I hope this weekend treated you well. I chose to wait until today to do the Weekly Forecast because technically the week starts tomorrow! The weather is looking to be hot again this week. I am keeping my fingers crossed for temps in the low 80s.

Tip- Make a few positive calls home this week. Those early calls go a long way later on!

  • We will continue to do the release announcements through Wednesday. Starting Thursday we will no longer make announcements and will rely on the bells.  We ask that you adhere to the schedule so we do not have all students out in the halls at one time. Those minutes in between make a big difference in dismissal.
  • Starting on Wednesday we will not longer expect teachers in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade to pick up their kids in the morning. We expect we may get the last of our students on Tuesday after Labor Day (when all the districts around us begin) and the idea is after Tuesday they should be able to manage making it to your classroom by themselves. 2nd and 3rd grade teachers we will discuss a gradual entry plan for your students soon. If you are utilizing Remind it may be a good idea to send this information out directly to your parents.
  • We will begin talking  about medical trainings soon. If you would like to see what your current standings are Kelly, our WONDERFUL, School Health Assistant will gladly let you know. Email her directly at: kforrest@mesd.k12.o
  • I had a facilities meeting on Wednesday and found out the new bike area will not be completed until December or January. They are waiting on the cover to arrive and of course there is a supply chain issue. They will be avoiding load construction during the school day which will also delay things a bit. We will continue with construction on the trash/recycling work that is going on in the back parking lot. This may be a bit noisy to the folks back there. Please contact me if it becomes untenable and I will relay this and work on a solution.

  • Malia Pousini will be back in the building this year starting September 15th. On that note, all of our community partners will be located in the large space outside of room 185/conference room. We will be working on getting the excess furniture out and cubicle spaces put together for them as they begin to come into the building.
  • Coach Schoene's K-5 classes will welcome Sharon Bird for the next few months. Coach Schoene will be in the building, but will be finishing up some practicum work. Ms.Bird, a retired PPS teacher, is looking forward to working with our students. Please welcome her.
  • We put this out during our PD days, but we have purchased a SMORES (online newsletter) account for all classroom staff to use. If you have questions on usage please ask Theresa.
  • Backpack supplies will be distributed starting tomorrow. We will let individual classrooms know. Process varies by grade level.
  • Our first staff meeting will be September 13th. This will be going over sub plans and Open House. Please remember work hours on Tuesday are 7:45-5:00 for PAT members. We do not have a staff meeting on September 6th.
  • After the first week hustle Emily and I will be getting into classrooms next week. The looks fors will be:

  • Standards Posted Yes/No

  • Learning Target Posted Yes/No

  • Essential Question Posted Yes/No

  • Schedule/Agenda Posted Yes/No

  • Educator indicator 1

We will be discussing this more at our September 20th staff meeting.
  • Dani Mitchell, our new middle school art teacher, officially begins tomorrow. Welcome Dani. Also welcome to our 504 EA, Jay Simpson. They make look familiar as they were with us last year in the SE Classroom.
  • Speaking of the SE Classroom, we would like to welcome our long term sub Lance. They will be with us Mondays through Fridays. We have identified another guest teacher who will be with us on Fridays.
  • We have two last positions to hire for, our counselor (who will be middle school facing) and our final SE Classroom Para. This hire will be done by the district. We are still looking for a counselor. We had identified a potential candidate, but they chose to take a position at another PPS school. I will be working to determine next steps. Stacey Freeman, will most likely be making her way to her new position at Sunset High School next week. She will be sorely missed, but a commute of five minutes has to be seized!
