Summer Forecast #1
Good afternoon. I hope you are relaxing somewhere with a view and good music. I debate sending info out over the summer at there are usually two camps of people: People who do not open email at all during the summer and don't even want to think about school until the last minute and those who like to know what is happening over the summer so it isn't a shock to their system in August. If you are choosing to read this on August 21st so be it. I plan to send out three updates this summer. This one was supposed to go out last Friday, but alas vacation put me a bit behind.
- Many of you may have received an email from Emily Moore announcing her departure. It has been a good run and I feel fortunate to have been able to serve with her for nearly five years (longer if you count our teaching days). Emily was able to keep me on track. I appreciated her organization, time management, expertise in curriculum and instruction and so much more. She was devoted to our staff and students and will be missed. I know she is excited to serve in the community she lives in and will be an asset to North Clackamas. Her official last day with us is July 20th.
- I am working with the district on fulling the vacant AP position. We completed a lot of hiring prior to July 1st, but still have a few positions to hire for. If you know of anyone looking for a .50 Learning Center position (SPED) or a SIS (Site Support Instructor aka Building Substitute) let me know. The SIS position was just given to us about a week ago and I am still learning more about what this position entails.
- I will save official welcomes until we are together in person. However, I will list those who are newly hired now in the event people want to reach out to them. We will send out a complete staff list in early August.
Lisandra Mesa-Falcon- STEAM/STEM
Allegra Rainbow- Science
Amanda Coggins- LA
Ciara Williams- Math
Michelle McMillian- Counselor
Bee Everton- Mandarin Immersion
Kojo Hakam-Mandarin Immersion
Karen Kempster- AVID/Math Intervention
Kelly Cahill- Reading Intervention
Kolby Jerrigan- .50 PE
Ngoc Do- ESL EA
- Please be aware Harrison Park Staff is to report back to work on August 22nd. The vast majority of the district returns on the 23rd, but as a new building we are being given an additional paid day to prepare. On that now I want to give everyone plenty of advance notice that we will be offsite on August 22nd and 23rd. Our PD will take place at McMenamins, Edgefield ( 2126 SW Halsey St, Troutdale, OR 97060). We tried to book at the Kennedy School but unfortunately they were already full. We will run from 8:30-4:00 both days. Breakfast will be provided and ample time will be given for lunch on your own.
- In an effort to give you plenty of time for this assignment please dig up a photo of yourself in 6th, 7th or 8th grade. We would like to use these for a display when we return in the fall. Also, please send me your go to song of the summer. This is due by August 20th.
- I have not been in the building since the 25th of June. I am planning on making a trip this week. I will say that upon leaving they had already done a lot. I will get a solid update on Wednesday of this week. One update I will share is that our new lockers will not be installed until October. We will be working through plans for students to carry their belongings with them for the first month or so of school. Ugh....
- I am working through a backlog of emails, documents, etc. to get caught up for the start of the school year. As we begin to finalize plans for the start of the school year we may reach out to people for support. We do have some funds available for extended hours for this type of work. No one should feel obligated to say yes to a request. Along the same lines, if teams would like to get together for planning, etc. prior to the 22nd of August let me know. While the pot of money is not endless, we do have some funds available for collaborative work.
- I am working through Thursday of this week and will be working the 25th & 26th of next week. I will be off again until the 3rd of August. I am back "for good" after that. I will have my work phone on intermittently on days I am not working. I tend to check emails once a day. If you don't have my cell number it is 503.545.9463. Feel free to call or text.
More than anything enjoy the beautiful weather we are having. Summer flies by way too fast. I really try to squeeze every ounce of it out. Happy Hours with friends, live music (I am headed to the Fairwell Festival with my son this weekend...wish me luck as it is my first music festival ever), pool time, beach sunsets and more. Please enjoy each day!
