Cafeteria Service this week- DaRosa, Steeves, Holt-Seavy, Jarvis

I hope you are enjoying this weekend. I wanted to share that several district people were in the building this week and commented on our building and staff. "I have been in a lot of buildings lately and there is just a different vibe here. It seems like your staff is really holding things down." This was not directed at me, but rather everyone in our building. I want to make it clear they did not diminish the stress and loads you are carrying, but rather highlighted how graciously you are managing. I concur!

We still have our "normal" flareups and situations, but we are all improving in our ability to address needs and respond. Thank you.

  • I failed to welcome My Le this past week. My is joining our ESL team as a new Educational Assistant. We are excited to welcome her. She shadowed several members of the ESL team a few days this week and we will begin putting a schedule together for her.
  • Tom Vu officially stepped into his new role this week. We have a few spots open in his schedule. Please email me or Theresa if you have needs. With that being said, Tom is not available to provide assistance in the moment and will be supporting students/staff in specific classrooms and or duties.
  • Emily and I met with PAT on Friday. There have been some glitches with the referral system. If you write a stage 2 or 3 referral it needs to be directed directly to Emily, Tami or me. If a specific person is not chosen it may get "lost". I know it is an extra step, but it may be a good idea to follow up with that person and let them know you entered a state 2/3.  K-5 referrals should be directed to Tami. Middle school referrals should be directed to Emily and/or Tami.
  • PAT reps also brought up calls to DHS. In the event a staff member needs to make an emergency call to DHS please let me or Emily know and we will work to provide coverage for you to make the call. These calls would be things that came to your attention such as abuse taking place the day before, the day of, etc. WHEN IN DOUBT ASK the counselors, Lindsay Alex or administration. There are also calls that need to be made but not immediately. This may be a call you make upon arrival to work at 7:45 while you are planning/prepping. I generally address emails and work on other things while on hold. Again, if this is an issue for you please reach out so we can be thought partners. Finally, if you do make a call to DHS remember to log this with Stacey or Ana.
  • Kenneth Hamilton has been on a district project and his hours have been dictated by others. He is back on his regular schedule and will be at Harrison Park 7:00-4:00 Monday and Wednesdays. Please feel free to email him with tech needs.
  • Tuesday's staff meeting is largely district lead with many Job A Likes. Please be sure you are aware of where you are supposed to "be" on Tuesday. If you have any questions please let us know. I will try to put something out tomorrow night as well.
  • Next Friday the 17th, we will not be holding ESL, Reading groups, or K-5 Specials. Grade levels will be given a time to attend the festivities in the gym etc. Time slots are looking to be around 30-35 minutes. Classroom teachers can bring their students to the gym and get them settled and then may leave to have a break/prep. We will also be putting out a document to ensure we don't have colliding recesses etc. Lunches and lunch recesses will remain the same. 15 minute recesses may need to be altered. We are working on a coverage schedule for the day and will have it out by next Monday.
  • As you delve into Securly to guide and monitor Chromebook use in your classroom, please take a look at this resource that explains some of the key features of this tool.

  • Middle school teachers remember to sign up for the VILS Learning Experience 2 coming up this Tuesday. If you need help registering through VILS Academy, see Dave.

  • I am keeping a close eye on prep time and ensuring everyone is getting the 320 minutes a week. I know canceling next week's specials on Friday may be an issue if we have lack of coverage throughout the week. Generally, there is 410 minutes a week for K-5 teachers (55 minutes five days a week in the morning, 45 minutes three days a week during specials time) and 385-430 for middle school teachers depending on their PLC schedule for the week. If you fall under 320 minutes please let me know.
  • Harrison Park is holding a vaccination clinic on Wednesday from 3:30-7:00. We are trying to hold from 3:30-5:30 for HP students and families only, but OHSU (who is running the clinic) has a policy not to turn anyone away. The clinic is being advertised to provide vaccinations for kids, but adults are welcome as well. Additionally, they will be able to provide boosters but WE ARE NOT STATING THAT IN MESSAGING. The reason for this is simply because other clinics have found that when Boosters are being provided it takes away from students being the focus and getting their vaccines. Our goal with this clinic is to get our students vaccinated. I encourage you to push info out to your families in your communications. If you do please try to keep it centered around an opportunity for HP students to get vaccinated. Let me know if you have any questions.
  • Along the lines of the vaccination clinic Wednesday will be a bit nutty after school. We will be having families/people line up in main office area. Check in will take place in the lobby and vaccinations will take place in Emily's office, our symptom room, as well as a few other places down the hallway towards the cafeteria. The library and cafeteria will be used as well. I will message out directly to those people whose spaces will impacted. I just want to make sure you all have a heads up.
