Nightly News for May 12th
I heard it was "lively" today. I was in communication for most of the day and want to thank Tami, Emily and Herk specifically for their work on several difficult situations. I am sure many other people pitched in as well. It was difficult to say at Leadership, but I have several departments and people I needed to check in with in order to advocate for Harrison Park.
I want to thank everyone on staff who have stepped into unfilled sub positions over the last two weeks. We appreciate this. THANK YOU....I can't say that enough.
Tomorrow is Friday the 13th so a few reminders around school climate:
- There were several situations today, and yesterday, where staff went to get students involved in situations and they were not in their assigned class. If a student arrives in your class without a pass please send them back to the class they are supposed to be in. If you are not aware of where they are supposed to be call the office and let them know. Again, students need to be in their assigned classes.
- With the uptick in behaviors be sure you are remaining consistent in class routines and revisiting expectations often. It is easy to have "they should know this by now" run through our heads...they should, but remaining consistent to the end is imperative.
- There have been a several incidents lately when free time was written into sub plans and we have also had several behavioral incidents occur during free time. Our kids thrive when they are productive and learning and discipline decreases during these times. We need to utilize all of our teaching time as 10-15 minutes of free time a few times a week adds up quickly. If you need ideas for structured free time/reward time that supports learning please reach out to Emily or me.
- Thank you to those of you who have shared notifications to parents around movies you may using with your curriculum. If you are planning to show a movie for an upcoming unit please communicate as soon as possible.
- Please be sure to continue to document behaviors with referrals when appropriate. Interventions and other concerns should be updated in our MTSS/Kid Chat spreadsheet.
- I was able to dive into Middle School ELPA Scores today. WAY TO GO MIN and team!
- We had a positive COVID case in the building. This case was present for most of the week. Please be sure to send students to the health room if theya re coughing or showing other symptoms. As a reminder please do this as discreetly as possible.
