Nightly News for August 29th

This is a late edition. I had hoped to send it out before I left today, but alas we had a late bus (it came at 4:30 and by that time we had already called the parents and all the kids had been picked up). I kept thinking my daughter's first soccer game would get cancelled because of the heat, but they played on. I made the decision to let work wait and head to her game. I made it for the last 15 minutes and it was HOT. I am not going to lie, I came home and jumped in the pool with my new bulldog shirt and all my clothes on...it felt fantastic. Today was a good day even with the heat. We had a few glitches here and there, but it was a solid first day because of our work together. Thank you!

  • Please be on the lookout for my walkie. I put it down somewhere after 4:00 today and can't find it.
  • The temperatures will be a bit lower tomorrow, but rooms will still be very warm. We will continue to check temperatures frequently and make shifts if necessary. Please be sure to take water breaks if needed and  call the office if you have specific needs. They will dispatch support or ensure I am communicated with. You can also text me directly at 503.545.9463. On the note of heat please know I am communicating with my supervisors about concerns. Karl was in at the end of the day and school board member, Julia Brim-Edwards also came by to check on things. By the way she was stoked to see several classrooms diligently writing at 3:05...way to go!
  • 1st-5th Specials begin tomorrow. Thank you to our ESL, Specials teachers, and all other staff who stepped in today to help make things run smoothly.
  • With the construction, heat and the hustle and bustle of the first day I have not been able to sit down with Rustin Marchello and a few others to go over the final information on structured recess. That is on my list for tomorrow. We will be providing a myriad of resources for you to utilize. I just wanted to communicate this out.
  • There have been a few questions about when devices will be delivered. Kenneth Hamilton will be bringing 3rd-5th grade teacher devices around to classrooms starting tomorrow. Please note these should absolutely not leave the building until the parent paperwork is signed and returned. Kenneth will also be bringing carts to students in K-2. Middle School your plan has already been communicated out.
  • Please be sure to utilize hall passes for students who are leaving the room. We will be working to unpack them and will distribute them as soon as possible. If you do not have blue passes for now you are welcome to use a your own.
  • Welcome to our new 2nd Grade EA, Moira Kosky. Moira will be in Ms.Novick's room and will hit the ground running tomorrow.
  • We know we had some spots with a few snafus for entrance, exit, lunch, recess, etc. We will be working out our kinks and fine tuning things over the next few days. I strongly encourage you to send input, insight, questions, etc. you may have to help us improve things in these areas. Also, if you have questions please make sure to ask. Feedback is needed to help us improve and Emily welcome it.
Alright. I left some notes on my desk in my dash to get to Delia's game. I am sure I am forgetting a few things tonight, but it will be there tomorrow. Goodnight. It is going to be a great year.
