Nightly News for January 3rd

  • Interviews for the Clark Planning Principal will be held next Wednesday. At this time two candidates will be interviewed by a committee of  2-3 certified staff, 1 classified staff and 2-3 parent/community members. People interested will need to commit to working from 3:30-7:30, or after, next Wednesday the 11th. Those interested in interviewing should be staff members planning on making the move to Clark next year. Please let me know ASAP if you are interested.
  • Emily will be out of the building for the remainder of the week. Please send any emails/texts to me, or Dr.Carpenter in the event you need immediate assistance.
  • There will be no snacks tomorrow. They should resume on Thursday.
  • Sharing this on behalf of OTIS: As a part of the 2020 bond, OTIS is  upgrading all of the teacher workstation equipment on the tech bundles across the district. We will do this in conjunction with the bond modification project that is getting underway at the school.   Please communicate to the teachers that we will be upgrading their classroom technology equipment in the coming weeks. They will need to have all of their files saved to Google Drive as their old computers will be removed and e-wasted.    We will be upgrading the computer, monitor, keyboard and mouse in this first stage.  The whiteboards and projectors in the classrooms will be upgraded at a later date when the electrical contractors have completed that work at the previous phase schools.  As such, we will leave the existing projector on the tech bundle carts until that work is complete.  Please let me know if you or any staff have questions about this preliminary work or the project at large, and I will be happy to answer them and help them prepare for this upgrade.  We would like to begin upgrading this equipment in the second week of January if possible. Harrison Park teachers please note that our equipment arrived today and they may begin this work as early as TONIGHT. Please be aware.
  • Harrison Park does not currently have a Wellness policy for students. This is something many other schools have and we technically should do some work around building one at some point...this will be one of those "next year" things. That being said, candy and other sugary treats should be given out very sparingly. The exception is events such as our Winter Carnival, etc. It is okay to use a piece of candy as an incentive once in awhile, but not on a daily basis. I wanted to bring this up as we have had a few parents express their concern around kids coming home with sweet treats.
  • I will be attending an informational session on this in the next few days, but will share now: The Learning Acceleration team is excited to share that your building has been selected to participate in our High Dosage Tutoring program starting this Winter.

This model will utilize research-based strategies to support third, fourth, and fifth grade students who struggle with foundational reading skills, and at two of our high schools we will have a pilot program to support Algebra 1-2 students. Tutoring will take place after school beginning in late January, with licensed staff members from your buildings serving as tutors.

Please encourage staff members to take advantage of this opportunity to support your highest needs students while earning additional pay through extended hours. We can have as many as ten licensed staff at each of the sites serving as tutors, including teachers, interventionists, counselors, specialists, etc, so please share broadly with staff in your building to get folks excited about this opportunity!

Here are the next steps for implementation of High Dosage Tutoring at your school:

Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Happy new year!
