Nightly News for November 8th
- Just as a reminder we will have several K-8 principals and Karl Logan in the building tomorrow from 8:30-12:00. We will be using the conference room and visiting several classrooms. I will reach out to those teachers separately, but please note we may stop into other classrooms as well. Emily and I will be available for emergencies only during this time.
- Danelle will be out tomorrow.
- Bravo to our AVID students who lead tours for prospective students this evening. I was impressed with there professionalism and work. Thank you Ms.Brenner for ensuring the crew was ready to row.
- It is supposed to be cold this week. Please remind students to take coats etc. with them to recess.
- I am currently not highly mobile. I am making every effort to be here and available to respond to needs, etc. but will be reliant on others a bit more. Thank you for your patience.
- Rebecca from OSU Nutrition asked us to share this with you at today's staff meeting, but since we will be in cadres I am sharing it here:
Dear Harrison Park Staff,
You may be aware the PPS Health and Adapted/Physical Education team is in the process of adapting the elementary nutrition lessons to be more culturally responsive and trauma informed. The Portland SNAP-Ed Team is supporting this effort by developing three new culturally relevant nutrition education lessons.
We would like to share with you the first lesson, Respecting Indigenous Foods: Squash.
Special thanks to the Oregon Department of Education Tribal Liaisons who were consulted and approved each lesson.
Please consider making space in your classrooms this month and share this lesson with your students as we celebrate National Native American Heritage Month.
*Mark your calendars!!
Every Thursday in November, Nutrition Services is serving locally grown butternut squash for our students to try in the cafeteria. On November 17th, local butternut squash will be used to prepare Harissa Roasted Butternut Squash, a recipe created by Chef Nephi Craig, White Mountain Apache and Diné (Di Nay), for the Indigenous Peoples Workgroup. Everyone is encouraged to order school lunch on November 17th!
Thank you to all of our partners for your passion and support! Let’s all take a moment to collectively celebrate and honor the Indigenous communities of Oregon!
