Happy Lunar New Year! I talked with many students who were SOOO excited for their celebrations this weekend. I imagine attendance may be impacted a bit and/or we will have some tired students and staff. To the Year of the Rabbit!
I wanted to take a moment to mention that we have several staff members who have had their fair share of loss and life changing events in the past few months. As the building leader I have to ensure I am following privacy protocols around this information. I strive to respect people's wishes in terms of sharing information out. With that being said, please continue to check in with your colleagues and take care of each other. I know your support on one another makes a difference.
- Thank you to our DLI team for decorating the lobby for Lunar New Year. It was so exciting to walk into the building on Friday. Please remind students to appreciate with their eyes and not their hands.
- On Friday, David Daniels, renowned stop animation artist, visited our art classes. Dani and Brenda teamed together to make this happen for our students. I was able to join for a short time and WOW some of their questions were deep. It was exciting to see our students so enthralled in learning.
- Middle School team I will be sending info out about the 30th/31st later this evening or tomorrow morning. I want to get the Weekly out and will work more on this schedule/plan later today.
- All of our basketball teams won on Saturday. I heard there was a lot of growth from the first games. I made it to the 5th grade game and impressed by the sportsmanship and enthusiasm.
- We do have a staff meeting this week. We will start with PAT updates and admin will join at 3:45. Everyone needs to bring their devices as we will be giving time to work on the district's Student Success Survey after updates, etc. We are asking this task to be completed in the library.
- OBOB is gearing up. Valerie sent out emails to teachers this may impact directly.
- This Thursday Cami and Joel will be holding the second quarter student performances. The program begins at 6:00 and runs approximately an hour. All staff are welcome to attend!
- On that note, K-5 grade teachers you are invited to attend a dress rehearsal of the performances on Tuesday or Wednesday. K/1 your time slot is 12:15 on Tuesday and 2nd-5th yours is 1:40 on Wednesday. The dress rehearsals are one period in length (approximately 45 minutes). Attendance is optional. I trust you know your schedule for the week, classes capacity to attend, etc. Middle School we are discussing doing a performance on the 30th.
- Friday is a work day for all staff. The office staff has PD and will not be in the building. Please note this means the office many not be open at all (I will be in the building until 1:00 and then have to leave for a meeting). I still need to review PFSP schedules and will reach out to you all tomorrow or Tuesday. Please note administration was told all staff should be in the building on workdays unless they are attending trainings. I know many of you have grading to do and this can be done remotely (believe me my husband has been working on report cards every night for the last week in his chair). The expectation is grades are completed on time (as early as possible if translations are needed). On that note, as this is the halfway point of the year (wahoo) it is a good time to revamp rooms, do some organizing (I know my office desperately needs this and it can not happen during the course of the school day), and possibly begin boxing up things you won't be using for the remainder of the year. Basically, the ask is you use your time in the way you see fit. Please ask me if you have any questions or need clarification.
- From Mo Davis our PIL Athletic Coordinator. In case y'all were wanting to attend Middle School games, a majority of HP MSers are playing with McDaniel Cluster. I'll drop the link on this email and spreadsheet of McDaniel Youth Basketball Players and Wrestlers. All the teams have games on Saturdays. A majority of the Girls teams will be at McDaniel HS and a majority of the Boys games will be at Franklin HS. The break down of the majority of the regular season is Girls games are on Wednesday nights and Boys play on Thursdays. Wrestling meets are Monday afternoons, starting at 5pm.
