Nightly News 12/9
- Installment #2 of "How to Make the Most of Your Winter Break" - Last night's advice was to get your personal stuff accomplished this weekend to take it off your plate for next week (and also sprinkle in some fun). Today's advice is to make a list tomorrow (or today if you are reading this on Friday) of all the things you need to accomplish next week at school. Do this during your planning time before you leave. LEAVE THE LIST AT SCHOOL. On my list I would put everything I know I need to get done so when I leave next Friday I won't continue to have those nagging thoughts in the shower, or in the middle of the night, during Winter Break about what I didn't get done. My list as an 8th grade LA teacher looked like this:
- Finish grading all late work
- Update student proficiency cards
- Organize desk
- Go through room and clean it up
- Have students clean out file folders
- Plan for the first week back
- Get the novels for next unit from book room
- Buy cereal for cereal party
- Have students label holiday cards (SHHHHH I totally had my students put my holiday cards together...they had finished all their work)
Next installment in the Weekly Forecast.
- Please see the attached download of some of the districts plans for the conversion to the middle school (this is in the email). This is a abbreviated/general list of the plans for the conversion. I have not heard anything about the how this will shift with the new timeline. I am sure will find out more in the coming weeks.
- A reminder that there are no reading groups tomorrow with our reading team. They will be using the day to progress monitor.
- When we met with your PAT reps last week they asked for some clarification around In School Suspension. Here is a copy of our protocols https://docs.google.com/document/d/1LFFzHJy_Tqu8nVNhEiGMPFzIDQ-Le4fSIHPCCnknn2U/edit?usp=sharing. Please let Emily, Tami or I know if you have any questions. Please note we are not able to share the "why" they are in your room for privacy reasons. I want to make it clear if we had any concerns about safety we would not be placing them in In School Suspension.
- As a reminder students should no longer be on the bleachers closest to the Big Playground. This structure is not safe. We have requested Portland Parks take care of this issue, but until it is remedied we do not want kids on them.
- 172 people were vaccinated yesterday. I do not have information on how many of our students etc. We could absolutely served more people, but it was a slow stream of people for the entire time. I found a high school classmate waiting in the recovery area. She went to middle school here and I was able to reconnect and take her on a tour. Crazy!
