year tradition and comes at the absolute worst time, but alas I continue to make the commitment. I will most likely not check emails until Sunday. As Shannon says, the two weeks leading up to the first day for students is like wedding preparation and the wedding is the first week of school.
