Nightly News for Thursday June 1st
Assembly Info
Tomorrow we will be providing an opportunity for classes to watch Madagascar. As with most assemblies, attendance is not mandatory, but we do encourage everyone to attend! Please be sure to review assembly expectations before you bring your class to the auditorium. Clapping is appropriate and cheering (at the end especially), but it will be important for everyone to be quiet during the performance and to be positive to our student performers. Please leave your classroom at the time below to avoid a hallway backlog and to allow us to get everyone seated accordingly. If your class WILL NOT be attending let me know. South entrance is closest to the cafeteria and the north closest to the gym.

- Please note if you have students who are in Madagascar they will be out for most, if not all of the day. Kelly has a list and will be marking them out on a school activity. If you are not sure if a student is on the Madagascar list please call Kelly or Naima to check.
- As a reminder today is the last day for reading w/ Michelle and Cheryl.
- Emily will be out of the building tomorrow morning at a training. Theresa will also be out at the same training.
- Over the last two days we have had two situations where an adult was on the playground during grade level recesses. Without fencing this happens. Please be sure to survey the surroundings when you take your classes out before you let them out ahead of you. In the event someone is on the school grounds please call the office or alert someone so we can either send Herk or others out for support. It is imperative we are actively supervising students on recess. I know it can feel like a time for us to take break and check in with the other adults who are out with us, but we need to make sure we are circulating and providing coverage throughout the entire playground. We have definitely seen an uptick in altercations etc. this past week. Here is some information from the National Playground Safety Association:
What is Active Supervision?
Active supervision requires focused attention and intentional observation of children at all times. Adults position themselves so that they can observe all of the children: watching, counting, and listening at all times. They also use their knowledge of each child’s development to anticipate what they will do, then get involved and redirect when necessary. Children should never be left unattended.
Set Up the Environment
Set up the outdoor play environment so that you can supervise children at all times. When activities, equipment, and open spaces are designed well, it is easier to supervise by sight and sound. Carefully plan where you will position yourself in the environment to prevent children from harm. Place yourself so you can see and hear the children.
Scan and Listen
Continuously scan the entire environment to know where everyone is and what they are doing. Specific sounds or the absence of sound may signify a reason for concern. By listening closely to children, you can immediately identify signs of potential danger.
- K-5 - Report Card - Comments that need to be translated outside our school need to be completed tomorrow, June 2nd, by 3:00. Access to that folder will close so Naima can process the comments and get them to the district.
- K-5 - Students of Concern - If you haven't already, make sure you have provided information for students identified in 1:1 Check in Meetings with Theresa.
- K-5 - Class Placement - Next week K-4 teams will meet during PLCs with Tara and Kara to create class lists for next year. Please ensure all information is filled out and ready to go. Because this takes quite a bit of time please show up to PLC on time with Chromebooks.
- Middle School - Schedule Change removing Flex begins Monday. This will be the schedule until the end of the year, except 6/12. Newcomers will still go to June and Natalia at 11:30. Please help them remember.
- Lindsay has curated a list of mental health services. I will attach it in the email as I can not figure out how to link it here.
- The custodians will be in the building to keep up on recycling on garbage on Saturday. The parking lots will be unchained and the building will be open by 10:30. I will be in at that time and should be around most of the day. I may leave for a few hours while Emily is here. I am going to send out an invite for Saturday just to get an idea of who is planning on coming. We will ask that you sign in so we can keep tabs on who is in and out of the building for security purposes. Please note I do not believe badges will work to get into the building so you will have to come through the front doors (I can buzz you in after 10:30).
