I was able to complete staffing on Friday and submitted at 3:00. I made attempts to reach out to anyone who will be impacted and will continue to email and touch base on assignments for next year. At this point if I have not talked to you then major changes are not in your horizon. I apologize for my lack of support this past week as we moved through this process. Between the SEGC work, facilities planning, staffing, evaluations there just isn't enough time in the day. I know you all feel the same way right now in your classrooms. Hopefully I will have more time to be present in classrooms and throughout the building in the next three weeks.
I truly appreciate the work many of you have been doing to help bring normalcy back to our student's lives. While Lunar New Year, Black History Month, Multicultural Night are not what they used to be, we are slowing working to bring these experiences and commemorations back. Our plates are all full and while it is hard to add more to them we keep adding what we can.
- Thank you Ms.Peacock for putting together some plans for Read Across America Week.
- Thank you to Pearson and the team for putting together our Black History Month Assembly video. From Mx.Pearson- Please look out for the Black History Month Assembly Video in the Weekly Forecast and in the Advisory Calendar. Please share the video with your class on Monday 2/28 - the last day of Black History Month! It's five minutes long and features students from every grade! Middle School teachers can share in their homeroom (linked in our advisory calendar) and elementary teachers can share wherever it fits best in your day. Thanks for everyone's help with coordinating the students involved especially our Leadership class!
- The district's FIT Assessment will be taking place on Tuesday. Emily has shared out a schedule to anyone this impacts. We will have district MTSS folks here from 8:00-3:50. They will be using the Conference Room as their home base for the day. Mr.Gilbert will be in the building to provide coverage for staff members who may be interviewed or asked to share feedback with the FIT team.
- From Sarah Medsker: Valerie and I decided to dress up as crayons for book character day next Friday, for Read Across America Week. Crayons are characters in the awesome children's book, "The Day the Crayons Quit" by Drew Daywalt. We were thinking about asking a few teachers to join in, but thought, why not ask everyone? No pressure at all, you do you if ya have another character in mind, but if you don't, this is a super easy costume. Here's an amazon link for t-shirt if you're interested (but there's plenty more out there) and an inspo pic (you don't have to wear a tutu lol)! Top it off with a party hat and call it a day! Just thought we'd throw it out there, if y'all wanna join the fun.
- Some of you may know Sarita Flores who worked at Harrison Park several years ago. She is currently in need of some practicum work and will be here tomorrow to assist and do a Job Shadow. Just wanted to be sure to communicate.
- The work of the SEGC continues. Several members of the coalition are asking to meet at least once more to iron out some boundaries. I believe this meeting will take place next Thursday the 10th.
- Tuesday we will be utilizing time for OSAS test training. Some information may have gone out on this (this is something I am not up to speed on) and more will be out before 3:30 tomorrow. We are going to begin planning OSAS testing sessions in earnest this week and will be looking for input and feedback from everyone.
- Speaking of our Tuesday PD, I hope those of you who are able will help support our 8th grade class and pick up lunch or dinner from Thai Fresh (8409 SE Division), https://thaifreshpdx.com/. A parent, Michelle Harada (Yemi and Lucia) spearheaded this. A percentage of profits from purchases this day will go to help support end of the year activities for our 8th graders.
