Due

Emergency sub folders should have been checked by Leah, Emily or Theresa. We will continue to reach out to people if we have not received them.

Goal due dates were extended until November 5th, however because time was given during PLCs for this purpose we are strongly encouraging you to get them in ASAP. We will need to conference with those of you who are being evaluated this year and want to ensure we have time to complete this.

The mandatory training due date is at the end of this month. Staff was given half a day in August and a staff meeting to complete trainings. If you have not already done so please make this a priority.

Musings

This is the new format we will be using for The Nightly News and The Weekly Forecast. I will continue to send a link via email daily, but will place all the information here as well. The hope is this is more interactive and searchable. I know emails can be overwhelming.

Emily and I have both started work on evaluations and goal conferencing. This important work is something we both would like to focus on, however we know it also takes us offline. Please be aware that when we are in an observation we will not be available (unless of course it is a MAJOR emergency). We are excited to get into classrooms informally as well. I have made an effort to get into at least three classrooms a day for 14.5 minutes (notice under the 15 minutes....) and as we are all settling in this is getting to be a little more achievable. We see some great things happening out there!

Take a moment this week to jot down what is going well in your classroom and embrace that success. At the same time, make note of things you are finding yourself frustrated by or that you would like to change. Are there people in the building that can provide another set of eyes or help be a thought partner?  As I often tell kids, we don't expect perfect and we don't want things to feel overwhelming. What is one thing you can focus on adjusting? Who can support you in this work? Sometimes even the smallest shift has a big impact on your classroom.

Announcements

Electives and PLC K-5 Teachers-Please be sure you are prompt in picking students up from electives. With electives being back to back it causes difficulty in the transition if people are not on time. On days you have a PLC leave your class two minutes early to ensure your able to drop your class off right on time and get to your PLC...every minutes counts.

Conferences- Conferences will be virtual and staff can conduct conferences from home. Office staff met last Thursday to begin planning. We will begin to communicate out details. K-5 teachers will not do report cards for the first quarter, but will need to use the conference form. We will be checking with homeroom teachers to verify home language and the need for interpreters this week. We will be scheduling these conferences first to ensure we can get interpreters.

SUN- SUN begins tomorrow after school. SUN will run Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. We will have some community partners in the building on Wednesdays as well.

Snacks-There will be no snacks this week. The reasoning behind this (from what I understand) is labor shortage in Nutrition Services. Classroom teachers you are welcome to share out with your families if you would like to have students bring a snack from home. We have limited snacks in the office. We can not supply snacks for the entire school for this week, but if we have students who are absolutely in need we can provide some snacks for classroom teachers.

Lunch- We will be shifting to eating inside this week. We are able to have students eat indoors at six feet apart and the districts six week timeline has ended. We were told at Leadership on Thursday that buildings can move forward with plans that best fit their building's needs. We do not have a way to put up large tents in the courtyard (fire hazard) and can have students sit six feet apart in the cafeteria for the most part. Middle school is the exception and once again we will be making some shifts here. I will be sharing this out to families this week. If you parents share concerns around this feel free to refer them to me.

Visitors/Volunteers- The district has finally come up with some firmer guidelines in regards to people entering the building. Any visitors who come into the building for longer than 15 minutes must have proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test that was taken within the past 72 hours. What this means for us is if you are holding an IEP meeting, parent meeting, etc. those coming into the building for longer than 15 minutes have to show this proof.  This will be the case for speakers you are inviting into the classroom, contractors, etc. If you have questions about this please ask Emily or me.

Small Groups/Push In- The reading teachers and ESL will be in full swing! Classroom teachers please ensure that there is a designated space for those pushing into your room to work with small groups. To clarify, small group work can absolutely happen, but should be kept under 15 minutes to help with potential exposure. If you have questions about this reach out to Emily, Theresa or me.

PTA- The PTA is excited to get back in the building and support teachers in any way they can. I have met with them and they are aware of the requirements. If you would like a parent volunteer in your room please note that you will need to "sponsor" them and make sure they have written on your classroom tracking sheet. If parents/volunteers are coming into classrooms we are asking they remain in that location for the duration of their stay. For example, if you wanted a parent to make copies, or do other errands around the building, they could do that OR be in your room, but could not do both. While we are doing a great job of tracking and tracing adding an additional layer is not something we have the capacity for. If you have a need please feel free to reach out to the PTA @ teresahovis.hppta@gmail.com
