Lunch Service- 3rd Grade/4th Grade DLI

Last week was a whirlwind and this week is shaping up to be the same. Looking at my calendar I have three night events and one for my personal child. As Shannon says, this time of year is like preparing for a wedding...it is a lot of work and then bam it is over.

I want to thank Cami, Joel, Dani, Eva and Mikailia and Shannon for their work on Madagascar. Countless hours were devoted to this first time event.  The excitement of students and families was palpable and they were able to provide a lasting memory for our community. I think everyone learned a lot in this process. I was especially humbled by the volunteer hours from many of our parents. We have a great community. Bravo team.

  • Your mantra of the week is: Purge
  • Please note that Lindsay Alex is out for the remainder of the year. She will be with both Clark and Harrison Park staff next fall. Please do not send students to her.
  • All after school programming has ended. Students should not be in the building after 3:30. If you have students remaining with you after school for any reason please let Naima know so we can field calls from parents. As a reminder the office closes at 4:00 daily.
  • This week PLC time was given for comments needing to be translated. Our translation team is is working to pack and close out their year s well as facilitate translations.  Please prioritize getting these done. Time was given for this purpose this week and only two staff members turned in translations.  The folders for these will close on Friday the 9th at 3:00pm. Also, use the translation folders for these comments. DO NOT send them directly to staff members. This helps with organization.

    * Chromebook Collection Plan Reminder

    • Monday June 5 - Grades 6-8 - Carts will be reissued to ELA, ELD, and Math
    • Wed June 7 & Thurs June 8 - Grades 3-5 - Classes will be scheduled for collection
    • Thursday June 8 - Grades K-2 - Bring carts to the tech room before school

  • During K-4 PLCs this week teachers will be working with Tara and Kara to split classes for next year. To ensure this process is as efficient as possible make sure your info is filled in and arrive to PLCs on time with Chromebooks ready to go.
  • We are holding a Spring Play Day on Wednesday from 12:30-3:00 for current 7th grade WEB leaders. WEB is a mentor program we are launching for next year. This event will be a time for our new leaders to begin creating relationships and learning for their work next fall. This event will be taking place in the second gym. Students who are involved will be excused from class. We will be notifying students who were chosen to be WEB leaders on Monday.  Please see Dan Carpenter with questions.
  • I had some memories last night of last year's last day of school. I remembered pukers. At least five of them. As you are planning end of year festivities, be mindful of the amount of food/sugar etc. being consumed. I am by no means saying don't bring in treats, but just want to avoid having kids gorging themselves to the point of puking ;-)
  • In preparation for our staff meeting on Tuesday I would like to ask everyone to be thinking about peers who have impacted you in a positive way this year. We will be celebrating our year together and highlighting those who have helped get us through.
  • Shannon has worked hard to let teachers know if they have a balance in their account. Please note the district wants these monies to be spent by the end of each year and not carried over. We are asking that all receipts for reimbursements etc. be turned in ASAP as we are working with the district move accounts over to Clark etc. Please turn in any extended hour as well. These are extended hours not related to the move. Procedures for that have shifted. See below.
  • We did add students to the list for Summer Acceleration. Thank you to those who made calls and personally invited families.
  • Field Day schedule will run K-5 during your regular specials time. You will not have specials on Friday. 6th grade will do their field day during 4th period, 7th grade will be during 5th period and 8th grade during 6th period. We may make a small shift for 7th and 8th grade. Also note afternoon recesses may be impacted. We will communicate out more by Wednesday.
MOVING INFO
  • I want to clarify and make sure everyone understands that everyone has to be packed up and out of their classrooms by the 16th. Movers are coming into the building on the 16th and will be here the 17th to move all classrooms. Construction and abatement begins on the 19th. This is a holiday and the building will be closed to PPS employees. Office staff will be in the building the 20th-23rd to wrap up things, but other staff are not to be in the building. No one will be able to access the building and badges will no longer work. Emily and I will be at a training the 18th-21st. I will be back in the building the 22nd and 23rd, but after that we will both be working remotely. Tara will also be working remotely as Clark is under construction as well. Bottom line is people have to be out of the building and packing etc. completed by the 16th @ 8:00.
  • There was a huge stack of boxes in the lobby Friday, but that evening they were gone. Please be sure that you are not taking large quantities of boxes at one time. I know it takes a lot of boxes to pack books etc. but several staff members (including myself) did not have any on Saturday to use. I will put another order for boxes in, but I hope we can all be mindful and avoid having stacks of 25 unused boxes in our rooms while others have not taken any.
  • I know the stress of packing is weighing on many. I am sitting in the office now and there are approximately 13 staff in the building packing away. Some staff may opt to stay late after school. If you chose this as an option please be sure to exit the building by 8:00. NO ONE SHOULD BE IN THE BUILDING AFTER 8:00. I say this for a few reasons. First, you have to work the next day and do need to go home and get some rest. Second, the custodians chain up the lots to ensure that people do not access them at night. On Friday we had at least one person in the dumpster at 9:00 at night and a staff member was locked in the lot. In the event the chains are drawn please get out and check. The custodians often pull the chain across to keep additional cars from coming in, but they are not actually locked. If this is the case put the chain down, pull out and then put it back up. Custodians secure the locks upon leaving.  We also had someone in the building until after 10:00 and an alarm was triggered. Badges do stop working during the evening and you will not be able to get back in. Just some more lessons we are learning!
  • The end of the year checkout document will be put in boxes at some point on Monday. Please be aware there are several links that are referenced on this paper copy. I will have a digital copy that goes at as well. We will be scheduling check out times for Friday the 16th. No one will be allowed to check out earlier than that as Emily, Tara and I have Leadership on the afternoon of the 15th.
  • I will be sending a document to teachers who are impacted by moves that just came out from the district in regards hours etc. Please note: Shannon will not be responsible for paying/entering these hours.
  • I am hoping to get a list of middle school students who can assist in moving/packing/purging etc. out before the end of the night. Hopefully this will be sent out on Monday.
