Nightly News for April 4th

  •  I want to give a huge appreciation to Emily during AP Appreciation Week. The enormity of  the work Harrison Park is taxing and her dedication to our students and staff is something I am grateful for.
  • As a reminder for all staff. Please be aware of leaving your personal valuables out. Wallets, purses, cell phones and other personal items of any value should be out of sight and locked up. Best practices would also be to ensure your phone is pass code protected and you have  a tracking feature (such as Find My Phone) on and enabled. Fortunately, I am not sending this out because items were actually stolen BUT we did have a student mess with an adult phone today. It was just a good time to bring this up. I have personally had my phone stolen two times in 25 years. Once here at HP. I was able to recoup said phone because of Find My Phone. In both cases I left it where students had access to it. Sadly students make poor decisions when the opportunity presents itself.
  • Tomorrow is a National School Shooting Walkout. I know this is something we all are very aware of and concerned about. It is something I think about daily. Please know we will support students who choose to participate in this activity. We have received a review of district protocols around walkouts, however have not heard from students about plans for participation. This is from the district information on walkouts:
Elementary and Middle School students will be asked to remain in the building.  Parents may choose to sign their students out and participate with them. If parents plan for an adult other than parent/guardian to check out their student, they will need to update their school ahead of time that another adult is authorized to pick up their student.

Teaching Staff will:

    • Continue with teaching lessons and daily activities.

      • Where appropriate and when connected to course content, teachers can facilitate lessons and discussions around the walkout topic.  These lessons should align with state and district standards at the appropriate grade level.  Appendix A has resources for lessons from previous student led protest.

    • As per district practice, take attendance at the beginning of each period. Communicate any known names of students who leave to the building principal.

    • Enter attendance code for civic engagement (CEG) for students with approved participation (permission slip from families and pre-arrangement).

    • Staff who are asked to accompany students can decline the request.

We will be keeping our eyes and ears open. Let us know if you hear or see anything of concern.

  • K-4 teachers who plan on attending tomorrow's dance dress rehearsal please make sure you let me know by tomorrow morning at 10:00 so we can plan seating accordingly. This is optional. I know there are time conflicts during this time, but this is the available time slot we had in order to ensure students were not missing numerous classes throughout the week.
  • PFSP I will be sharing more information about Monday (non student grading day) with you directly in the next day or so.
  • I have been reviewing PFSP schedules and doing some shifting to help with support. I will do my best to share out shifts with classroom teachers once I have reviewed schedules with the staff directly.
